  • The Jaguar F-PACE has won yet another major award in 2017, having been crowned ‘Best SUV’ at the Fleet World Honours
  • Fleet World judges praised the F-PACE for its impressive all-round abilities as an engaging drivers’ car, a genuinely practical SUV and a very accomplished fleet proposition
  • The F-PACE has already picked up more than 30 global awards and is the fastest-selling Jaguar ever, with more than 50,000 sold globally since its April 2016 launch
  • Recently updated F-PACE boasts an even wider range of engines, including a new 20d 163PS variant boasting CO2 emissions as slow as 126g/km
The Jaguar F-PACE, the fastest-selling Jaguar ever, has been crowned Fleet World’s ‘Best SUV’ at the annual Fleet World Honours.
With an aluminium-intensive construction and ultra-efficient Ingenium engines, the F-PACE was not only praised for being great to drive, but also for its low cost of ownership figures and modern technology.
Steve Moody, Fleet World Publisher, said: “The long-awaited F-PACE offers an impressive all-round package, somehow managing to be both an engaging drivers’ car and a genuinely practical SUV.
Plentiful use of aluminium to save weight helps both agility and fuel consumption, there’s plenty of room and useful tech inside, and two and four-wheel-drive versions to suit drivers’ needs.”
The honour is the fourth major global award won by the F-PACE this year, and the 31st since it was introduced in 2016. Already in the F-PACE’s trophy cabinet is Auto Express’ Car of the Year title and Women’s World Car of the Year for 2016.

Jon Wackett, Fleet & Business General Manager, Jaguar Land Rover UK said: “We have been working extremely hard to introduce a range of Jaguar and Land Rover models that are not only very desirable but also make good financial case for the fleet market. Our lightweight, low-emissions models, including the F-PACE, have been hugely successful among fleet and business buyers, and we’re constantly updating the range to ensure we stay ahead of our rivals.”

The 18 Model Year Jaguar F-PACE features a new 163PS four-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel Ingenium variant with emissions as low as 126g/km†. The arrival of a manual RWD derivative delivers 380Nm of torque and impressive fuel economy of up to 59.2mpg (4.8l/100km)* making it the most efficient engine in the range. These credentials earn it the E-Performance badge, which is reserved for models that combine traditional Jaguar performance with the most affordable ownership costs and optimised efficiency.
In addition, the existing 180PS four-cylinder Ingenium diesel is available with an automatic RWD transmission for the first time as part of the 2018 Model Year enhancements, delivering CO2 emissions of 134g/km and combined fuel economy of 55.4mpg (5.1l/100km).

All Editions combine extended ranges of equipment with special design features, thus making their own individual mark.
The sports car and performance brand from Affalterbach is using three selected special models to reassert the standard it has set itself to offer customers maximum individuality and exclusivity. “2016 was the most successful year so far in our company history. We shall be using this momentum to fill even more customers with enthusiasm for Mercedes-AMG in our anniversary year, 2017.
We shall be supported in this by our new Editions, which we are presenting at the Geneva Motor Show. So we can now offer our customers an even wider choice of individual performance models,” explained Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
Exclusive equipment package: AMG GT C Roadster Edition 50
The new AMG GT C Roadster is, like the new AMG GT C, also available as an exclusively equipped Edition 50 special model in a limited quantity of 500 cars worldwide. It marks the landmark year of the company, which was founded in 1967 and celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2017.
At first glance the Edition 50 can be recognised by the two special paint finishes in designo graphite grey magno or designo cashmere white magno. Black chrome accents deliver a unique look.
They are applied to the side skirt trim, the front splitter, the trim strips in the air intakes of the Panamericana grille, the fins on the side air outlets in the front wings, the trim on the rear diffuser and the exhaust tailpipe trim elements.
The surface of the cross-spoke AMG forged wheels has been harmonised with the black chrome elements of the exterior.
The interior is marked by a contrast between black and silver. This colour scheme is followed not only by the trim in STYLE Exclusive nappa leather in silver pearl/black with grey diamond-patterned contrasting topstitching, but also by the black AMG Performance steering wheel in DINAMICA microfibre with grey contrasting topstitching, 12 o'clock mark in silver pearl, "Edition 50" lettering plus a note on the limitation.
To emphasise the sporty character, the Edition comes as standard with the AMG Interior Night package, which includes steering wheel spokes, shift paddles and door sill panels in black. The interplay between light and dark is further accentuated by silver seat belts and black chrome trim. The head restraint of the AMG Performance seat is embossed with "GT Edition 50".

C 63 Cabriolet Ocean Blue Edition (not available for UK market)
The Ocean Blue Edition for the C 63 Cabriolet and C 63 S Cabriolet is designed for a particularly design-oriented and fashion-conscious target group and limited to 150 units worldwide. The new colour deep ocean blue for the fabric acoustic soft top is exclusively earmarked for this new Edition. The exclusive colour shade is featured on numerous further details on the car, such as the trim strips on the front and rear apron, the surrounds on the hub caps, the contrasting topstitching in the crystal grey interior plus the analogue clock in an IWC design.
The paint finishes designo cashmere white magno and designo selenite grey magno are available for the exterior. The front apron in an A‑wing design, the exterior mirror housings, the side sill panels plus the spoiler lip are painted in the vehicle colour, underlining the elegant character of the Edition. The AMG forged wheels in a cross-spoke design in size 19 inches at the front/20 inches at the rear are painted in titanium grey.
In the interior, the light, crystal grey interior in nappa leather with lavish diamond quilting and deep ocean blue contrasting topstitching immediately catches the eye. It is combined with trim in matt silver glass fibre (high-gloss carbon fibre as a no-cost option) with the Edition badge in the centre console. The fine impression is reinforced by the steering wheel with its black rim, featuring a flattened bottom section, in nappa leather and silver-coloured buttons: it comes from the S 63 4MATIC Cabriolet.
As standard the seats are fitted with the AIRSCARF neck-level heating and climatised seats, ensuring optimum comfort in all weather conditions. Attention to detail is evident in the AMG badges in the backrests of the front seats and the embossed AMG emblems in the front head restraints.

C 43 4MATIC Coupé and Cabriolet Night Edition

On the Night Edition for the C 43 4MATIC Coupé and Cabriolet black details add fine flourishes. So for the first time the cabriolet too is available with black exterior details. The diamond radiator grille sports black dots. The trim strips on the front splitter, on the rear apron and the side skirts are also painted in black. The same applies to the spoiler lip on the boot lid and the tailpipe trim elements on the exhaust system.
The overall impression is influenced by the 19-inch multi-spoke light-alloy wheels, which are painted in matt black for the first time and feature high-sheen rims as a contrast.
The Edition theme continues in the interior. The rim of the Performance steering wheel, in nappa leather/DINAMICA microfibre, while its flattened bottom section is also in black, and a badge on the centre console flags up the Night Edition.

With its LED light signatures, unique interior stitching techniques, and the motorised watch by B.R.M placed on the dashboard, as featured on DS E-TENSE concept, DS 7 CROSSBACK represents the brand’s vision for the future. The SUV will be available with a plug-in hybrid petrol drivetrain with 300hp and 4WD, a new latest-generation Efficient Automatic Transmission with 8-speeds, a THP S&S 225hp engine and two electric motors.
An SUV with strong personality
“At all stages of the design process, the guiding aim for DS 7 CROSSBACK was to express refinement, excellence and the best know-how implemented to the highest standards. The result is there to see, with an ideally proportioned car brimming with personality. It’s a perfect alchemy of strength and style.”
Thierry Metroz, Director of Style, DS Automobiles
Charismatic, powerful and engaging, DS 7 CROSSBACK immediately reveals its unique personality and beautifully proportioned design.
The horizontal chrome DS WINGS on the front conveys a sense of prestige with their strong, balanced lines. The DS emblem, redesigned for this new era, takes up a prominent stance in the centre of the new diamond-effect grille, resembling a coat of arms. The bonnet features subtle ribbing in the centre and the bi-ton mirrors emphasize the length and solidity of DS 7 CROSSBACK.

The sharp edges of the front and rear wings sculpt the sides to enhance the muscular beauty of this SUV. The wraparound tailgate showcases an imposing rear design, and emphasises the distinctive rear lights, designed with illuminated scales, and featuring scrolling directional indicators. This remarkable SUV stands apart for its presence and an interior optimised for all occupants, conveying an immediate sense of sumptuous comfort and space.
DS 7 CROSSBACK is immediately recognisable, by day or by night, from the front and from the rear
DS has always placed particular emphasis on the light signature of its vehicles, and it continues to be a key feature of DS styling. Resembling faceted jewels, the LED modules of the DS ACTIVE LED VISION headlamps emit a purple light when DS 7 CROSSBACK is unlocked, before pivoting by 180°. The distinctive effect is visible by day or night, whether the vehicle is moving or stationary. The brand's instantly recognisable light signature is emphasised by the vertical beads of the daytime-running lights, combined with the scrolling indicators.  As for the rear, each light is a full LED made up of illuminated scales. The lighting designers used advanced laser engraving technology to design this unique signature, referred to as DS 3D REAR LIGHTS, and achieve exceptional precision.
Two wide screens for an innovative display
The ‘style’ aspect is also reflected in the interior, with two 12-inch screens positioned at the heart of the cabin. The first is an innovation in the world of SUVs: it works with the navigation system as well as managing the multimedia interface, MirrorScreen and DS CONNECT functions. The second is a personalisable screen dedicated to the digital instrument cluster.
French ‘savoir-faire’
"Each DS combines a wide and unique range of French craftsmanship techniques to reflect the individual expectations of each customer. Our talented designers, engineers and upholsterers, have applied their considerable expertise to the vehicle interior, using premium materials and implementing the meticulous approach of true craftsmanship." Thierry Metroz, Director of Style, DS Automobiles
Four inspirations for a bespoke interior
The chic, contemporary interior of DS 7 CROSSBACK, available with a choice of interior ambiences, reflects the brand’s concept of even more personalisation options. These ambience ‘Inspirations’ are named Bastille, Rivoli, and Opera, and Performance Line.
The elegance of premium materials
"Each material and each detail of DS 7 CROSSBACK was inspired by the world of Haute Couture whose rigour and sensuality is visible in the very smallest detail." Thierry Metroz, Director of Style, DS Automobiles
Reflecting the highest standards of craftsmanship, considerable thought went into every detail of the ‘Inspirations’ and the materials used, in terms of their selection (such as leather, wood or Alcantara®), and positioning inside the car. These ‘Inspirations’ encompass a wide area designed to meet high standards of quality, extending from the dashboard to the door panels and from the consoles to the seats. The steering wheel and roof grab handles, for example, can be fully upholstered in leather, as well as the centre console - a finish that is rarely seen for this category of car. Depending on the ‘Inspiration’ selected, even the control switch on the central screen can be specified in crystal.
Guided by exquisite attention to detail
DS 7 CROSSBACK naturally reflects the design trademarks featured on all DS Automobiles latest models. The watch strap design of the Nappa leather seats enhanced by 'pearl' stitching on the dashboard, door panels and console are discreet but visible enough symbols of brand identity. The toggle-switches on the chrome-finished central console feature a ‘Clous de Paris’ guilloche trim finish.
The origins of 'guillochage' and 'pearl stitching'
Reflecting the refinement of DS Automobiles, DS 7 CROSSBACK features one of the most attractive finishing techniques used in luxury watchmaking: guillochage. Dating back to the 16th century, this technique is still used today to enhance the dial, casing or movement of a watch.  The engraved motifs of intersecting or overlapping lines can be extremely varied. Guillochage demands artistic qualities as much as it does technical and mechanical skills. This exquisitely complex type of decorative feature is reserved for premium watches.
Of all the decorative motifs, 'Clous de Paris' is considered the most classic in its beauty, fine lines and balance. It was designed by Abraham-Louis Breguet, the French founder of the Breguet watchmaking company that introduced the technique in watchmaking in 1786. The motif features hollowed lines that intersect to form tiny pyramidal decoration features.
Pearl stitching is used to form a pearl-shaped pattern. This feature is inspired by an embroidery technique used in Haute Couture to produce highly sophisticated details. It was a natural choice for DS upholsterers to draw on the great French tradition to decorate stitched interiors, upholstered seats and make this stitching technique a distinctive and appealing brand design feature.
Time in motion
DS is continuing its partnership with B.R.M Chronographs, with an exclusive animated timepiece, the B.R.M R180. Centred on the dashboard, it leaves its setting and pivots 180o when DS 7 CROSSBACK is started.
DS 7 CROSSBACK: inspired by Divine DS and DS E-TENSE
“At DS, the advanced innovations seen on concept cars add life and bold spirit to our production vehicles." Thierry Metroz, Director of Style, DS Automobiles
The idea behind the 4 ‘Inspirations’ of DS 7 CROSSBACK was revealed in September 2014 on the Divine DS Concept car, a model with ‘Haute Couture’ personalisation. The DS E-TENSE Concept car, revealed in 2016, featured DS light signatures, with DS ACTIVE LED VISION at the front and scale-design lights at the rear, the guillochage and ‘Clous de Paris’ motif, the motorised watch by B.R.M and the cooperation with Focal®.
Technology for greater efficiency and driving comfort
“A plug-in hybrid petrol drivetrain with 300hp and 4WD, features the latest new-generation Efficient Automatic Transmission 8-speed (EAT8), THP 225 S&S petrol engine, two electric motors and, above all, endowed DS 7 CROSSBACK with the best innovative features and enhancements. This is a car in which power goes hand-in-hand with real performance, respects the environment and provides increased safety.” Eric Apode, VP, Products and Business Development
THE ULTIMATE IN DRIVING PLEASURE
A high-performance hybrid E-TENSE: 300bhp and 37miles range in zero emission mode
"Each DS model will be available in a high-performance hybrid version. And DS will be the first PSA Group brand to launch a petrol PHEV," said Eric Apode at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. This ambition becomes a reality with the 300hp, 4WD plug-in hybrid petrol drivetrain, available from spring 2019 on DS 7 CROSSBACK.
“For DS, hybrids are not only about performance and efficiency. They are also designed to optimise cabin space and boot capacity." adds Eric Apode, VP, Products and Business Development
This is certainly the case on DS 7 CROSSBACK, with its unique, ingenious architecture: the automatic electric gearbox is positioned in a transverse layout. The battery, which powers the rear axle, is of compact dimensions and placed under the cabin. This layout means that the floor is virtually flat in row 2: a key advantage in terms of space optimisation.
As a result, customers will enjoy exceptional dynamic performance on the open road and in the city, along with significant range: the SUV covers up to 37miles in zero emission mode, while maintaining generous interior space and a boot capacity that sets it apart from the competition.
E-TENSE, the hybrid powertrain by DS
DS 7 CROSSBACK features a plug-in hybrid petrol drivetrain comprising:
- A 200hp petrol engine
- two electric motors (with an output of 80kW / 109hp each),
- The new Efficient Automatic Transmission with 8-speeds (EAT8), positioned transversely across the front axle, between the 200hp petrol engine and one of the electric motors
- A lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 13kW/h and output of 90kW, positioned under the row 2 seat floor,
- A powered rear axle driven by a second electric motor delivering a remarkable level of performance and in so doing, providing a 4WD application and capability.
The additional energy supplied by the two electric motors (up to 80kW each and 90kW combined) to the petrol engine takes power available to 300hp.
This version has three possible operating modes: 100% electric, hybrid, or combined. The battery regenerates when the vehicle decelerates (throttle off or while braking).
In all-electric use, the 13kW/h battery delivers range of up to 37miles. This efficiency is helped by optimised aerodynamics.
In standard mode, charging takes 4½hours. In fast mode, it can take less than 2½hours, with a 6.6kW charger that plugs into a 32A socket.
Five powertrains with dynamic personalities
Alongside the E-TENSE hybrid, DS 7 CROSSBACK will ultimately be available with a choice of five powerful, highly-efficient, high-torque internal combustion engines compliant with the Euro 6.2 standard and will also premiere the new-generation Efficient Automatic Transmission with 8-speeds (EAT8): three petrol power units (THP 225 S&S EAT8, THP 180 S&S EAT8, PureTech (twice voted engine of the year in 2015 and 2016) 130 S&S 6-speed manual) and two Diesel units (BlueHDi 130 S&S - with a choice of 6-speed manual or EAT8 - and the BlueHDi 180 EAT8).
These engines endow DS 7 CROSSBACK with a broad-range of character and performance. The state-of-the-art technologies (injection pressure of 200bar for the THP engine, Stop&Start systems, etc.) keep CO2emissions on a par with the best-in-class.
The Efficient Automatic Transmission with 8-speeds (EAT8) is a world first on the DS 7 CROSSBACK SUV
The EAT8 is far more than just an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It both delivers fuel savings by keeping engine speeds as low as possible, and contributes to driving pleasure with its new quick gear-changing strategies, it is above all compatible with the autonomous driving functions on DS 7 CROSSBACK – with DS PARK ASSIST and DS CONNECTED PILOT.
In summary:
-       Fuel savings of 4% compared with the preceding 6-speed automatic gearbox, due to a new control strategy, a Stop&Start function activated at speeds of up to 2mph, and weight savings of around 2kg
-       Enhanced driving pleasure through quiet operation, smoother and more discreet gear changing with the 8 speeds, a new gearshift pattern, and features an uprated ECU
-       Access to the Advanced Traction Control (ATC) system for extra grip in low grip or mixed surface driving conditions
ON THE ROAD TO AUTONOMOUS DRIVING
"Our customers will appreciate the mix of advanced technology and design that is unique to DS Automobiles. The latest innovations available on DS 7 CROSSBACK give it technological edge. New driving aids further enhance safety and driving comfort, paving the way for the autonomous car." Eric Apode, DS VP Products and Business Development
DS CONNECTED PILOT: drive or be driven?
DS CONNECTED PILOT makes it possible to delegate driving and also to take back control at any time. Taking another step towards autonomous driving, this system is more than just a driving aid: DS CONNECTED PILOT provides maximum support at all times, taking over on the driver’s command.
This truly innovative system features Stop & Go Active Cruise Control, which adjusts vehicle speed accordingly to the car in front. This function acts on the steering to precisely position DS 7 CROSSBACK in its road lane, respecting the driver's choices and habits. Active at speeds of up to 112mph according to national speed limit legislation, it controls the vehicle's speed and course for the driver. Particularly useful in traffic jams or on the motorway, this function contributes to safety, efficiency and peace of mind at the wheel of the DS 7 CROSSBACK.
Staying on course
The on-board camera of DS CONNECTED PILOT recognises broken and unbroken road markings. While driving, it continuously analyses the image of the road ahead to understand the vehicle’s situation. If DS 7 CROSSBACK deviates from the road markings or accidentally crosses a white line, the system gently moves the wheel slightly in the opposite direction to keep it on course. If the driver wishes to maintain the vehicle's trajectory, they can cancel the corrective manoeuvre by keeping a grip on the steering wheel, particularly if or when taking action to avoid a potential collision. The corrective manoeuvre is also interrupted if the indicators are activated. This function is activated from 18mph and is then operational between 0 and 112mph. This ingenious system is also able to manage DS 7 CROSSBACK in traffic jams: the car restarts automatically without driver action. Driving comfort is maintained, without pointless stress or unnecessary action.
DS PARK PILOT: the option for easy parking
Taking the first step towards autonomous vehicles also means taking the first step towards automatic parking. To reflect this, DS 7 CROSSBACK is available as an option with an innovative driving aid, DS PARK PILOT. With this new technology, the car can park alone, in reverse or parallel to the kerb, without manual use of the steering wheel or pedals.
DS PARK PILOT is able to identify a parking space corresponding to the dimensions of DS 7 CROSSBACK simply by driving past spaces at a speed of up to 18mph. The driver then uses the touchscreen interface to indicate how they wish to park in reverse with a parallel or bay parking manoeuvre. The ultrasound sensors of DS PARK PILOT, built into the lower part of the bumpers at front and rear, control and steer the car automatically. To ensure safety, the driver can take back control of the vehicle at any time by releasing the button on the gearbox. All the driver needs to do is press the Park button and wait for DS 7 CROSSBACK to park itself.
Parking without effort
With this new parking aid, unlike other similar systems, the driver does not need to manage acceleration, braking or gear changes, when entering or leaving a parking space. With DS PARK PILOT, active at speeds of up to 3mph, DS 7 CROSSBACK is able to park seamlessly, in line with the vehicles around it.
DS SAFETY: vigilance at all moments
On long journeys, inattention on the part of the driver may be synonymous with danger. Driving – and being driven in – DS 7 CROSSBACK ensures peace-of-mind at all times, as drivers and passengers benefit from the best technologies for avoiding collision.
DS NIGHT VISION: visibility by night
DS NIGHT VISION optimises road visibility by night. The infrared camera in the front grille identifies objects, pedestrians and animals on the road at a distance of up to 100m. The digital instrument cluster shows the driver the area around the car (within the driver's line of vision), with a red line around any sources of potential danger. Forewarned, the driver can best react to the situation. DS 7 CROSSBACK is the first C-segment vehicle to include Night Vision, a function generally reserved for vehicles beyond the C-SUV Premium segment.
DS DRIVER ATTENTION MONITORING: preventing inattention
Lack of attention and drowsiness are the main causes of accidents on the motorway. The technology of DS 7 CROSSBACK identifies any reduction in driver alertness. Using an infrared camera above the steering wheel, DS DRIVER ATTENTION MONITORING monitors three signals: the eyes for signs of tiredness (blinking); the face and head movements for signs of distraction; and the course steered by the car in its road lane (deviations or steering movements by the driver).
As soon as DS DRIVER ATTENTION MONITORING identifies an anomaly with respect to any one of these three factors – non-linear or erratic movements, or rapid blinking of the eyes– it automatically activates a sound alert and visual warning on the central console, by day or by night.
DS ACTIVE LED VISION: see and be seen
In addition to the visual effect, the DS ACTIVE LED VISION system is highly efficient. At night, the beam adapts in width and range to the road conditions and vehicle speed. Six lighting modes are available: Parking, Town Beam, Country Beam, Motorway Beam, Adverse Beam and High Beam. By lighting up the road more effectively and over a greater distance, or more on the sides of the road, drivers and passengers alike benefit from greater levels of safety. Safety is also enhanced with the rear lights whose LEDs activate in an instant and benefit from a longer-projected lifespan for as long as that of the car.
DS LOUNGE: dynamic serenity
DS ACTIVE SCAN SUSPENSION: 21st century suspension by DS Automobiles
In 1955, the original DS inspired both with huge surprise and admiration, not only for its visionary and sculptural design, but also for its avant-garde technology. People still remember the hydropneumatics suspension, a system that set new standards in road-holding and comfort, unequalled by anything from the competition. A few decades later, inspired by this brand-defining innovation that has left a lasting mark in people's minds, the engineers and technicians of DS Automobiles have developed a camera-scanning active suspension system. DS ACTIVE SCAN SUSPENSION features the latest innovations in electronic technology. Identifying and anticipating the forthcoming surface undulations, be they any bumps and dips in the road, it continuously controls the damper actuation (shock absorbers) accordingly.
DS ACTIVE SCAN SUSPENSION: comfort at all times
The key idea behind DS ACTIVE SCAN SUSPENSION is to anticipate the road ahead. To this end, a camera – placed behind the windscreen and linked electronically to the front and rear axles – works with four attitude sensors and three accelerometers to analyse the changes in the road attitude and adapts the response of DS 7 CROSSBACK (with speed, steering wheel angle, brakes, etc.). The system transmits this data in real time to an ECU (Electronic Control Unit), which acts on each wheel independently. Depending on the information received, the ECU continuously adjusts the suspension, making it firmer or softer. It is a fine-tuned response that further enhances the driving comfort of this exceptional SUV.
FOCAL ELECTRA®: sound in its purest form
For DS 7 CROSSBACK, our technicians and engineers again joined forces with one of France's best acoustics specialists, FOCAL Electra® Hi-Fi system. Fourteen Focal® Electra loudspeakers have been positioned at precise points around the cabin to delight the most demanding music lovers. Above all, customers will be able to take pride in the prestigious Electra brand label, a first for an in-car audio system. The pleasure of the high-quality of music sound is another appealing aspect of DS 7 CROSSBACK.
A unique audio solution complying with criteria set by DS Automobiles
Beyond the choice of layout, the engineers at DS Automobiles and Focal® adapted the entire architecture and structure to the requirements of high-quality acoustics. Through the sound treatment and the use of rear channels, the sound stage is stable and precise for each person on board DS 7 CROSSBACK, bringing occupants an immersive sound experience.
DS 7 CROSSBACK is the all-new SUV created and designed in Paris by DS Automobiles. It is assembled at the Mulhouse plant facility in France, and at the Shenzhen plant in China.
The brand’s new flagship, DS 7 CROSSBACK possesses an assertive character, with a unique personality. Designed to reflect the owners’ preferences and personality, and infused with classic French ‘art de vivre’. The finish and detailing, worthy of that of a master watchmaker, further boosts the excellence of DS Automobiles know-how and enhances even further the brand’s iconic designs. The car’s technological innovations and avant-garde technical designs bring motorists an unprecedented level of luxury, comfort, efficiency and serenity.
DS 7 CROSSBACK is a concentration of the excellence in the DS brand.
Appendix: DS 7 CROSSBACK is packed with innovative technologies
DS 7 CROSSBACK features a wide range of automotive firsts. In summary:
  • In addition to its high-performance engines, DS 7 CROSSBACK is the first DS SUV to feature a 300hp, 4WD plug-in hybrid ‘E-Tense’ petrol drivetrain, with a range of 37miles in zero emission mode
  • Taking the first step towards autonomous vehicles, innovative technologies increase safety, comfort and peace of mind for both the driver and passengers
DS CONNECTED PILOT on the road to autonomous driving
DS PARK PILOT automates the parking function for automatic parking
  • Increased vigilance at all moments
DS NIGHT VISION making the road easier to see over a distance of up to 100m
DS DRIVER ATTENTION ASSIST to identify signs of inattention and fatigue
  • DS 7 CROSSBACK features modern DS ACTIVE SCAN SUSPENSION. This active system uses a camera to identify and anticipate any bumps and dips in the road for continuous control of the shock absorbers
  • Faithful to the DNA of DS Automobiles design, DS 7 CROSSBACK is available with personalised interior ambiences (cloth, leather, Alcantara® etc.), inspired by Paris, and referred to as ‘Inspirations’
  • The DS ACTIVE LED VISION system is not only visually pleasant. It gives drivers the privilege of being "welcomed" by their car and lets them drive safely by day or by night with the aid of the LED headlamps
  • The contemporary, modern interior features two 12-inch screens for the navigation system, multimedia interface, DS connectivity and digital instrument cluster. Finally, 14 FOCAL Electra® Hi-Fi system speakers are positioned around the cabin to deliver a perfect sound.
Appendix: DS ACTIVE LED VISION
Unveiled on DS E-TENSE, the DS ACTIVE LED VISION lights are in equal measure beautiful and of high-performance. Driving at night, the beams adapt in width and range to the road conditions and vehicle speed. The new headlamps are an excellent illustration of refinement and technology.
As its name suggests, the DS ACTIVE LED VISION system is made up of a main LED lamp and three rotating LED modules, which can swivel from left to right or right to left – and also be articulated to move up and down – depending on the steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. The projected range of the lamps is increased or decreased, while the beam is broadened or better directed to cast more or less light on the sides of the road, as deemed.
Six lighting modes are available on DS 7 CROSSBACK:
  • Parking
  • Town Beam - when the car has been in motion for over five seconds. The width of the beam is increased so that the driver can better detect any potential dangers on the sides of the road
  • Country Beam - when the vehicle has been driven in excess of 30mph for five seconds. This mode directs the field of vision frontwards (more adapted to country roads) but keeps the beam sufficiently broad so as to light up the sides of the road to detect any potential dangers
  • Motorway Beam - when the vehicle has been driven in excess of 70mph for five seconds. The intensity of the LED modules is increased. The lamp and the modules are raised slightly to increase the range of the projected lighting
  • Adverse Weather - when the windscreen wipers are activated. The beam is widened and the power of the modules increased so that the driver can better distinguish white road lines, while the intensity of the main headlamp is also reduced so to improve the driver’s vision
  • High Beam - activated when switching automatically between high and low beam. The power and range of the lighting are set to maximum to best illuminate the road, both in distance illuminated reach and width
This function (with six lighting modes) is activated only if the lighting is in automatic setting.
Appendix: DS features in more detail
DS LOUNGE experience begins with DS ACTIVE SCAN SUSPENSION and with the FOCAL Electra® Hi-Fi system audio solution. In addition to this key elements, the DS 7 CROSSBACK project team – designers, engineers, master upholsterers and body specialists – paid particular attention to develop this car, in order to create a new automotive experience.
New design for an all-new experience
The body construction of DS 7 CROSSBACK is special, being ‘bond welded’. The metal panels are assembled by welds and carefully-placed glue beads. Combining these two techniques maximises resistance to crash impact, makes the body more rigid, and contributes to a more precise road feel (providing drivers with the feeling of a rock-solid vehicle structure, with minimal spurious noise transmission and reduced road noise). This enhanced road feel stems from specifying two types of axle: a widened, conventional front axle and a multi-arm rear axle.
Dynamic comfort: from the seats to the tyres
Although the powertrains and suspension are fundamental, well-being starts when you take your seat in this SUV. The design teams selected high-density foam to develop seats combining absolute comfort with long-term resilience. Technology plays an important role here, with heating, massage and ventilation functions all being incorporated in the front seats. Front and rear electric adjustment systems precisely configure the seating positions, aimed at meeting the expectations of the most demanding customers. For a safe and comfortable drive, DS 7 CROSSBACK is equipped with Michelin tyres with four size choices - from 17” to 20”.
A spacious interior
Through its exterior dimensions and the studies conducted by expert engineers, DS 7 CROSSBACK takes comfort and spaciousness to new heights for driver and passengers alike. This is particularly true at the rear, where the interior delivers a consistent level of postural comfort worthy of the very best executive saloons.
Stylish, carefully designed lighting
More than just a car, DS 7 CROSSBACK reflects the personal world of its owner, with personalisation offers such as DS SENSORIAL DRIVE. The ‘PolyAmbiant’ lighting, diffused by cascaded lighting across the front door panels, reflects the meticulous approach to design. The light ambiences comprise a wide choice of nine colours, including the brand-specific Carmine Red welcome for when the driver enters the car. The mood ranges from a dynamic feel to a lively daytime ambience and a sensation of well-being while driving by night.
Attention to detail
This emphasis on detail and elegance is visible in the design language used in the cabin. The buttons, air vents and logo on the user interface echo the geometry of the DS brand logo. The interior LED lighting with touch controls, along with the frameless interior rear-view mirror, also demonstrate the extent to which DS has paid exquisite attention to each detail.
Dimensions
Length: 4.57m
Height: 1.62m
Width: 1.89m
Boot: 555 dm3 / 628 litres
Mulhouse Plant
To build the SUV, heralding a new era for DS Automobiles and offering a new automotive experience, the DS project team paid particular attention to how this car would be assembled.
A new production system: kitting
A new assembly system called ‘kitting’ has been put in place at the Mulhouse plant in France. From the first stage of assembly, DS 7 CROSSBACK arrives with all the components (fixtures, equipment etc.) corresponding to the customer's specific order. This approach is more efficient as it simplifies and improves supply flows, particularly intermediate stocks: attention is focused solely on the quality of the work with emphasis on the specific and different operations to be carried out.

  • Exceptional stopping power, braking from 200km/h (124mph) to standstill in 4.6 seconds
  • Second-generation McLaren Super Series will offer a blend of extreme performance and driving sophistication unmatched in the supercar segment
The second-generation McLaren Super Series, which will be unveiled on March 7 at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show, is set to redefine expectations of supercar capability with phenomenal stopping performance to equal its extreme acceleration.

Reaching 200km/h (124mph) in 7.8 seconds, McLaren’s new supercar can then brake to a standstill in just 4.6 seconds and 117 metres – six metres less than the 650S and almost on par with the legendary McLaren P1TM *.
“As well as delivering the outstanding driver involvement and enjoyment for which the brand is renowned, McLaren’s new supercar will also excel in everyday driving,” explained McLaren Automotive Chief Test Driver, Chris Goodwin.

“The extreme performance and dynamic prowess of the second-generation Super Series, honed by testing at the limits and beyond, provides the perfect foundation for it to be the most complete supercar across the full range of use.” McLaren has released a short film showing the car during dynamic testing, driven by Chris Goodwin.

The exceptional braking capabilities of the second-generation Super Series were perfected during the most rigorous development programme of dynamic technologies ever undertaken by McLaren Automotive. Lighter, stiffer brake calipers, carbon-ceramic discs as standard and optimised brake pedal feel and modulation at the limit are key elements in delivering the incredible stopping power, with tyre performance also critical.

Working in close co-operation with Pirelli, McLaren engineers developed a new, bespoke Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyre for the second-generation Super Series that supports a six per cent improvement in mechanical grip compared to the McLaren 650S. The Corsa tyre is one of a range of Pirelli tyres developed specifically for McLaren’s new supercar, all of which provide superb driver feedback as well as ensuring extreme levels of grip and braking performance.
Further details of the second-generation McLaren Super Series will be confirmed on March 7, when a full range of images will also be available.

  • Silverstone Auctions achieves a 76 per cent sales rate and total sales of £5.7million in three days of auctions at Race Retro.
  • The results were the highest ever at Race Retro.
  • More than 130 classic and competition cars went under the hammer over three days between the 24th and 26th February.
Joined by hundreds of historic motorsport and classic car enthusiasts over three days at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire, Silverstone Auctions achieved a sales rate of 76 per cent and total sales of £5.7million at Race Retro, over £1million more than last year’s sale and its highest ever result at the show.
Headlining the results was a 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GT, which sold for an amazing £439,875, nearly £140,000 over its lower estimate.

The beautifully presented car, with the rare factory fitted flared wheel arches, was subject to a long bidding war between a buyer in the room and another on the phone, with the phone bidder eventually winning out.
From the same private owner, who was delighted after the sale, came an equally impressive 1998 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta with an incredibly low mileage of just 7,017 miles from new. The car sold for £136,125, more than £50,000 over its lower estimate. Another special supercar, more than living up to its pre-sale hype, the 2005 Ford GT, formerly owned by Jenson Button, sold for £264,375.
Jaguar collectors were clearly impressed by the fully restored, matching numbers 1960 Jaguar XK150 3.8 SE Drophead Coupé. A long bidding war led to the car selling for £132,750, more than double its lower estimate. Another bidding war led to the stunning 1953 Alfa Romeo 1900 Barchetta Modificato selling to a buyer in the room for £94,500, nearly £30,000 over its lower estimate.
A definite speciality for Silverstone Auctions, all 12 Porsches offered in the classic car auction were sold, headlined by a 1980 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo, which sold for £109,125. Continuing to prove in demand, six fast Fords were sold, with a 2010 Ford Focus RS with just 1,800 miles selling for £41,063, more than £9,000 over lower estimate.
Speaking after the sale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, Nick Whale, said: “Wow, what a fantastic set of results for our vendors. I’m delighted that once again our winning combination of sensible estimates and reserves, presentation, pre-sale marketing and auction atmosphere has paid dividends.
This was certainly our best ever Race Retro catalogue and buyers clearly agreed, so it’s wonderful to see so many going home incredibly happy with their purchases.”
Beginning the weekend by selling 27 competition cars, Silverstone Auctions sold a 1961 Emeryson Formula 1 Climax FPF (FIA), the last surviving example of just four ever made, for £174,380. Immortalised as part of the BBC’s '100 Greatest Sporting Moments', and another highly regarded race car in motorsport history, the 1968 Chevrolet Camaro prepared by Bill Shaw Racing sold for £65,250.
Silverstone Auctions’ May Sale takes place on Saturday 13th May back at its spiritual home of Silverstone circuit. Entries are now invited into the auction and potential sellers are invited to speak with Silverstone Auctions as soon as possible.
Nick added: “This has been a great start to the auction season and we now look forward to our next sale and speaking with prospective sellers soon.”

  • Insignia Grand Sport, Sports Tourer and Crossland X in treble debut
  • Vauxhall/Opel press conference on 7th March at 10:00 (11:00 CET)
  • OnStar personal assistant with hotel room booking and parking spot search
  • New Vauxhall Exclusive programme gives customers an unlimited choice of colours
  • Five-star year: Vauxhall production offensive with five new models this year in full flow
Vauxhall will reveal three all-new models at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show (7th–19th March 2017) including the Insignia Grand Sport, Insignia Sports Tourer and Crossland X.
All three models will be seen in public for the first time during Vauxhall/Opel’s press conference on Tuesday 7thMarch at 10:00 (11:00 CET) in Hall 2 of Palexpo (stand number 2231). And if that wasn’t enough, Vauxhall will also reveal two new OnStar services and the new Exclusive program at Geneva.

Insignia
Following on from the previous generation, which won the European Car of the Year in 2009, and sold over 25,000 in the UK last year, the Insignia is based on completely a new vehicle architecture. Its revised proportions result in a more spacious interior, giving the car a more athletic appearance and an improved road stance.
There is a raft of top technologies that make driving the Insignia safer, more relaxing and more comfortable than before. Next-generation IntelliLux LED matrix lighting, Lane Keep Assist, Head-up Display and unique AGR-certified premium seats, front- and rear-seat heating and a heated wind screen are just some examples.
Outstanding infotainment and connectivity are also on board thanks to the latest generation IntelliLink systems and Vauxhall OnStar, which with the launch of the Insignia Grand Sport, will offer even more functionality for customers. New OnStar features allow occupants to book hotel rooms and search for suitable parking spots via an OnStar Advisor.
Crossland X
Crisp and compact on the outside, spacious and flexible on the inside, with unique two-tone paintwork and SUV-styling, Vauxhall’s all-new Crossland X makes its debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
While the Crossland X’s recently-launched sibling, the Mokka X, has all-wheel-drive capability, is 70mm higher and has larger wheels for buyers with a taste for adventure, the Crossland X has a firm family focus, with a Tardis-like cabin providing high degrees of practicality and flexibility.
And at just 4.21 metres in length the Crossland X is more compact than the Mokka X, and a full 16cm shorter than the Astra Hatch, offering owners greater convenience while driving and manoeuvring in towns and cities. Adding to Crossland X’s urban appeal is an elevated seating position and an overall height, which is raised ten centimetres above the Astra’s.
Exceptional driver and passenger comfort has been an obvious priority for a car entering this class. The Crossland X has specially designed AGR-certified seats for the driver and front passenger, while rear passengers can adjust their seating position to increase leg room.
Additional innovations in the Crossland X make driving safer and more comfortable, and include a 180-degree panoramic rear-view camera, advanced park assist, forward collision alert with pedestrian detection and autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, speed sign recognition and side blind-spot alert, among others.
Vauxhall Exclusive
Taking personalisation to the next level, Vauxhall Exclusive allows customers to select their car in the colour of their choice, using any colour they like. As well as choosing the colour, it also allows customers to decide on one of three distinctive paint finishes: tri-coat, metallic paint and pearl. In addition, Vauxhall Exclusive will offer further personalisation including leather options, a selection of wheels and decorative design elements solely-reserved for Exclusive customers.
Five-Star Year
Vauxhall is set for a ground-breaking 2017, with a total of five major product launches that will add further variety to its range – already one of the largest in the UK – while at the same time entering new market segments.
Crucially, as well as the introduction of range-building derivatives, Vauxhall will bolster its credentials by offering a compelling alternative to ‘premium’ models in the D-sector with the all new Insignia Grand Sport, Sports Tourer and Country Tourer, while also growing volume still further in the SUV/crossover class with the Crossland X and the Grandland X.

GENEVA - SEAT to launch the new Ibiza as well as a couple of sporty Leon Cupra's

  • All-New SEAT Ibiza will make its world debut at Geneva Motor Show 2017
  • The fifth-generation of SEAT’s historic best-seller kick starts a very special year for SEAT. Sales already up by 16.5% in January
  • Sharing stage limelight is New Leon CUPRA 300, plus, its endurance racing brother, CUPRA Evo 17 with 350PS
  • Instead of traditional Press conference, SEAT will be hosting media using a more  accessible Press Talk format
The Geneva Motor Show is always a great occasion for the car industry, and this year’s will be a very special one for SEAT.
Because above all, the fifth-generation of the All-New SEAT Ibiza, the Spanish brand’s historic best-seller,with more than 5.4 million units sold, will be making its world debut.
“SEAT is in a phase of consolidation and growth and we are working to become one of the most dynamic organisations in our industry” says Luca de Meo, Chairman of the Executive Committee of SEAT S.A.,“The new SEAT Ibiza will make a great leap forward for the brand and it is set to be a turning point in the segment”.
SEAT is now midway through its largest ever product offensive.  At the beginning, came the launch of the brand’s first SUV, Ateca, followed recently by the New Leon.
Now it’s the eye-catching Ibiza’s turn, completing the reinforcement of the three main SEAT brand pillars.
New models are still yet to come, including the compact crossover, Arona. The launch of the All-New Ibiza opens a very special year for SEAT, in commercial terms as well. The company has entered its fifth consecutive year of increased sales after posting 16.5% growth in January.
By the end of the year, each of the new products will give the brand substantial coverage increases across European markets. In addition, the brand is looking to conquest new customers through a wider offering, such as XCELLENCE, an alternative to the current sport-oriented FR. This trim level has been created to reach those looking for a sophisticated and distinctive design, combined with convenient and intelligent technology.

A decisive model

The fifth generation of the SEAT Ibiza has been developed in Barcelona and is a decisive step forward in the future of SEAT.  Firstly, because it demonstrates the Volkswagen Group’s latest technology, the MQB-A0 platform (Modular Quer Baukasten) which shows the importance of the SEAT brand within the Volkswagen Group, as this platform application is the first in the supermini segment. And secondly, because it benefits from the most advanced technology, a notable increase in interior space, plus, a rewarding driving experience. This has led to the creation of a completely new model while, retaining Ibiza’s young spirit, dynamism, functionality and comfort. To achieve this, it gets a new, fresh, sporty and striking design, reflecting the unmistakable SEAT DNA. The surfaces have been accentuated even more in a way that gives a more sculptured, exciting and aerodynamic look.

“The new SEAT Ibiza embraces SEAT’s design DNA and ensures fantastic driving performance”, says Dr. Matthias Rabe, Vice-President of SEAT for Research and Development; “with the new modular MQB-A0 platform the SEAT Ibiza rises to technologies from higher segments and in terms of comfort, it improves its interior roominess and variability markedly.”
The All-New Ibiza is undoubtedly widening SEAT’s customer base, as well as improving the image of the brand, by combining elegance and style with dynamic character. It is also even more aspirational thanks to the aforementioned qualities, complete with a rounded, powerful design that ensures the car sits perfectly on the road.
One of All-New SEAT Ibiza’s key ingredients is that it establishes the Spanish brand as one that is looking to the future. Principally through practicality, intelligent technology and connectivity. The All-New Ibiza can be specified with driving assistance systems already seen in the Leon and Ateca, yet not commonplace in its class (Front Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control ACC, among others) as well as coming with a wireless charger and GSM signal amplifier.
In addition, the new SEAT Ibiza is 100% connected thanks to three options: Apple Car Play, Android Auto and Mirror Link. This certainly shows SEAT’s ambition to become a leader in in-car connectivity and in the development of new mobility solutions. All of this technology can be enjoyed for the first time through the integrated eight-inch touchscreen.
The car also features Beats sound-system:  the brand that with its premium sound entertainment brings energy, emotion and excitement to music lovers, changing the way that they listen to music. It uses a digital signal processor (DSP), six premium speakers, one high-end subwoofer and 300W amplifier.
In summary, the All-New SEAT Ibiza offers quality usually found in higher segments and is aimed at customers who not only know what they want and live with a young and dynamic spirit; but, also at those seeking a more sophisticated touch, with the latest and most advanced technology at their fingertips, for finding simple solutions in their daily lives.
The Leon CUPRA 300; the most powerful SEAT road car ever
The fastest street legal car that the Spanish brand has ever produced, the new SEAT Leon CUPRA 300, will be displayed in Geneva too. Although everyone will be talking about its 300PS engine with 380 Nm of maximum torque, the headline news is the Leon CUPRA coming equipped with 4Drive on the ST (Sports Tourer). Combined with the double-clutch DSG-auto gearbox, it dispatches 0-62 mph in just 4.9 seconds.

The latest and most powerful member of the CUPRA family provides intensity and performance. It also comes packed with the safety and connectivity that the rest of the Leon range boasts. Crucially, the brand flagship also offers variety, with a bodystyle to suit every need, from the three-door SC (Sports Coupé), to five-door and ST (Sports Tourer). A CUPRA always has to combine a great balance of passion and daily use, and as such, a solid combination of sporty design, cutting-edge technology, comfort and outstanding dynamic behaviour has been achieved like never before.
Joining its roadcar brother will be the spectacular SEAT Leon CUPRA Evo 17. Resplendent in grey matt paint, with carbon fibre interior elements and aesthetic details in copper inside and out, it is the competition version destined to be fielded in the TCR International Series. Available in two versions - one with DSG-auto and the other a manual sequential gearbox - the Leon CUPRA Evo 17comes with the same engine as the street version, but, with an uprated engine putting out 350PS (20 more than the 2016 version) and 420Nm of torque.
Looking ahead to the new season, improvements have been made, including to the brakes (and its control system), having developed an ABS and ESC to improve feel and handling. The SEAT Leon CUPRA Evo 17 is front-wheel drive with self-locking VAQ electro-hydraulic differential, 378mm diameter front disc brakes with six-piston calipers and 272mm discs at the rear. In order to adapt to the driver or racetrack needs, brake balance and anti-roll bar can be adjusted, as well as camber and toe of the front suspension (McPherson) and the height and camber of the rear suspension (multi-arm).
A new press talk format
On the SEAT stand, several Press Talks will be carried out throughout the day, with three topics for discussion given by different members of the board of directors at SEAT. First up will be Luca de Meo, Chairman of the SEAT Executive Committee, who will deal with the current business situation and other corporate topics,  also featuring Wayne Griffiths, SEAT Executive Vice-President for Sales and Marketing, who will provide a commercial company overview. The next pair will consist of Dr. Matthias Rabe, SEAT Executive Vice-President for Research and Development and Dr. Andreas Tostmann, SEAT Executive Vice-President for Production who will hold a talk about the All-New Ibiza and the MQB-A0 platform. On top of those, Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, SEAT’s Design Director and Joaquin Serra, Director of Quality, will focus on the brand’s distinctive way of designing cars and the importance of quality.

The press talks will be given in English, German or Spanish, with a simultaneous translation system available in different languages. Each speaker will use a 27-inch tablet in order to present in the most flexible and approachable way to media guests.

This particular differential is a torque-sensitive mechanical unit that works to maintain traction when travelling on slippery or rough road surfaces, such as on sand, gravel, snow or ice.
Trac-Lok automatically distributes the available torque to the rear wheel with the most traction, thus helping to reduce wheel spin caused by lack of traction in the other rear wheel.

Jeep Stand
The Jeep exposition  located in Hall 5 is designed to give a visual identity to the two Jeep families: the right-hand side hosts the display of the “core and fun” one inspired by Wrangler and including the Renegade, both displayed on a natural wood floor.
The left-hand side of the stand is devoted to the more upscale, refined one inspired by the flagship Grand Cherokee on display beside the Cherokee and all-new Compass on a premium dark wood flooring.
The different versions of the Trailhawk family will be displayed on a central track that acts as a catwalk and reproduces a mud trail dividing in two parts the exposition area.
The track will link the current model range with its line-up of off-road specialists qualified to carry the "Trail Rated" badge: the Jeep exclusive recognition earned by those vehicles which, without additional equipment, can conquer the famous Rubicon Trail in California, which is considered one of the toughest off-road trails in the world.
In a dedicated area of the stand visitors will have the chance to live a unique, Virtual Reality, immersive 360-degrees experience of the new Jeep Compass, thanks to the “Jeep VR Configurator”.
This will allow the public to touch the Compass model displayed on the stand, but also to interact with the new compact SUV to discover its main features.
By wearing the VR headset HTC Vive visitors will be able to see the car reproduced in its real dimensions, choose the preferred trim level between the upscale Limited and the off-road specialist Trailhawk and interact with the selected model either in an urban or an off-road setting respectively.
Guests will be able not only to move around the car but also to open its doors, sit inside, open its liftgate to access the cargo area, and configure it by selecting its body colour, wheel design and interior trim. Four specific hotspots will also deliver detailed description of the model’s main features.
The immersive experience with the Jeep VR Configurator is only one of the innovative solutions in terms of customers’ experience the Jeep brand is exploring, with more news on the digital experiences front coming soon.
Last but not least, in a dedicated corner of the stand, visitors can explore the Mopar® area, hosting the full display of spare parts and merchandise.
The Jeep brand has always been the byword for freedom, adventure and excitement. The merchandising collection boldly conveys these feelings.
Two examples: the dual-function travel bag that can be turned into a handy backpack and is ready for all occasions of use, and the windproof jacket, a technical and fashionable garment with a pattern that surprisingly conceals the grille badge which can be discerned only after a careful look.
The Jeep Brand’s innovative technological spirit is highlighted by the extensive LED wall areas used for high-impact communication.

The Range Rover Velar brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the Range Rover family.
Designed to fill the white space between Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport, Velar offers levels of luxury, refinement and all-terrain capability never before seen in the mid-size SUV segment.
This is a new type of Range Rover for a new type of customer.
Jaguar Land Rover UK Managing Director, Jeremy Hicks said: “The new Range Rover Velar is a stunning addition to the Range Rover family, it enhances a model line-up that originally defined the luxury SUV segment and continues to do so.
Velar brings increased choice to new and existing customers in a growing SUV market. It leads the way in terms of design, usable technology, new materials and of course Land Rover’s legendary go anywhere, do anything capability.
“The whole team is enormously excited about bringing the new Range Rover Velar to customers across the UK.”
Velar is defined by a visually reductive approach and meticulous attention to precision in every detail, which evolves the Range Rover DNA.
Velar’s design is beautifully balanced, from its powerful proportions to its continuous waist line through to the taut tapered lines of the rear. The generous wheelbase contributes significantly to its elegance while helping to provide a spacious interior.
The large alloy wheels – in particular the range of 22-inch designs – optimise the vehicle’s stunning silhouette, while further enhancing Velar’s dramatic presence.
Advanced technology is pivotal to the contemporary design: the full-LED headlights are the most slender ever to appear on a production Land Rover vehicle. The flush deployable door handles emphasise Velar’s reductive, sculptured form, and contribute to the low drag coefficient from only 0.32 – this is the most aerodynamically-efficient Land Rover ever produced.
Look inside Velar’s interior and you will see elegant simplicity, sophistication and refinement.  An unwavering belief in reductionism has been fully employed, with switches being kept to an absolute minimum to help create a calm sanctuary.
Design-enabling technology has been engaged fully to create the new Touch Pro Duo infotainment system which is the centrepiece of Velar’s interior. Touch Pro Duo features two 10-inch high-definition touchscreens integrated seamlessly behind secret-until-lit surfaces. These slim, intuitive displays work in harmony with the cabin architecture while adding an overall sense of modernity congruent with the vehicle’s exterior design. All of this is equalled by Velar’s practicality: luggage compartment volume is an impressive 632 litres-litres including a reduced-section spare wheel as standard in the UK.
Unique in the segment, Velar offers a sustainable, premium textile seat material as an alternative to leather. The Dapple Grey material was developed together with Kvadrat, Europe’s leading manufacturer of high-quality design textiles, and is complemented with Suedecloth inserts in Ebony or Light Oyster.
The light, stiff, aluminium-intensive body, together with double-wishbone front- and Integral Link rear suspension provides the perfect basis for agile handling, superior ride comfort and outstanding refinement. It also delivers exceptional levels of crash protection, and Velar has been developed to meet the most demanding crash test regulations worldwide.
Combined with a comprehensive restraints system that includes six airbags, and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems including Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assist (standard on HSE) and an Adaptive Speed Limiter, Velar integrates the latest safety technology.
Velar features a sophisticated all-wheel drive system, four-corner air suspension, (available on 300PS Diesel and 380PS Petrol engines) class-leading ground clearance of up to 251mm (213mm with coil springs), class-leading wading depth of up to 650mm (600mm with coil springs) and Land Rover’s unmatched suite of traction technologies including Terrain Response 2 (optional) and All Terrain Progress Control (optional). Velar – like all Range Rovers – offers world-class all-terrain capability.
Exceptional performance and efficiency come from the range of six petrol and diesel powertrains, all matched to smooth-shifting ZF eight-speed automatic transmissions and all-wheel drive with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics.
Clean, refined four-cylinder Ingenium diesels are offered in 180PS and 240PS variants, noted for their low 142g/km CO2 emissions and high 500Nm torque output respectively. These engines are joined by the new, highly-advanced four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine which delivers 250PS and enables acceleration from 0-100km/h in just 6.7 seconds (0-60mph in 6.4 seconds). An even more powerful, 300PS version of this engine will join the Velar range later in the year.
The V6 diesel combines an extraordinary 700Nm of torque for effortless acceleration and off-road capability with CO2 emissions of only 167g/km. The 380PS supercharged V6 petrol engine combines exhilarating performance with a unique soundtrack and enables Velar to reach 0-60mph in only 5.3 seconds (100km/h in 5.7 seconds) before reaching an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph (250km/h).
The Velar and Velar R-Dynamic core range comprises Standard, S, SE or HSE specifications. Customers can also specify Black and Luxury Exterior Packs for an even more distinguished appearance.
Of all Velar models, the most exclusive of all will be the First Edition, which be available worldwide but strictly for one model year only. Even more luxurious than the HSE specification, this model is powered solely by the 3.0-litre V6 petrol and diesel engines and features a wealth of extra features as standard, including full extended leather interior trim to complement the perforated Windsor leather seats in Nimbus or Ebony, 1,600W Meridian Signature Sound System, Matrix-Laser LED headlights and 22-inch Split-Spoke wheels with diamond-turned finish.
Exterior paint colours for the First Edition are Corris Grey, Silicon Silver, and Flux Silver – a unique satin finish exclusive to the First Edition for the first model year only – which will be meticulously hand-sprayed at Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations’ Oxford Road Technical Centre in the UK.
Designed and engineered at Jaguar Land Rover’s development centres in the UK, Velar will be produced at the company’s Solihull production facility, UK. It goes on sale in mid-July in the UK and Europe and in over 170 markets worldwide.

1.         PREMIUM DESIGN
Velar brings a new dimension of glamour and elegance to the Range Rover family. Designed to fill the white space between Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport, this is a new type of Range Rover for a new type of customer.
1.1       Perfect proportions, precision execution
Velar is both instantly recognisable as a Range Rover and radical in its interpretation of the brand’s DNA. The mid-size luxury SUV is defined by formal, powerful volumes that are beautifully balanced by perfectly optimised volume and proportions. The large wheels – up to 22-inches in diameter – help to define the stunning silhouette while enhancing Velar’s dramatic presence.
The floating roof and clamshell bonnet provide clear references to its lineage and visually reinforce the class-leading all-terrain capability for which all Range Rovers are renowned. The 2,874mm wheelbase (Evoque: 2,660mm; Range Rover Sport: 2,923mm) enhances Velar’s visual length, and contributes to the exceptionally spacious cabin and luggage compartment – which is a spacious 558 litres (including standard spare reduced-section wheel). The continuous, rising waistline and tapering glasshouse balance formal elegance with a poised, sporting attitude.
The short front overhang and super-slim full-LED headlights further minimise visual weight. The longer rear overhang provides balance and highlights Velar’s imposing length, and features a pronounced kick to add to the muscular stance. Twin chrome exhaust finishers are integrated perfectly into the rear bumper and provide a subtle reference to Velar’s power and performance.
Beautiful details, advanced technology
An upright, bold front graphic and long bonnet set the tone for Velar’s exterior design language. The form of the dominant, proud grille is emphasised by slender full-LED headlights which deliver an emphatic slim-line visual signature. The front bumper’s pronounced air inlets and subtle skid plate hint at both Velar’s performance and its class-leading all-terrain capability.
The fast windscreen angle intersects with the front axle line and flows into the Range Rover floating roof design, which can be specified in either body colour or optional Narvik Black contrast finishes. Fixed and sliding panoramic roof options highlight Velar’s exceptional interior space by allowing natural light to flood in.
The pure, simple yet strong form of the bodysides is testament to Range Rover’s long history of lightweight aluminium construction. The clean, unadorned surfaces are punctuated by a strong shoulder line just below the glasshouse, while a thin, sweeping black graphic flows elegantly around the body’s lower reaches.
Fender vents which begin in line with the front axle flow backwards to the front doors, emphasising Velar’s dynamic character.
The relentless focus on clean, pure lines made it essential to achieve extremely tight panel gaps, a challenge that the Design and Engineering teams have achieved with absolute precision.
Flush deployable door handles – a Range Rover-first – emphasise how Velar’s striking design is enabled by technology. The handles, which feature subtle LED illumination, quickly deploy when the doors are unlocked via the key fob, or by pressing a discreet button set into the handle, and hinge gracefully forwards when pulled to open the doors.
They retract seamlessly into the doors when the car is locked, or at speeds above 5mph (8km/h), improving aerodynamic efficiency for improved fuel efficiency, and drawing further attention to the strikingly clean, uninterrupted form of the bodysides.
Every Velar features LED headlights as standard. As well as superior illumination and energy efficiency compared to Bi-Xenon lights, LED technology has also enabled the Designers to create the most slender headlight clusters ever fitted to a production Land Rover. They wrap dramatically around the front of the vehicle; a full-length black graphic within emphasises their narrow width. Distinctive daytime-running lights enhance the assertive road presence that all Range Rover vehicles command.
Four different LED headlight designs are available, culminating in segment-first Matrix-Laser LED Headlights. The lasers provide even better visibility at night, extending the range of full beam to 550 metres. The Adaptive Front Lighting system matches the light beam to the steering wheel angle, while the matrix technology selectively dims individual LEDs to maintain optimum light distribution and ensure that full beam can be used without dazzling oncoming traffic.
The Matrix-Laser LED headlights are also distinguished by the signature daytime running lights and Animated Direction Indicators which sweep across the lights in the intended direction of travel, improving safety.
Slimline LED fog lights further enhance Velar’s technology-enabled design and are seamlessly integrated into the lower black feature line that wraps round the vehicle.
The LED taillights echo the sophistication of the headlights with an eye-catching 3D appearance. They are complemented by a full-length high-level stop-lamp: hidden-until-lit and with a clear lens, it uses light-guide technology with integrated micro-optics to create smooth, homogeneous light. The LED rear fog lights blend into the sweeping black contrast graphic as it reaches the rear of the vehicle, and are visible from the side.
Tailoring the perfect look
A choice of exterior design treatments enhance customer choice and makes Velar even more distinctive. R-Dynamic models receive a unique, deeper front bumper with enlarged apertures to increase cooling and create greater visual presence.
Burnished Copper-coloured detailing extends to the front bumper blades and fender vents, while the front grille and all Range Rover lettering is finished in Shadow Atlas Silver. The black contrast roof option lowers the visual centre of gravity and complements the Dark Grey Satin wheels.
Black and Premium exterior packs provide additional visual differentiation. The Black Pack is offered on both standard and R-Dynamic derivatives, introducing distinctive Narvik Black to the grille mesh and surround, bonnet and tailgate lettering, fender vents, tow-eye cover surround and lower bumper blade. For R-Dynamic derivatives, the bonnet vent blades, bumper aperture inserts and exhaust finishers are also finished in Narvik Black.
The Premium pack is reserved exclusively for standard Velar derivatives, and includes lower exterior trim elements finished in high-gloss Narvik Black to enhance Velar’s elegant detailing. The addition of fog lamps, a tow-eye cover in Narvik Black, tow-eye cover surround in Indus Silver and lower bumper blades in Atlas Silver complete the transformation.
A range of 13 exterior colours is available: Fuji White, Narvik Black, Yulong White, Indus Silver, Corris Grey, Santorini Black, Kaikoura Stone, Byron Blue, Firenze Red, Aruba, Silicon Silver and Carpathian Grey.
For the ultimate premium appearance, a new Flux Silver satin paint finish is available exclusively for the First Edition model for the first model year from Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division, and applied at the Oxford Road Technical Centre. The advanced paint features a vacuum-metallised pigment to enhance the effect of both light and shade over Velar’s elegant, svelte form.
Eight distinctive wheel designs ranging from 18- to 22-inches with a choice of four finishes are available. Standard models are supplied with 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, while S upgrades to a 19-inch, SE to 20-inch and HSE 21-inch. All customers can specify to 22-inch* alloy wheels, which form part of the First Edition’s comprehensive standard equipment.
1.2       The interior: a calm sanctuary
Mirroring the taut, uncluttered, and perfectly-executed exterior design, Velar’s precision-crafted interior embraces the latest technology to enhance Range Rover’s trademark architecture with a renewed focus on luxury materials, exquisite detailing, and exceptional refinement.
Positioned in the Sports-Command driving position, Velar’s front seats balance performance-oriented design and support with opulent comfort, and offer up to 20-way adjustment and heating, cooling and massage functions. Meticulously weight-optimised and designed to liberate additional interior space, the seats have also been carefully sculpted for ease of entry and egress to and from the cabin.
The 40:20:40 rear seats offer exceptional comfort too, and are available with heating and electric recline options. The optional four-zone climate control and cabin air ionisation system make Velar’s interior an even more comfortable place to be for all occupants.
The instrument panel’s strong, horizontal beam is the defining element of Velar’s interior architecture. It rakes back dramatically towards the windscreen to create the fastest angle of any Land Rover and underline Velar’s dynamic driving characteristics. The slender air vents reinforce Velar’s reductive, technology-enabled design.
Showcased in the centre are the two high-definition 10-inch touchscreens of the new Touch Pro Duo infotainment system. The thin capacitive polycarbonate precisely follows the subtle curvature of the instrument panel for seamless, perfectly flush surface integration. Integrating the Terrain Response and Terrain Response 2 controls into Touch Pro Duo eliminates the traditional dial and hard buttons, creating extra space in the centre console and further emphasising the visually-reductive approach that drives every aspect of Velar’s design.
The infotainment system features two multi-function rotary controllers and are distinguished by their tactile, rubberised outer surface, Satin Chrome bezels and seamlessly-integrated digital display screens. The rotary transmission controller rises silently from the centre console on start-up.
In front of the driver are twin-analogue dials with a 5-inch TFT display between them, or, as standard from SE specification and above, a 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display. This high-definition virtual instrument cluster delivers a rich, high-technology experience and allows the driver to prioritise key information: a two-dial layout with an information panel in the centre, a one-dial layout flanked by dual information displays, or a full-map view when navigation features.
Key information such as speed, turn-by-turn navigation instructions and active safety system warnings can also be displayed to the driver using the latest-generation full-colour head-up display. The virtual images projected onto the windscreen appear to hover some two metres in front of the driver, allowing the driver to quickly and easily process the information while remaining focused on the road ahead.
The steering wheel features capacitive switches which benefit from situation-based options and even allow the driver to programme specific functions.
Authentic materials, innovative details
Authentic materials of the finest quality and contemporary finishes underline Velar’s luxury status. The cockpit’s distinctive horizontal architecture is celebrated with a new embossed Cut Diamond signature design, which flows from the instrument panel through to the door casings to emphasise the width of the spacious cabin.
The new design is subtly echoed throughout the interior: the Windsor Leather and Premium Textile seats feature a perforated interpretation, and the Cut Diamond motif forms an integral part of the stainless steel speaker frets’ structure on the Meridian 17- and 23-speaker audio systems.
Unique to the luxury SUV segment, the innovative Premium Textile seat material is offered as an alternative to leather upholstery as part of the Interior Premium Textile Pack. Developed with Kvadrat, Europe’s leading manufacturer of high-quality design textiles, this sustainable material comes in Dapple Grey and features wool-blend textile contrasted with a Suedecloth insert available in Light Oyster or Ebony.
The Suedecloth fibres are created from recycled plastic bottles and crafted into a textured non-woven material that’s soft to the touch. An advanced coating system ensures the Premium Textile interior passes Land Rover’s most rigorous tests for durability, and can be easily cleaned.
Standard models feature Suedecloth and Luxtec upholstery with distinctive twin-needle stitching. S and SE models upgrade to high-quality, perforated grained leather. The top HSE specification is equipped with luxuriously soft perforated Windsor leather, which extends to the instrument panel and door casings.
Perfectly-crafted trim finishers celebrate the natural look and texture of authentic materials. Choices include Satin Blonde Linear veneer, which is pale-stained and has a satin feel open-pore finish to give a very modern, airy character, and the prestigious Argento Pin-stripe, which is distinguished by its high-gloss finish and silver streaks to emphasise the wood grain. Another highlight is Carbon Fibre Copper weave trim, created by weaving carbon fibre and copper filaments together under a high gloss finish to signify sporting luxury.
Ambient LED lighting casts a soft glow over the interior, subtly highlighting the strong architectural lines and authentic materials for a calming atmosphere. Optional configurable ambient lighting technology offers a choice of 10 different colour options.
Versatility
While refinement is the priority for any Range Rover interior, versatility remains a key strength. The inherent package-efficiency engineered into Velar’s Lightweight Aluminium Architecture, together with the 2,874mm wheelbase delivers exceptional interior space for all occupants.
The split, sliding front centre armrest allows row-one occupants to individually adjust each half, and concealed underneath is a cubby with a cupholder and 4-litres of storage space. Another cupholder is located under a flush-fitting cover next to the rotary transmission controller. The glovebox, available with optional cooling, provides 7.5-litres of storage.
Row-one occupants have access to two USB ports and there are three 12V power sockets throughout the vehicle for charging mobile devices. A further 12V socket can be specified in the front of the cabin, along with an additional two USB ports for row-two.
Deep, wide stowage compartments in the lower door casings have been designed to accommodate 750ml drinks bottles with ease. The centre console provides additional storage behind the lower touchscreen – ideal for concealing smartphones and keys from view.
The luggage compartment not only delivers an impressive 632-litres of space, but is a match for some vehicles in the segment above. The 40:20:40 row-two seat features a ski-flap to enables long items to be through-loaded, and with the rear seats folded flat, Velar provides up to 1,731-litres of room from a load space measuring 1,795mm long by 1,247mm wide. Remote release levers are located in the luggage compartment to make lowering the rear seats even more convenient.
The gesture-controlled power tailgate option makes loading bulky or heavy objects into the luggage compartment easier and more convenient: rather than reach for the keyfob or pressing the release button on the tailgate, customers have only to make a kicking gesture under the rear bumper: sensors detect this movement and trigger the tailgate to open.
Another innovative technology designed to make life easier is Land Rover’s Activity Key option – a waterproof, shockproof wristband with integrated transponder – which allows customers to enjoy sports and outdoor pursuits such as running, cycling or kayaking without having to carry the standard key fob.
Holding the Activity Key up to the Land Rover badge on the tailgate simultaneously locks the vehicle and disables any keyfobs left inside, so they can be left securely behind while you enjoy your active lifestyle. Activity Key has no battery, so you never have to worry about changing it.
2.         STATE-OF-THE ART TECHNOLOGY
Technology and innovation define Velar, exemplified by the new, state-of-the-art Touch Pro Duo infotainment system.
2.1       World debut: Touch Pro Duo infotainment system
Velar debuts the new Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, which is the most advanced system developed by Jaguar Land Rover and is truly state-of-the-art. Touch Pro Duo features two high-definition 10-inch touchscreens that form the centrepiece of the beautifully minimalist cabin, and blends a futuristic, elegant feel with an intuitive, engaging interface and unrivalled performance and functionality.
Located in the instrument panel’s horizontal beam, the upper touchscreen’s menu is divided into three panels for navigation, media and phone. Interaction is as intuitive as using a tablet or a smartphone: swiping across the screen to change between menus, pinching to zoom in and out, and with pressing and scrolling across the screen to pan across maps.
Each function may be individually selected and displayed on the main part of the screen to provide more detailed information and user options. A side panel provides access for up to five frequently used functions: navigation, media, phone, news and weather. A permanent menu bar in the lower portion of the screen provides easy access to the home menu, vehicle settings and parking aids.
Gently curved to lie perfectly flush with the surrounding structure, the upper screen can tilt through 30 degrees, allowing the driver to set it at the perfect position. The screen returns to the flush position when the ignition is switched off and automatically adjusts to the previously selected angle when the ignition is switched on again.
The lower touchscreen is integrated within the centre console and manages features including the climate control and Terrain Response functions. To make operation as easy and intuitive as possible there are no moving images and no complex menus – the touchscreen provides direct inputs to seat temperature controls, for example.
The two touchscreens are complemented by two tactile rotary controllers. These are reconfigurable to enable them to perform several functions, such as adjusting cabin air temperature, optional massage seat settings or the Terrain Response mode. Between them is a dial for controlling the audio system.
A row of capacitive switches is positioned below the rotaries to control maximum A/C and defrost settings, plus Dynamic Stability Control and Hill Descent Control functions. Lit in white when not in use, when pressed the switches illuminate in amber.
Touch Pro Duo’s reductive design and outstanding performance is enabled by the very latest technologies. The HD touchscreens use optical bonding to allow a curved surface while at the same time delivering exceptional image quality: suspending the flat TFT display in an optical resin eliminates the air gaps that can otherwise cause reflections and parallax images.
An Intel quad core processor, high-speed 60GB solid-state drive and ultra-fast Ethernet network are at the heart of Touch Pro Duo’s world-class performance and functionality, and together with the touchscreen design and rotary controllers, deliver an unrivalled user experience.
Connectivity
Touch Pro Duo is also designed to keep you connected, and its Micro SIM 4G connectivity enables a host of features, functions and location-based services that make every journey easier, more enjoyable and more relaxing (standard on S and above).
Use the online search to find your destination, and the system can also tell you if you have enough fuel to complete the journey. If not, you will be alerted and filling stations on the route that are within range will be shown on the map – tapping on one is all it takes to set it as a waypoint. Fuel prices can also be shown, and even the filling station brand.
Real-time traffic information helps you to avoid congestion, and plan alternative routes. But if you are delayed, Touch Pro Duo’s Share ETA Mode can send your location and estimated time of arrival to chosen contacts via email or text message. If your journey time slips, the system can automatically send further updates.
Commute Mode learns your daily drive so that, using both historical and real-time traffic information, it can suggest alternative routes and help you to reach your destination on time.
When you approach the end of your journey, Arrival Mode shows a 360° interactive view of your destination alongside the main map display using street level imagery. If desired, the system can then find you a nearby parking space and direct you straight to it.
A route planning app enables you to programme a route in advance on a smartphone, which will then automatically be uploaded to the system once you’re in the vehicle. And because Touch Pro Duo provides true door-to-door routing, it can help you complete the final stage of your journey on foot or using public transport by seamlessly transferring guidance back to your phone once you park the vehicle.
For enhanced connectivity, Touch Pro Duo also features a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight devices (available on S derivative and above) InControl Apps also allows owners to access compatible apps from iOS and Android devices using the system’s upper touchscreen.
Customers can also interact with Velar remotely – from anywhere in the world. The InControl Remote app allows the owner to lock and unlock their vehicle, check how much fuel is in the tank or where the vehicle is parked using a smartphone or smartwatch. It’s even possible to start the engine and set the climate control system or park heater remotely.
Secure Tracker technology allows the owner to track a stolen vehicle using the Land Rover app on their smartphone. If the vehicle is broken into or moved illegally, the app will alert the driver and the monitoring centre to help pinpoint and recover it as soon as possible. Even if the vehicle is stolen using the keys, the owner can alert the tracking call centre using the smartphone app.
Drivers gain extra peace of mind thanks to SOS Emergency call technology with Automatic Collision Detection and Optimised Assistance. In the event of an emergency, an SOS call notifies the emergency services of the location of the vehicle. Should the vehicle break down, Optimised Assistance transmits its GPS location and vehicle diagnostics data to a recovery company.
Perfect sound
As well as offering unrivalled connectivity, Velar offers a choice of four premium audio systems, each one developed to integrate perfectly with Velar’s cabin and deliver exceptional sound quality, most of all the 1,600W Signature Sound System developed with renowned British audio experts Meridian.
This state-of-the-art surround sound system delivers an unparalleled listening experience for all occupants through 23 perfectly placed speakers, enhanced with Audyssey MultEQ XTdigital audio tuning and Trifield 3D sound processing technology. These combine to produce a truly immersive experience which perfectly reproduces the original recording
Customers can also specify the fully integrated Rear Seat Entertainment system which comprises two 8-inch HD touchscreens in true 15:9 widescreen format, two remote controls and two sets of WhiteFire-connected wireless headphones.
The screens are independent, so each one can play a different movie or, where available, digital TV channel. The twin USB 3.0 ports or the HDMI and HDMI/MHL connectors enable rear-seat occupants to stream media from smartphones and tablets. Front-seat occupants can select and monitor the content shown on the rear screens, and can also turn off individual screens, if desired.
2.2       Advanced driver-assistance systems
An array of advanced driver-assistance systems is fitted as standard or offered as optional equipment to make every journey in a Velar safer and more comfortable.
One of the most important technologies is Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). A forward-facing stereo camera inside the windscreen monitors the road in front of the vehicle: if the AEB system determines that a collision with another vehicle or a pedestrian is imminent then full braking is triggered automatically, helping to avoid the collision altogether, or to mitigate the effects. The driver also receives visual and audible warnings before braking is initiated.
The stereo camera is also used for the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA) functions. By monitoring road markings and the driver’s use of the indicators, these systems can help to prevent the driver from drifting out of lane: LDW can issue a haptic warning though the steering wheel, while LKA goes further and can apply a small amount of counter-steering to keep the vehicle in its lane. The steering torque is easily overcome if required.
Driver Condition Monitoring measures steering inputs, throttle and brake application and analyses lane departure and the driver’s use of direction indicators. If the system’s algorithms determine from the data that the driver is drowsy – for example from periods of no steering followed by sudden, sharp inputs – a coffee cup symbol is shown in the instrument cluster to encourage them to take a break.
Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) uses the stereo camera to read speed limit signs, which are then displayed in the instrument cluster and, if fitted, the head-up display. TSR intelligently adapts to temporary limits in roadworks, and to the lower speed limits applicable in some countries during wet weather, or if the vehicle is towing a trailer.
Reverse Traffic Detection uses radar to monitor vehicles approaching from either side of the vehicle when reversing. An orange warning illuminates in the door mirrors to alert the driver to any potential danger.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Queue Assist and Intelligent Emergency Braking reduces driver workload when cruising on the motorway or driving in traffic. ACC maintains a set cruising speed, or a driver-selectable gap to the vehicle ahead if the leading vehicle’s speed is lower. The technology ensures the vehicle will come to a complete stop when the vehicle ahead does. If the driver then presses the accelerator, Velar will pull away and track the vehicle in front all the way up to the chosen speed setting, where conditions allow. If the system detects that a potential frontal collision with another vehicle may occur, it will display an alert to warm the driver to brake. If the driver doesn’t react, the system will deploy the brakes to reduce the severity of the potential impact.
The 360° Parking Aid makes it easy for drivers to manoeuvre the vehicle in tight spaces. Cameras located around the car are automatically triggered when Reverse is selected, or can be manually activated, with a graphic appearing on the touchscreen showing an overhead view of the car. The touchscreen display and audio feedback indicates the proximity of obstacles.
Park Assist identifies suitable parallel and perpendicular parking spaces using ultrasonic sensor, and alerts the driver with a message in the instrument cluster. Once the driver accepts the parking location, the vehicle steers itself on both entry to and – in the case of parallel parking spaces – exit from the space while the driver just controls the accelerator, brakes and selects either Drive or Reverse.
Towing made simpler and safer
Every vehicle wearing the Land Rover badge must offer exemplary towing ability: Velar is no exception. With a towing capacity of up to 2,500kg, and technologies already proven on the new Discovery that make this inherent ability even more accessible, Velar is the most useable tow vehicle in its class.
The semi-autonomous Advanced Tow Assist function enables all drivers to perform potentially difficult reversing manoeuvres with ease. Instead of steering and counter steering as normal, the driver simply guides the trailer into position using the infotainment system’s rotary controller – Advanced Tow Assist calculates all necessary steering inputs.
First, the driver must configure the system through the touchscreen by entering key trailer details. Then, responsive trajectory lines appear on the touchscreen from the feed from cameras in the door mirrors, showing the anticipated direction of the trailer. By steering the trailer using the infotainment system’s rotary controller and by operating the pedals, the driver can reverse park trailers with ease because the system calculates all of the necessary steering inputs. It will also alert the driver if the requested steering input is excessive and could cause a jackknife.
Hitch Assist makes it easier to hook at trailer up to Velar. Using surround cameras, the touchscreen displays the towbar and recognises the trailer mounting point. The display then zooms in, showing a trajectory line, which responds to steering wheel inputs to help the driver to guide the vehicle into place.
The Trailer Light Test feature enables drivers to test trailer lights without help from others by pulsing them while they are standing outside the vehicle. The system can be activated with a button in the luggage compartment or by using the touchscreen.
3.         WORLD-CLASS ENGINEERING
Engineering integrity is at the heart of every Land Rover. Engineered in the UK and developed and tested in the harshest conditions around the world, Velar upholds that core philosophy. The result is a mid-size luxury SUV that provides outstanding dynamics and refinement, unparalleled all-terrain capability and total dependability.
3.1       Outstanding capability on- and off-road
Velar’s advanced chassis offers the ultimate in comfort, dynamics and all-terrain capability. The sophisticated double-wishbone front suspension follows sports car design principles, with knuckles and bearings engineered for particularly high stiffness to deliver exemplary steering and handling response and precision. Aluminium is used extensively to save weight, while steel front lower control arms provide maximum durability in challenging off-road conditions.
An Integral Link rear axle with forged aluminium toe links and upper control arms delivers the high lateral stiffness needed for exceptional handling precision, together with the longitudinal compliance needed for outstanding ride comfort and refinement. Integral Link is the most sophisticated and most capable rear suspension system available, and the design is also highly space-efficient, minimising intrusion into the luggage compartment
The suspension systems also offer outstanding wheel articulation and ensure that Velar can outperform the competition no matter what the terrain. With an approach angle of up to 28.89 degrees, breakover angle of up to 23.5 degrees and a departure angle of up to 29.5 degrees, and a maximum wading depth of 650mm (600mm for coil spring suspension), Velar sets new standards for off-road capability in the mid-size SUV segment.
Velar is offered with coil springs as standard on four-cylinder models, and a ground clearance of 213mm. Four-corner air suspension as an option on the four-cylinder 240PS diesel and 300PS petrol, and as standard on all six-cylinder models. This system delivers truly outstanding comfort and significantly increased off-road capability.
The air suspension’s ride height drops by 10mm when cruising at speeds above 65mph (105km/h) to reduce aerodynamic drag and therefore improve fuel efficiency. The Auto Access Height function automatically lowers the suspension by 40mm when the ignition is turned off, making it easier to get in and out of the vehicle.
Off-road mode increases the ride height by 46mm compared to Normal mode at speeds below 32mph (50km/h) for a class-leading ground clearance of 251mm, but automatically lowers by 18mm between 32-50mph (50-80km/h) () to provide an ideal combination of stability, comfort and ground clearance during longer journeys on rutted, unpaved roads or surfaces.
The air suspension also helps drivers when wading too. The Grounding Detection function can automatically raise the vehicle to help clear underwater obstacles which the driver may not have been able to see. The additional ground clearance can be requested by pressing the brake pedal and a button on the touchscreen. And because air suspension is self-levelling, it maintains the optimum ride height when towing or carrying heavy loads, improving occupant comfort. It also brings benefits when hitching a trailer, or when loading or unloading: controls inside the luggage compartment allow the suspension to be raised or lowered by 50mm respectively.
Adaptive Dynamics is standard on all models. By monitoring wheel movement 500 times per second, and body movements 100 times per second, the system continuously varies the damping forces at all four corners of vehicle. This ensures that suspension stiffness is optimised for the driving conditions, improving ride comfort and handling – there’s even a specific calibration for off-road driving.
Configurable Dynamics: a tailored driving experience
Standard on First Edition models and available across the range, Configurable Dynamics allows the driver to tailor vehicle settings to their individual preference using the touchscreen. In Dynamic mode’s default setting, throttle response is increased, gear shifts anticipate a sportier driving style, the suspension stiffens and power-steering assistance is reduced for extra driver feedback. Configurable Dynamics allows each parameter to be individually adjusted, so increased throttle response can be combined with, for example, the default suspension setting.
Dynamic information is also displayed in the touchscreen and shows g-force, stopwatch and the throttle pedal activation, helping enthusiasts to make the most of their driving experiences.
Electric Power-Assisted Steering: response and efficiency
Velar’s electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) system has been developed for exceptional driver feedback, precision and feel. Optimised friction and inertia compensation algorithms ensure completely intuitive steering responses, and an active return system promotes a natural self-centring effect as the steering returns to the straight-ahead position. The variable-ratio system also ensures that the driver benefits from greater responsiveness the more they turn the wheel.
EPAS improves efficiency as well as the driving experience: because it only uses energy when the wheel is turned, it can cut fuel consumption by as much as three per cent on the European combined cycle compared to hydraulic systems.
The Torque Vectoring by Braking (TVB) system, standard on all models, further enhances agility. If the system detects the onset of understeer during corner entry it can initiate light braking of the inside wheels – in particular the inside rear – to help the driver to maintain an ideal line through the corner. TVB is also beneficial at lower speeds when driving on slippery surfaces such as mud or snow.
Unrivalled capability: All-Wheel Drive system and traction technologies
Velar is equipped with a range of advanced technology to deliver exceptional composure and agility on-road, and class-leading capability off-road.
The most significant of these is an intelligent, efficient, torque on-demand all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, which provides the optimum torque distribution to suit the conditions, whether dynamic driving on tarmac roads or pulling away on polished ice.
The system is built around a single-speed transfer case featuring a multi-plate wet clutch and a chain drive to the front axle. Designed to be compact and quiet in operation, the transfer case’s main advantage is its speed: depending on conditions it can make the transition from 100 per cent rear bias to fully locked in only 165 milliseconds; transient torque delivery to the front axle can take as little as 100 milliseconds. This makes the AWD system incredibly responsive, which delivers exceptional performance in all conditions.
Torque distribution between the front and rear axles is managed by Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD), a highly-sophisticated control system developed in-house. IDD takes information from a number of sensors around the vehicle, including steering wheel angle, throttle position, yaw rate and lateral acceleration. Using this data, IDD continuously estimates the friction between the tyre contact patch and the surface – and how much of the available grip is being exploited.
With this level of intelligence, IDD can use both pre-emptive and reactive control strategies in order to optimise torque distribution, maximising traction and also enhancing vehicle dynamics. To make IDD even more effective, it is networked to the vehicle’s Dynamic Stability Control system, Torque Vectoring System and – where fitted – the Active Locking Rear Differential.
The Active Locking Rear Differential, which is available on all six-cylinder models, also delivers benefits on- and off-road. Electronic control of the wet clutch pack means that the differential can optimise the torque distribution between the rear wheels as a function of load transfer and surface friction: this maximises traction during launch and corner exit, and when traversing challenging off-road terrains.
Land Rover’s world-leading Terrain Response system allows the driver to adjust vehicle settings to suit prevailing surface conditions, with a choice of Eco, Comfort, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Ruts, Sand, and – on R-Dynamic models – Dynamic mode. Each alters the calibration of the engine, transmission, all-wheel drive system, suspension, and stability control systems for optimum traction and composure.
The even more advanced Terrain Response 2, standard on First Edition models and available as an option on all others, also has an automatic setting to make it even simpler for drivers to fully exploit the vehicle’s capability because it automatically selects the best Terrain Response mode for any given surface.
In a Land Rover-first, the Terrain Response systems are accessed not through a dedicated controller but using the driver’s reconfigurable infotainment system rotary controller, or directly through the touchscreen itself. This intelligent system integration contributes to the clean, uncluttered design of the centre console.
A comprehensive portfolio of off-road technologies supports Velar’s class-leading all-terrain capability. All Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) , also standard on First Edition models and available as an option on all others,  functions like a low-speed cruise control and provides added composure in adverse conditions by managing vehicle speed, allowing the driver to concentrate solely on steering the vehicle – use of the throttle and brake is not required. The system is activated with the press of a button, and the desired speed set using the cruise control switches on the steering wheel.
ATPC works in both forward and reverse gears and is operational from 2.2mph to 18mph (3.6km/h to 30km/h) (). It is particularly beneficial in challenging off-road environments where a constant crawl speed is desirable in order to maintain vehicle composure and occupant comfort.
Low Traction Launch is designed to help drivers pull away smoothly from a standstill on very slippery surfaces. Activated through the infotainment system’s lower touchscreen, Low Traction Launch provides a very progressive throttle pedal calibration, reducing the possibility of wheelspin. Above 18mph(30km/h), the throttle calibration automatically reverts back to the Terrain Response setting that was previously selected.
Hill Descent Control (HDC) uses the ABS system to maintain a controlled vehicle speed on steep inclines without driver intervention. HDC incorporates Gradient Release Control to progressively release the brakes when moving away on an incline.
The latest development of the 4x4i menu offers slope information – displaying the degree of incline and front and rear camera views – as well as familiar information such as steering wheel angle, driveline torque distribution, suspension articulation, and Wade Sensing data.
3.2       Refined and efficient powertrains
Every one of the six petrol and diesel engines offered in Velar is engineered for the ideal blend of performance, refinement and efficiency and meets stringent Euro 6 emissions regulations. All are matched to smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmissions and all-wheel drive to deliver the effortless, composed driving experience synonymous with all Range Rover vehicles.
Ingenium diesels: Low fuel consumption, high torque
Two versions of Jaguar Land Rover’s clean, refined four-cylinder Ingenium diesel are offered, each delivering high levels of torque from low engine speeds, ensuring excellent responsiveness and acceleration whenever the driver demands it. Features such as the highly rigid crankcase, twin balancer shafts and active fluid-filled engine mounts ensure superb refinement.
Both of these 2.0-litre engines share the same inherently efficient, low friction design, and benefit from features such as a split-cooling system and electronically-controlled coolant pump for rapid warm-up and therefore reduced fuel consumption. Variable exhaust cam timing helps the aftertreatment system to reach operating temperature as quickly as possible, reducing emissions.
And both feature state-of-the-art technologies to cut NOx emissions. The sophisticated exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system uses a cooled low-pressure circuit in addition to a high-pressure circuit: this reduces pumping losses, and therefore increases efficiency still further, and also reduces peak combustion temperatures to help reduce the formation of NOx in the cylinders.
The selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system cuts tailpipe emissions of NOx to very low levels. The system injects AdBlue diesel exhaust fluid into the exhaust gas, where it reacts with the NOx and converts it into harmless nitrogen and water, ensuring that the Ingenium diesels comply with the stringent limits of Euro 6.
The most efficient version of the engine, known as D180, features a 1,800bar common-rail system and a single variable geometry turbocharger, ensuring clean, quiet efficient combustion and excellent response from low engine speeds. Developing 180PS and maximum torque of 430Nm from 1,750rpm, this engine delivers flexible performance and outstanding efficiency: acceleration from 0-60mph in 8.4 seconds (0-100km/h takes 8.9 seconds) , with fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of 52.5mpg (5.4-litres/100km) and 142g/km respectively on the European combined cycle.
For greater performance without sacrificing efficiency, drivers can choose the more powerful Ingenium diesel: the D240. Equipped two turbochargers – Jaguar Land Rover’s first application of a series-sequential boosting system – and a 2,200bar common-rail system, this engine produces 240PS and an exceptional 500Nm of torque from just 1,500rpm. This enables acceleration from 0-60mph in only 6.8 seconds (0-100km/h 7.3 seconds. Figures of 48.7mpg (5.8-litres/100km) and 154g/km CO2 are equally impressive.
Extraordinary torque: V6 diesel with 700Nm
The latest 3.0-litre V6 diesel – the D300 – delivers benchmark refinement with exceptional efficiency and outstanding performance, thanks to a potent 300PS and astonishing maximum torque of 700Nm. This remarkable engine can take Velar from 0-60mph in only 6.1 seconds (0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds) on the way to a maximum speed of 150mph (241km/h). Fuel consumption and emissions figures are 44.1mpg (6.4-litres/100km) and 167g/km CO2.
This combination of power and efficiency is enabled by a package of advanced technologies. The 2,000bar piezo common-rail system ensures highly precise injection for optimised atomisation and mixing of the fuel droplets, boosting output and reducing emissions.
Response from the innovative parallel-sequential turbocharging system has been improved with highly optimised compressor wheel, turbine and variable nozzle designs, delivering even stronger torque output at lower engine speeds. State-of-the-art ceramic ball bearings are used in the primary turbo to reduce friction, resulting in an even more rapid build-up of torque and truly effortless acceleration.
Like the four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engines, this V6 is equipped with both high-pressure EGR and cooled low-pressure EGR systems and an SCR system to cut NOx emissions and ensure Euro 6 compliance.
Four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engines: performance and efficiency
Velar is one of the first applications for Jaguar Land Rover’s new 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engines, designed to offer smooth, refined performance. Technologies including an integrated exhaust manifold, 200bar direct injection system and twin-scroll turbocharger are key to the engines’ responsiveness and efficiency.
The engines also feature electrohydraulic control of the inlet valves. This cutting-edge technology enables variable valve lift, so load control is managed primarily by the intake valves rather than the throttle. This reduces pumping losses and provides unmatched flexibility and control over airflow into the combustion chambers, improving power and torque, increasing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions.
Known as the P250, the first of the two new petrol engines develops peak power of 250PS and high maximum torque of 365Nm, which is maintained from just 1,200rpm to 4,500rpm. This means that Velar can accelerate from 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds (0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds) and return an impressive 37.2mpg (7.6-litres/100km) and 173g/km CO2 on the European combined cycle.
The most powerful version – the P300 – is rated at 300PS, making it the most powerful four-cylinder engine ever used in a Land Rover vehicle. It generates a maximum torque of 400Nm, delivering exceptional response at all times. This high-performance engine will be available later in the year.
Exceptional performance: Supercharged V6 petrol engine
The ultimate engine option for the most demanding drivers is the 3.0-litre supercharged V6. Known as the P380, this all-aluminium petrol engine is equipped with a Twin-Vortex supercharger, direct injection and dual-independent variable-camshaft timing to deliver instantaneous response from idle right up to the redline. Counter-rotating balancer shafts minimise vibration for exceptional refinement.
The result is an outstanding 380PS at 6500rpm and 450Nm of torque – enough to accelerate the vehicle from 0-60mph in just 5.3 seconds (0-100km/h 5.7 seconds)  and on to an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph (250km/h). An impressive 30.1mpg (9.4-litres/100km) and 214g/km CO2 on the European combined cycle underline this powerful engine’s exceptional breadth of capability.
The unique exhaust note has been meticulously tuned to deliver an engaging but discreet confirmation of the power available to the driver on full throttle, and be superbly refined and relaxing at a cruise.
Smooth and responsive eight-speed automatic transmissions
Every Velar is equipped with a responsive and smooth eight-speed ZF automatic transmission with paddleshift controls. Four-cylinder engines are matched to the 8HP 45 transmission, which feature an integral pendulum damper. This device dramatically reduces the booming and vibration typically experienced when running in high gears at low engine speeds, and therefore contributes to Velar’s low fuel consumption and quiet, refined cabin.
The six-cylinders are paired with the 8HP 70 transmission, which is engineered to manage the higher torque ratings of these larger displacement engines. All engines benefit from bespoke transmission calibrations, ensuring optimum fuel efficiency and the most rewarding and intuitive shift characteristics.
3.3       Lightweight Aluminium Architecture: stiff, strong, safe
Velar’s aluminium-intensive monocoque body is developed using Jaguar Land Rover’s Lightweight Aluminium Architecture. This modular design, which features an intelligent mix of materials, is fundamental to Velar’s refinement, efficiency and all-terrain capability. Aluminium alloys account for more than 81 per cent of the body-in-white – a figure no competitor can match.
Carefully selected grades and types of materials are specified throughout the structure to deliver the optimum balance of strength, stiffness and weight. The use of 6000-series high-strength aluminium alloy bodysides enabled a reduction in panel thickness from 1.5mm to 1.1mm, saving weight without compromising strength. The aluminium roof helps to lower the centre of gravity, improving ride and handling. High-pressure die castings are used to form highly complex parts such as the front suspension turrets.
High-strength steels are used for selected rear body sections, and are joined to the adjacent aluminium panels with self-piercing rivets and structural adhesive. This clean and energy-efficient joining technology contributes to the body’s high torsional stiffness.
Lightweight magnesium alloys are used to make the front-end carrier and cross-car beam, while the tailgate is made from advanced composite materials.
Velar’s body structure also delivers high levels of crash protection safety was developed to meet the most demanding crash tests regulations worldwide. The protection afforded by the extremely rigid passenger cell is complemented by a restraints system featuring six airbags: driver and passenger airbags, side airbags that deploy from the front seats and curtain airbags spanning the front and rear seats.
Pedestrian impact protection was a priority too, and the material grade and form of the aluminium bonnet were developed to ensure progressive absorption of energy and optimised clearance from hard points in the engine compartment.
Aerodynamically-efficient: the most streamlined Land Rover
Velar’s aluminium-intensive form is not just light and stiff: it’s also exceptionally streamlined. Close collaboration from the outset between the Design and Engineering teams, together with exhaustive computational fluid dynamics simulation and wind tunnel testing, delivered a drag coefficient from just 0.32. This makes Velar the most aerodynamic Land Rover, and contributes significantly to its exceptional refinement and fuel efficiency.
Every last detail has been honed in order to let Velar pass through the air with minimal resistance: for example, even the ridge on the taillights has been designed induce clean separation of airflow from the bodysides, which in turn results in a cleaner wake structure and therefore reduce drag. Specially-designed air channels in the rear spoiler both cut drag and the accumulation of dirt on the rear screen – by up to 90 per cent.
Active vanes for the lower cooling aperture remain closed during the engines’ warm up phase, allowing it to reach operating temperature more quickly. But the vanes also close in conditions when additional cooling is no longer required – such as a steady-state cruise – which also reduces drag. Apertures in the front bumper direct air around the front wheels to reduce turbulence, contributing to further drag reductions.
The flow of air around the vehicle has been optimised in terms of lift too: as a result, the lift balance front-to-rear is an ideal 50:50, helping to further improve stability and steering feel at higher speeds, delivering even greater driver confidence.

Porsche is expanding the Panamera family with the addition of a new body style: The all-new Panamera Sport Turismo will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show (March 7 - 19, 2017).
Four different versions will be available for ordering in the U.S. at launch: Panamera 4, Panamera 4S, Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, and the Panamera Turbo. Based on the successful sports sedan, the new Panamera variants make a profound statement in the premium segment with their unmistakeable design.
At the same time, the Sport Turismo, with up to 550 hp, is one of the most versatile models in its class. With a large tailgate, low loading edge, increased luggage compartment volume and a 4+1 seating concept, the new Panamera model offers the perfect combination of everyday usability and maximum flexibility.

"For Porsche, the Panamera Sport Turismo is a step forward into a new segment, but retains all of those values and attributes that are characteristic of Porsche", says Michael Mauer, Director of Style Porsche.
From a technological perspective, the Sport Turismo is available with all of the innovations introduced with the brand new Panamera model line announced last year.
These include the digital Porsche Advanced Cockpit, the advanced assistance system Porsche InnoDrive, Porsche Communication Management (PCM), adaptive cruise control, and turbocharged powertrains.  Chassis systems such as Rear Axle Steering and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC Sport), the electronic roll stabilization system, are also available.
In addition, all Panamera Sport Turismo vehicles are equipped with Porsche Traction Management (PTM) — an active all-wheel drive system with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch, and adaptive air suspension with three-chamber technology as standard.
The design and concept of an all-round sports car
Just like the coupe-style Panamera sports sedan, the Sport Turismo is characterized by its very dynamic proportions — a reflection of the Porsche design DNA.
The vehicle is 198.8 inches long, 56.2 inches high and 76.3 inches wide, while the wheelbase spans 116.1 inches. The silhouette is further characterized by short body overhangs and large wheels measuring up to 21 inches.
Beginning from the B-pillars back, the Sport Turismo features a unique rear design. Above the pronounced shoulder, an elongated window line and equally long roof contour lend the vehicle its striking appearance.
At the rear, the roof drops away less dramatically than the window line, resulting in a prominent and distinctive D-pillar which transitions into the shoulder section in a coupe-like fashion.
First adaptively extendible roof spoiler
At the top of the vehicle, the roof extends into an adaptive spoiler. The angle of the roof spoiler is set in three stages depending on the driving situation and selected vehicle settings, and can generate an additional downforce of up to 110 lbs. on the rear axle.
In normal driving, the aerodynamic guide element — a central system component of the Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) — stays in its retracted position with an angle of minus seven degrees, which reduces drag and thus optimizes fuel consumption.
At track speeds, the roof spoiler automatically moves to the performance position with an angle of plus one degree, thereby increasing driving stability and lateral dynamics. When in the Sport and Sport Plus driving modes, the roof spoiler automatically moves to the performance position at speeds in excess of 55 miles per hour.
PAA also provides active assistance by adapting the roof spoiler's angle of inclination to plus 26 degrees when the panoramic sliding roof is open at speeds above 55 mph. In this case, the spoiler helps to minimize wind noise.
Redesigned rear compartment
The new Sport Turismo is the first Panamera to feature rear seating for three passengers.
The two outer seats take the form of individual seats — in keeping with the model line's reputation for sporty performance with maximum passenger comfort — thereby producing a 2+1 configuration in the rear.
As an option, the Panamera Sport Turismo is also available in a four-seat configuration with two electrically adjustable individual seats in the back.
The raised roof line of the Sport Turismo allows for easy entry and exit at the rear of the vehicle and offers excellent head clearance. The usability of the luggage compartment benefits from the wide opening tailgate and a loading edge height of just 24.7 inches.
Measured to the upper edge of the rear seats, the  18.4 cu.ft storage capacity of the Sport Turismo (Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Sport Turismo: 15 cu.ft) betters that of the sports sedan by 0.7 cu.ft.
When loaded up to roof level and with the rear seats folded down, the gains amount to approximately 1.8 cu.ft (50 liters). The backrests of the three rear seats can be folded down together or individually (in a 40:20:40 split) and are unlocked electrically from the luggage compartment.
When all of the backrests are folded down, the loading floor is practically level. In this case, the storage volume is expanded to up to 49 cu.ft (1,390 liters) (Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Sport Turismo: 45.7 cu.ft).
A luggage compartment management system is available as an option for the Panamera Sport Turismo models. Among other things, this variable system includes two rails integrated in the loading floor, four tie-down points, and a luggage compartment partition net.
Four engines at market launch
The Panamera Sport Turismo models will be available with the four engines launching with the sports sedan, and they consequently maintain the same 0 to 60 acceleration figures.
The Panamera 4 Sport Turismo is powered by a 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 generating 330 hp, and it will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds with launch control. The Panamera 4S Sport Turismo reaches 60 mph (with launch control) in 4.0 seconds and is powered by a 2.9 liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine.
The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Sport Turismo is powered by the same combustion engine as in the 4S, and it has an additional 136 hp electric motor which in combination propel it from 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds.
The Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo reaches 60 (with launch control) in 3.4 seconds and is powered by a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 generating 550 hp.
Availability and pricing
The MY18 Panamera Sport Turismo models are expected to arrive in the United States at the end of 2017.
Prices will start at $96,200 for the Panamera 4 Sport Turismo, $104,000  for the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Sport Turismo, $109,200 for the Panamera 4S Sport Turismo, and $154,000 for the Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo, excluding the $1,050 delivery, processing, and handling fee.

Ford’s motorsport heritage
Performance and racing are deeply embedded in Ford’s DNA, dating back 116 years when Henry Ford won the Sweepstakes Race with his “999” race car, defeating Alexander Winton – at the time America’s greatest racer.
Ford is showcasing more than five decades of the company’s motorsports and performance history in Geneva with vehicles from the Ford Heritage Collection including:
  • A replica of the 1966 Ford GT40 Mk2 race car – powered by a 7.0-litre V8 engine –  driven to victory by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon at the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours
  • A replica of the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally-winning Ford Escort Mk1, rebuilt with a 1.8-litre Ford Cosworth BDA engine delivering approximately 200 PS, and driven to victory in a 1995 re-run of the iconic 1970 rally by the original winning team of Hannu Mikkola and co-driver Gunnar Palm
  • A 1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth homologated road car version of the Ford Escort World Rally Championship Group A rally car, featuring a 230 PS 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and four-wheel drive
Ford this year also celebrates 50 years since the introduction of the Ford Cosworth DFV (double-four-valve) V8 racing engine that delivered 155 race wins and 12 driver’s titles in Formula 1 racing across 15 years, and two victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours – including for the 1975 Mirage GR8 race car on show in Geneva.
Light, compact and powerful – the all-aluminium, 3.0-litre engine was designed to function as part of a race car’s chassis, featured four valves per cylinder and two camshafts per cylinder bank.
The spirit of innovation that delivered the Ford Cosworth DFV engine is reflected 50 years later in Ford’s EcoBoost engines – from the all-new new three-cylinder 1.5-litre EcoBoost to the twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 EcoBoost engine that powered the Ford GT race car to victory at Le Mans in 2016.
“Motorsport has always been a driver of innovation at Ford,” said Dave Pericak, Ford Performance global director. “Today, our global Ford Performance team is responsible for developing vehicles from the Ford GT race car to the next generation Fiesta ST. Working as one unified team helps us better deliver our core fun-to-drive experience and democratise sophisticated performance-enhancing features for every customer.”

  • Very rare, twin-engine, four-wheel drive 1965 Citroen 2CV Sahara for auction
  • Believed to be one of only 100 left, this example has crossed the Sahara desert twice
  • To be auctioned with a sale estimate of £60,000 to £65,000 at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show Sale on 1st – 2nd April at the NEC, Birmingham.
Classic Car Auctions (CCA) has consigned a rare 1965 Citroen 2CV Sahara with an unusual, globetrotting past to its biggest ever sale taking place at the NEC, Birmingham.
This particular example was delivered to Nigeria in December 1965 and first registered to an Englishman working as an anthropologist at the Ahmadu Bello University of federal government research in Zaria.
Allegedly, he chose the car for travelling to remote villages because he found that if he used a Land Rover he was regarded as being a Government inspector, whereas the charming Citroen was seen as far more friendly.

When the Nigerian Civil War broke out in 1967, he set about making arrangements to return home. He looked no further than his trusty 2CV. He then began an amazing journey back to the UK driving an incredible 1,000 plus miles across the Sahara desert, loaded with as much fuel and water as possible, enduring sandstorms and even a broken hydraulic pipe on the journey. Built especially to cope with difficult terrain and climate, the car proved to be the perfect companion.
Returning to Nigeria after two years, the car made its second arduous journey across the Sahara. It was later sold to its second owner in the 1970s, a doctor of medicine also at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital.
In 1980, the car and its original owner were reunited. Returning to visit Nigeria he found the car barely used and practically abandoned, so decided to have it flown back to the UK for repairs.
It was registered in the UK in March 1981, but sadly plans to restore the car were never realised due to the lack of availability of spare parts. The car was then sold to its third and current owner soon after. Finally, 47 years after its delivery to Nigeria, the car was subjected to a full body-off restoration here in the UK in 2012.
It appears today with its distinctive red seating, removable rear bench, full length folding roof and original rear engine, and an auction guide price of £60,000 to £65,000.
The car is number 657 of only 694 examples of one of the more unusual of the many 2CV variants built. Featuring one engine to power the front wheels and a second to drive the rear, twin fuel tanks located beneath the front seats and countless other modifications, the cars were intended for use by the French colonies in Northern Africa.
“There are believed to be less than 100 examples left of these unusual 2CVs, maybe 30 of which are in running condition, making this a truly rare vehicle,” explains Nigel Gough, classic car specialist, CCA.
“Not only is it a rare 2CV, but also has a unique past and fascinating story, one that will certainly appeal to collectors. With such limited numbers these models are now internationally sought after, and have achieved some seriously high prices at auction. This one will definitely get people talking,” concludes Nigel.
The car will be supplied with its original front engine, replacement crankshaft and crankcase halves, as well as the original registration document from Nigeria, several photos of the car during its trip across the Sahara desert, French language 2CV Sahara and period English language 2CV brochure and owner’s manual.

  • ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK with new exterior design
  • Bi-xenon lights and LED technology available
  • Newly designed interior with modified instrument optics
  • Connectivity - with WLAN hotspot on board ‘always online’ available
  • Efficient and sporty 1.0-TSI engines with three cylinders
  • Premiere at the International Motor Show in Geneva 2017
ŠKODA is enhancing the elegant and affordable family favourites ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK with numerous innovations. New lighting systems ensure even greater safety. Passengers are 'always online' thanks to an available WLAN hotspot.
The new programme includes two efficient 1.0-TSI engines with three cylinders. The upgraded models will be presented to the public for the first time at the Geneva International Motor Show (7 – 19 March, 2017).
Positioned between the ŠKODA FABIA and ŠKODA OCTAVIA, the ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK are in the class of compact cars and set the benchmark for space amongst the direct competition. Compact on the outside, they boast a tremendous amount of space on the inside.
Newly designed front and rear
The visual enhancement of the ŠKODA RAPID is particularly evident at the front. The modified fog lights shine in the newly designed lower part of the bumper. A narrow chrome strip (standard from SE L up) connects the lights and creates a wider-looking front end.
Black-tinted covers on the taillights in the distinctive C-shape (ŠKODA RAPID LED technology as an option) give the rear an even sportier look. The ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK SE Sport also features an extended rear window.
The wheels are available in new designs: COSTA wheel trims for the 15 inch wheels, EVORA (silver) and VIGO (silver / black metallic) for the 16 inch alloys, TRIUS (silver), and TORINO (black polished, for the Monte Carlo edition) 17 inch alloy wheels.
New intelligent lights
The main headlights of the ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK are now available with bi-xenon lights, the daytime running light uses LED technology. The Light Assistant completes the programme: It activates the daytime running light with the ignition.
A sensor then continually measures the light conditions and switches the headlights on or off automatically. This applies to both twilight and driving through tunnels.
A predetermined time for brightness can be set using the Coming Home and Leaving Home functions. The vehicle environment is illuminated so that the passengers can safely get in or out.
Finally, the high-beam assistant always ensures optimal illumination of the road. In the dark and at speeds above 37 mph, the sensor detects vehicles ahead (up to a distance of 400 meters), as well as on-coming traffic (up to 1,000 meters) and dims the lights as appropriate.
Benchmark for spaciousness
The interior of the upgraded ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK features many design changes. Firstly, new inlays have been added to the four doors. The air vents in the dashboard, the instruments and the control panel of the manual air-conditioning system have also been redesigned.
The compact exterior dimensions and the comparatively spacious interior make the ŠKODA RAPID (4.48 meters long, 1.71 meters wide, 1.46 meters high) and the ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK (4.30 meters long, 1.71 meters wide 1.46 meters high) extremely popular with families.
The interior seats up to five passengers. The headroom in the rear of the ŠKODA RAPID has a generous 972 millimetres (ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK: 980 millimetres), the legroom in both models is 65 millimetres. With a capacity of 550 litres (ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK: 415 litres), the boot volume of the ŠKODA RAPID sets the benchmark among the competition.
New: dynamic and efficient three-cylinder TSI engines
As part of the upgrade, a 1.0-litre TSI engine is now available for the ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK. Responsiveness and efficiency characterise the three-cylinder, which is available in two power levels:
ŠKODA RAPID
1.0 TSI with 95 PS, top speed of 116 mph, 0 – 62 mph in 11,0 sec., combined fuel consumption 64.2 mpg, CO2101 g/km
1.0 TSI with 110 PS, top speed of 124 mph, 0 – 62 mph in 9,8 sec., combined fuel consumption 62.8 mpg, CO2104 g/km.
ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK
1.0 TSI with 95 PS, top speed of 114 mph, 0 – 62 mph in 11,0 sec., combined fuel consumption 64.2 mpg, CO2101 g/km
1.0 TSI with 110 PS, top speed of  123 mph, 0 – 62 mph in 9,8 sec., combined fuel consumption 62.8 mpg, CO2104 g/km.
The new petrol engine combines numerous advantages: Thanks to the compact design and the aluminium crankcase, it weighs ten kilograms less than the 1.2-litre unit used previously, and runs particularly quietly.
On account of the low free-inertia forces, a balance shaft, which would otherwise be used in a three-cylinder, is not required. This reduces the weight and helps to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
The oil pump achieves the same effect with a flow-adjustable output; the required oil pressure is continuously adapted to the engine load. The intercooler turbocharger is integrated into the intake manifold, which means that the charge pressure spontaneously builds up.
In addition to the two 1.0 TSI, three other engines are available for the ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK. All powertrains are equipped with brake energy recovery, a start-stop system and meet the EU6 emission standard.
The diesel engines operate with direct common-rail injection and diesel particulate filters. The following are available:
ŠKODA RAPID
1.4 TSI with 125 PS, top speed of 129 mph, 0 – 62 mph in 9,0 sec., combined fuel consumption 58.8mpg, CO2114 g/km.
1.4 TDI with 90 PS, top speed of 114 mph, 0 – 62 mph in 11,7 sec., combined fuel consumption 72.4 mpg, CO2101 g/km.
1.6 TDI with 115 PS, top speed of 125 mph, 0 – 62 mph in 10,0 sec., combined fuel consumption 74.3 mpg, CO2 109 g/km.
ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK
1.4 TDI with 90 PS, top speed of 113 mph, 0 – 62 mph in 11,6 sec., combined fuel consumption 72.4 mpg, CO2101 g/km.
1.6 TDI with 116 PS, top speed of 123 mph, 0 – 62 mph in 9,9 sec., combined fuel consumption 74.3 mpg, CO2109 g/km.
ŠKODA Connect - WLAN hotspot and help at the touch of a button
The new optional ŠKODA Connect services consist of Infotainment Online and CareConnect services. Infotainment Online is the online traffic information, which transmits the traffic flow on the selected route in real time and suggests a traffic jam route, and is available with Amundsen satellite-navigation. Other available information consists of fuel stations including current fuel prices, parking spaces, current news and weather.
CareConnect services support the driver in many situations, and are available for all equipment variants and the Amundsen and Swing infotainment systems. The data is transferred via a permanently integrated SIM card. The offer includes the automatic emergency call, which can be used to establish a connection to an emergency call centre or operated manually even after a restraint system has been triggered.
The CareConnect services also include a breakdown call function, which can be used to arrange help when needed or answer questions on vehicle technology, and the Proactive Service. This makes it possible to transfer maintenance-relevant vehicle data to the ŠKODA workshop in good time before a service.
Via the ŠKODA Connect app on the smartphone, at any time the driver can remotely access vehicle information, find out whether the windows, doors or sunroof are closed, and view the fuel gauge of the ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK.
In addition, it is possible to send navigation information to the car and display the current parking position of the vehicle on the smartphone.
The music and navigation systems of the ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK are based on the second-generation modular infotainment kit. Features such as the ŠKODA surround system, Bluetooth hands-free kit and an Apple-compatible USB port come as standard or are available as options.
The smartphone interface SmartLink+, which supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLinkTM and SmartGate standards, can also be used with the ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK display.
Comprehensive active and passive safety
The ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK continue to feature a wide range of safety systems: The electronic stabilization control ESC and a continual tyre-pressure monitoring, for example, come as standard.
They also feature the multi-collision brake, which, in the event of an accident, reduces the risk of multiple collisions by preventing the continuous rolling of the vehicle. The trailer-stabilisation programme expands the electronic stabilization control.
Modern assistance systems, such as fatigue detection and Front Assist, including city emergency braking function, are also available for both models.
Optional features, such as fog lamps with integrated cornering light and Hill-Climb Assist increase the active safety level. The park distance control for front and rear ensures comfort and safety.
The passive safety systems protect the occupants in the event of an impact, with six airbags in the front, side and head area, as well as height-adjustable three-point safety belts with belt tensioners as standard. KESSY provides even more comfort.
The abbreviation stands for the keyless entry and start-stop system. By touching the sensor on the door handle, the vehicle unlocks or locks automatically. The ‘Start/Stop Engine’ button starts or stops the engine.
'Simply Clever': two additional USB ports in the rear
ŠKODA is known for its numerous 'Simply Clever' solutions. Ideas that make passengers' journey on board even more enjoyable. The new additions to the upgraded ŠKODA RAPID and ŠKODA RAPID SPACEBACK include the option of two USB ports in the back, which can be used to charge smartphones or other small mobile devices.
Furthermore, the following practical details can be found in the vehicle (standard or optional): ice scraper in the fuel tank cover, boot mat – one side carpet, the other rubber, a holder for the hi-viz vest under the driver's seat, umbrella in the compartment under the passenger seat, portable waste container, USB port and multimedia holders in the centre console, ticket holder on the windshield, various cup holders, nets on the reverse of the front seats and a net programme for the boot.

  • Alfa Romeo launches the all-new Stelvio; the marque’s first SUV in more than a century
  • Alfa Romeo has revealed three new Stelvio models set to go on sale in the UK: Stelvio, Stelvio Super and Stelvio Tecnica
  • UK pricing and spec will be confirmed closer to the launch date
Alfa Romeo has launched its first SUV in more than 100 years: the All-New Stelvio. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio comes hot on the heels of the exclusive ‘first edition’ and the range-topping Quadrifoglio, seen for the first time at LA Auto Show.
Available in three trim levels - Stelvio, Stelvio Super and Stelvio Tecnica – it will initially be available with a choice of a 280hp 2.0-litre Turbocharged petrol or a 210hp 2.2-litre Diesel engine, both combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission and Q4 all-wheel drive.
Trim levels
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio version is lavishly equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, 8.8-inch Alfa Connect, Alfa D.N.A Rotary selector, 8-speaker audio system, black fabric seats (front with sliding, reclining and height adjustments), Integrated Brake System (IBS), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) with Autonomous Emergency Brake (AEB) and pedestrian detection. This version also includes parking sensors, cruise control, electric tailgate and dusk and rain sensors.
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Super version builds on this with additional interior and exterior features: 18-inch alloy wheels, techno-leather and fabric seats in a choice of three colours (black, black/brown and black/red), and three options for the dashboard and door panels (black, black/brown or black/red) and door sills with steel inserts.
An additional Luxury Pack and Sports Pack are also available to customers looking to go the extra mile. Alfa Romeo Stelvio Super’s Luxury Pack includes full grain leather seats (in black, brown, red or beige) with electrical adjustment and heating system, as well as real wood inserts. The Sport Pack comes with heated sports steering wheel, specific grip and leather wrapping, racing-style leather seats in black, red or brown, with electric adjustment and heating system, aluminium inserts and steel pedals.
The introduction of Alfa Romeo Stelvio Tecnica offers a strong proposition to fleet, corporate and professional customers. Exclusively available with the Diesel engine, it features the 8.8-inch Alfa Connect 3D Nav, Bi-Xenon headlights with AFS and electric folding mirrors.
Outstanding performance
Built in Italy at the Termoli (petrol) and Pratola Serra (Diesel) plants, in areas assigned only to Alfa Romeo engines, with state-of-the-art processes and methods that put them at the top of their class in terms of performance and fuel economy, are the engines housed under the bonnet of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. The 280hp 2.0-litre Turbocharged petrol and the 210hp 2.2-litre Diesel engines are combined with an automatic 8-speed transmission and Q4 all-wheel drive.
The new 2.0-litre Turbocharged petrol engine, offering 280hp, is a 4-cylinder unit built entirely of aluminium with carbon drive shaft, combined with the automatic 8-speed transmission and Q4 all-wheel drive. In addition to electro-hydraulic valve actuation, the distinctive features of this engine include "2-in-1" turbo and 200-bar high-pressure direct injection which pair up to deliver a full-throttle response across the rev range in addition to first-class fuel-efficiency. This results in a peak torque of 400Nm at 2,250 rpm and offers best in class acceleration, going from zero to 62mph in just 5.7 seconds and onto a top speed of 143mph.
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio will also be available with a 2.2-litre Diesel engine – available with two power outputs: 210hp at launch and 180hp following shortly after. It is the first Diesel engine in Alfa Romeo's history to be constructed entirely in aluminium. This in-line four cylinders engine features the latest-generation injection system with Injection Rate Shaping (IRS) and operating pressures of 2,000-bar. The electrically-operated variable geometry turbocharger offers state-of-the-art mechanics and a turbocharger speed sensor to minimises response times and improves efficiency. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio 210hp 2.2-litre Diesel reaches a top speed of 133mph and accelerates from zero to 62mph in 6.6 seconds.
Both Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV engines are teamed with the ZF automatic 8-speed transmission, specifically calibrated for fast, smooth gear shifts.  The automatic transmission work with the Alfa D.N.A selector to optimise fluidity, comfort and ease of driving in all environments and helps to further improve fuel economy and CO2 emissions. Steering-column-mounted, aluminium paddle shifters are also available.
Exciting handling
Inspired by Italy’s highest mountain pass – an epic 20 kilometre driving route with more than 75 hairpins – the Alfa Romeo Stelvio has been built to offer an engaging driving experience while still maintaining the driver’s comfort.
The new SUV boasts handling worthy of a sports car with exclusive AlfalinkTM technology – the most direct steering ratio in the segment and state-of-the-art suspension. Combined with ultra-lightweight, hi-tech materials, such as carbon fibre for the drive shaft and aluminium for the engines, suspension systems, hood, wings, doors and the tailgate, the car can boast sector leading handling and the Alfa Romeo Q4 all-wheel drive system.
Driving comfort has been optimised though the perfect weight distribution between the two axles – a distinctive feature of Alfa Romeo’s. Managing the weights and materials, including adjusting the car's layout by placing the heaviest units in the most central positions, have helped achieve this 50/50 weight distribution. Light-weight materials reduce the SUV's total weight and provide excellent torsional rigidity, a quiet ride and exceptional handling even in extreme conditions.
A new double wishbone suspension with a semi-virtual steering axis, optimising the filtering effect and guaranteeing rapid, accurate steering, was developed for the front suspension. The rear suspension uses a four-and-a-half link system – patented by Alfa Romeo – to deliver extremely precise control of the wheel's characteristic angles.  The Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV has the most direct steering ratio in its segment delivering a natural, instinctive feel.
Thanks to the Q4 all-wheel drive system, with rear-wheel-drive bias, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is capable of conquering a mountain hairpin, gravel track or snow-covered roads.  Its architecture includes an active transfer case and front differential designed to give rapid-response management of high torque levels and a compact, lightweight set-up. The Q4 system continuously monitors numerous parameters to optimise torque distribution between the two axles according to what the car is doing and how much grip the road surface offers. In normal grip conditions the Alfa Romeo Stelvio acts like a rear-wheel-drive vehicle with 100% of the torque sent to the rear axle. As the wheels approach their grip limit the system transfers up to 50 per cent of the torque to the front axle. This translates into best-in-class control in terms of traction and directional stability on corners.
An optional mechanical self-locking rear differential transfers more torque to the wheel with most grip to optimise the car’s traction in any driving conditions.
Alfa Romeo sporty design
The history of Alfa Romeo is evident in the striking, yet simple, design of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Three key Ingredients of Alfa Romeo design are visible in the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio’s exterior: proportion, simplicity and top-quality surfacing.
From the legendary cloverleaf at the front end, its compact proportions develop towards the rear and end on a steeply raked rear hatch. Finished with a spoiler, for maximum aerodynamic performance, and two exhaust tips that bring this sporty rear to life.
Inside the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the same sporty elegant imprint is apparent: simple, stylish and tailored like a bespoke suit. Hours of painstaking craftsmanship means the car is jam-packed full of premium materials including full-grain leather, real wood and fabrics carefully chosen for their look and feel.
On-board comfort and wellbeing for driver and passenger
Despite a real focus on styling – both inside and out – the practical layout of the car means the driver is central to everything. This is underlined by the diagonal tunnel, the slightly undulating dashboard and the small leather-wrapped steering wheel that adapts effectively to all driving styles.
The driving position and high seat gives complete command of the road, without compromising on the driving pleasure expected of a genuine Alfa Romeo sports car. The feeling of total control is reinforced by the large windows and the wraparound seats give an even sportier, cossetted driving experience.
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio guarantees the very best in terms of comfort and versatility in this sector. The 525-litre boot features a convenient electric tailgate that can be configured with eight different setup levels for optimal boot access.
Alfa Connect Infotainment system.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio is equipped with the Alfa Connect system – developed in partnership with Magneti Marelli – with the latest-generation HMI interface, which is controlled from the Rotary Pad and the display incorporated in the dashboard. The latest-generation infotainment system not only controls the DAB digital radio but also provides a Bluetooth system for hands-free communication and playing audio from USB and smartphones devices.
The entire range is supplied as standard with an 8.8" display with optional Connect 3D Nav 8.8” which supplies navigation with high-resolution 3D maps and high-speed route calculation. The system is also available without a GPS signal thanks to the Dead Reckoning technology, TomTom map updating from the USB port, driving style information and Alfa D.N.A. mode.
A sophisticated audio system featuring eight speakers (four woofers and four tweeters) is standard across the range. 10 speakers (four woofers, four tweeters, a mid-range and a subwoofer in the boot), and a 14 speaker Harman Kardon system (four woofers, four tweeters, five mid-ranges and a subwoofer) are also optionally available.
Alfa D.N.A
Alfa Romeo Stelvio features the new Alfa D.N.A selector, which allows the driver to modify the car's dynamic behaviour with three modes: Dynamic, Natural and Advanced Efficiency (new energy-saving mode).
Dynamic mode accentuates performance and reactive handling. The steering response becomes more precise, braking is more immediate and the electronic control systems do not interfere with the pleasure of sports-style driving. Natural mode is ideal for urban and motorway driving; handling is tailored for comfort and fuel economy. And finally, the new Advanced Efficiency maximises energy saving and minimises emissions levels.
Unbeatable safety and innovative engineering
The new Alfa Romeo SUV is the world's first car in its segment to offer the new electromechanical system that combines stability control with a traditional servo brake. With its combination of electronics and mechanics, this system not only cuts weights, gives an excellent driving "feel" and eliminates pedal vibration but also guarantees instant brake response, meaning a much shorter braking distance.
A whole host of safety systems are standard on the Alfa Romeo Stelvio including Forward Collision Warning (FCW) with Autonomous Emergency Brake (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross-Path Detection and Active Cruise Control.

Superior on-road driving dynamics
FCA’s “small wide architecture,” a fully independent suspension, segment-exclusive frequency damping front-and-rear-strut system, and precise electric power steering combine to deliver superior on-road driving dynamics in the all-new 2017 Jeep Compass.

Compass boasts a rigid foundation. The upper body structure and frame are engineered as a single unit for a stiff and more mass-efficient structure, and it is designed and built with an extensive use of high-strength steel and liberal use of structural adhesives.

More than 65 percent high-strength steel is used for maximizing vehicle dynamics and crash performance while optimizing weight efficiency.

Advanced fuel-efficient powertrains
A total of five engines – three gasoline and two diesel – will be offered, depending on the market worldwide. In North America, the proven, fuel-efficient 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder engine will power the Compass, delivering best-in-class 4x4 highway fuel economy of 31 mpg when paired with the six-speed manual transmission.

2.4-liter Tigershark engine with MultiAir2
Efficiency and refinement also are hallmarks of FCA‘s 16-valve, 2.4-liter Tigershark I-4 engine with the MultiAir2 electro-hydraulic, fully variable valve-actuation system. The advanced technology engine produces 180 horsepower, 175 lb.-ft. of torque and is mated to the choice of three transmissions in North America:

  • Class-exclusive nine-speed automatic transmission for 4x4 models

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will compete in the C-SUV segment and will appeal to style-conscious drivers its sharp coupé looks and muscular SUV stance, as well as its advanced levels of connectivity and all-wheel control technology which delivers an enjoyable, reassuring feel that elevates the driving experience.
Characteristic Dynamic Design
The distinctly sharp and dynamic Mitsubishi SUV coupe form is distinguished by its wedge profile with distinctive beltline and strong character line; a forward raked rear window; the sharply cut off rear gate and short overhang; and muscular wings that contribute to an athletic appearance.
The front design of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross features MMC’s trademark Dynamic Shield concept, which refers to the protective shield shape visually formed by the black central area and highlighted by bold brightwork on either side of the grill. Distinctive auxiliary lamps are recessed deep in the front fascia adding drama and sophistication to the SUV’s front-on appearance.
The rear design is distinguished its high-mounted, stretched rear lamps which divides the rear window into distinctive upper and lower segments. When illuminated, the tubular LED brake lights and the central LED hi-mount stop light form a single bar of light running across the tail, giving Eclipse Cross a broad and unmistakable appearance from the rear.
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross also heralds the arrival of a new red body colour. The standard coating is layered with semi-transparent red and clear coating, and this creates high levels of colour saturation with a highly-refined finish.
Inside, the new SUV’s dashboard is shaped using horizontal lines, with silver metal frames and a black and silver monotone color scheme helping create a sense of refinement that is both dynamic and sporty. With its table-like infotainment display and new Head Up Display, the futuristic cockpit inspires a sense of excitement for the driver. For maximum comfort and flexibility, the rear seat features a 60:40 split with long slide-and-recline adjustment.

The Eclipse Cross is fitted with the Smartphone Link Display Audio system, a Touchpad Controller and Head Up Display. Together they allow the driver to access different types of information conveniently and safely.
Smartphone Link Display Audio supports Apple CarPlay*1, the smarter, safer way to use your iPhone*1 in the car. The driver can use Siri*4 or the Smartphone Link Display Audio’s touch screen to receive directions optimised for traffic conditions, make and receive calls, access text messages, and listen to music, all in a way that allows them to stay focused on the road. Smartphone Link Display Audio also supports the Android AutoTM*2 which provides voice-controlled operation of Google MapsTM,*2 Google PlayTM*4 music and other apps. The Touchpad Controller can operate audio functions like radio, as well as Apple CarPlay.
Placing the Touchpad Controller in the centre console allows the driver to easily operate the Smartphone Link Display Audio.
The Head Up Display unit makes driving safer by presenting vehicle speed, data from the active safety systems and other necessary information that minimises eye movement and provides instant readability.
Enjoyable and stable driving dynamics with all-wheel control technology
Eclipse Cross uses an electronically-controlled 4WD system that feeds the optimum amount of torque to the rear wheels depending on the driving situation and the road surface. MMC’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) integrated vehicle dynamics control system incorporates brake-activated AYC*3.
The addition of a three-point strut tower brace at the front and the strategic use of structural bonding at the rear in particular have increased body rigidity. The stronger body and detail optimisation of the suspension ensure precise handling and superior vehicle stability.
Eclipse Cross offers two powertrains that deliver an outstanding balance of power, performance and efficiency. The new 1.5-litre direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine is available with a new CVT transmission with 8-speed Sport Mode manual override, while MMC’s proven 2.2-litre common rail direct-injection turbocharged diesel engine is modified specifically for Eclipse Cross is fitted with a new 8-speed automatic transmission.

Volvo not only launches the All-New XC60 at Geneva, but it launches new driver safety systems as well.

Volvo Cars, the premium car maker, has announced that the new XC60 SUV – which will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show – will feature three new advanced driver-assistance features aimed at keeping the driver out of trouble.
The new safety features are designed to provide the driver with automatic steering assistance or support – when required – to help avoid potential collisions. Volvo believes that these new features will make the new XC60 one of the safest cars on the road.

“We have been working with collision-avoidance systems for many years and we can see how effective they are. In Sweden alone we have seen a decline of around 45 per cent* in rear-end frontal crashes thanks to our Collision Warning with Autobrake system. With the XC60 we are determined to take the next step in reducing avoidable collisions, with the addition of steering support and assistance systems,” said Malin Ekholm, Senior Director, Volvo Cars’ Safety Centre.
City Safety has been updated in the XC60 to include steering support, which engages when automatic braking alone would not help avoid a potential collision. In such circumstances, the car will provide steering assistance to avoid the obstacle ahead. City Safety helps to avoid collisions with vehicles, pedestrians and large animals. Steering support is active between 50-100 km/h.
Volvo Cars has also added a system called Oncoming Lane Mitigation, which helps drivers to avoid collisions with vehicles in an oncoming lane. The system works by alerting a driver who has unwittingly wandered out of a lane by providing automatic steering assistance, guiding them back into their own lane and out of the path of any oncoming vehicle. This system is active between 60-140 km/h.
Volvo Cars’ optional Blind Spot Information System, which alerts drivers to the presence of vehicles in their blind spot, has also received an update to include steer assist functionality that helps to avoid potential collisions with vehicles in a blind spot by steering the car back into its own lane and away from danger.
“All three of these new features represent clear steps in our work towards fully autonomous cars,” added Malin Ekholm. “We have all of the benefits of the safety technology we introduced in our larger 90 series cars in the new XC60. This is fully in-line with our strategic approach to develop automotive safety systems based on real-life, real-road safety. Our vision is that no one will be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car by the year 2020.”
The XC60 will deliver a host of high-end safety systems, just like its larger 90 series siblings, including Large Animal Detection, Run-off Road Mitigation and the semi-autonomous driver support and convenience system, Pilot Assist, as an option.
The new Volvo XC60 will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show.
* Collision Warning with Autobrake is a part of the City Safety system. The 45% reduction in rear-end frontal crashes in Sweden relates to cars equipped with the third generation of this technology.
