  • Sustainability and performance - no contradiction for Porsche

The Paris Motor Show will see Porsche unveil the next model in the all-new Panamera line: the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid with standard all-wheel drive and an electric range of up to 31 miles (50 km).
The plug-in hybrid vehicle generates 462 hp of total system output and delivers impressive fuel consumption of 2.5 l/100 km, which corresponds to only 56 g/km of CO2 emissions. All figures to date are based upon the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).

Performance Hybrid

At Porsche, the term "hybrid" is synonymous with sustainable mobility and performance – most recently displayed with the back-to-back victories of the Porsche 919 Hybrid in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015 and 2016. This philosophy is now also defining the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.

The new Porsche plug-in hybrid always starts in electric mode and continues as a zero-emission vehicle with a maximum all-electric range of 31 miles and a maximum speed on battery power of 86 mph.
And yet, this Panamera is still a sports car among luxury sedans: the all-wheel drive four-door Porsche achieves a top track speed of 172 mph and delivers a total system torque of 516 pound-feet without hesitation.
The torque is transferred to all four wheels, while the standard three-chamber air suspension ensures an optimum balance between comfort and performance at all times. The newest plug-in hybrid sports sedan breaks the 0-60 barrier in just 4.4 seconds.
New hybrid strategy based on the Porsche 918 Spyder

The superlative performance is no accident: the new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid features a hybrid strategy never before seen in this segment – a strategy based on the
918 Spyder.

The 887-hp 918 Spyder is the fastest series-produced vehicle ever to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The record lap time of 6:57 minutes is in part attributed to the additional power provided by two electric motors.

As with the 918 Spyder, the power of the Panamera electric motor – 136 hp (100 kW) and 295 pound-feet of torque – is made available as soon as the driver touches the accelerator pedal.
On the predecessor model, the pedal needed to be pressed at least 80 percent of the way down to unleash the additional power of the electric drive's "E-Boost" mode.
Now, the electric motor is available to deliver additional power at any time. Together with the performance characteristics of the new 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 (330 hp and 331 lb.-ft.), this generates an impressive boost scenario based on the electric motor and turbochargers.
In the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, the electrical energy is also used to increase the car's top track speed. At Porsche, this new type of "E-Performance"– more power, more driving fun, lower fuel consumption – is seen as the performance kit of the future.
New hybrid module and fast-shifting eight-speed PDK

Together with the combustion engine decoupler, the electric motor heralds the next generation of the Porsche hybrid module. In contrast to the electro-hydraulic system of the previous model, the decoupler on the new Panamera is actuated electromechanically by an electric clutch actuator (ECA), resulting in even shorter response times.

Similar to the other second-generation Panamera models, a new, efficient, and extremely fast-shifting Porsche eight-speed Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission is used to transmit the power to the wheels. This transmission replaces the eight-speed automatic torque converter transmission in the previous model.
The electric motor is supplied with power via a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery. And despite the increase in energy content of the battery from 9.4 to 14.1 kWh (integrated under the luggage compartment floor), its weight has remained the same.
The high-voltage battery takes just 12 hours to fully charge via a common 120 V, 10 amp connection. If the optional 7.2 kW on-board charger is utilized instead of the standard 3.6 kW unit, the charging times decrease to under three hours with a 240 V, 40 amp connection.
The charging process can also be initiated using a timer via Porsche Communication Management (PCM) or the Porsche Car Connect app (for smartphones and Apple® Watches). Additionally, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid features standard auxiliary air conditioning which can cool or heat the passenger compartment during charging.
Porsche Advanced Cockpit with hybrid-specific displays

One highlight of the second-generation Panamera is the newly designed display and control concept in the form of the standard Porsche Advanced Cockpit with touch-sensitive panels and individually configurable displays.

Two seven-inch screens either side of the analog tachometer form the interactive cockpit, and in contrast to the other Panamera variants, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid features a power meter tailored to hybrid operation.

The intuitive operating principle of the hybrid-specific displays is similar to that used in the Porsche 918 Spyder hypercar. The power meter provides data such as the amount of electrical energy currently being used as well as the amount recovered through recuperation.

A 12.3-inch touchscreen functions as the centralized Porsche Communication Management (PCM) control and display unit. The driver can access various items of hybrid-specific information both here on the display and in the instrument cluster.
The boost assistant and hybrid assistant are both practical and informative. The former display shows the energy available for boosting, while the latter provides various visual signals for regulating the electrical drive power.
Ultimate efficiency in "Hybrid Auto" mode

The Sport Chrono Package, which integrates a mode switch into the steering wheel, forms part of the standard equipment on the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.

The mode switch and PCM are used to activate the various driving modes. These modes include the familiar "Sport" and "Sport Plus" modes from other Panamera models equipped with the Sport Chrono Package. The hybrid-specific modes are "E-Power,""Hybrid Auto,""E-Hold," and "E-Charge."

The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid always starts in "E-Power" which puts the powertrain in a pure electric mode. The "Hybrid Auto" mode is a completely new development which adjusts and combines the internal combustion and electric mode drive sources automatically for ultimate efficiency.
The "E-Hold" mode allows drivers to conserve the current state of charge of the lithium-ion battery. This will allow the driver to utilize electric mode (and therefore drive with zero emissions) in an environmental zone at their destination, for example.
In "E-Charge" mode, the battery is charged by the V6 engine; to achieve this, the gasoline engine generates a higher level of power than is needed for driving.
The highest level of drive performance is made available in the "Sport" and "Sport Plus" modes. The twin-turbo V6 remains active in these modes. In "Sport" mode, the battery charge is maintained at a level to ensure there is sufficient e-boost capability when needed.
Finally, "Sport Plus" mode is all about maximum performance and allows the Panamera to reach its top track speed of 172 mph. This mode also recharges the battery as quickly as possible with the help of the twin-turbo V6 engine, while also dipping deeper into the power reserves to ensure maximum e-boost is available.
Panamera 4 E-Hybrid availability and pricing

The new 2018 Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is expected to become available in North America by the summer 2017. Pricing will be announced at a later date.

  • All-electric, zero emission, city car supports Volkswagen’s e-mobility strategy
  • Stylish, practical new e-up! is priced at £20,780 (RRP OTR, incl. government grant)
Volkswagen’s highly praised new up! city car is now available to order in all-electric form as the new e-up! four seater joins the refreshed up! range in the UK.
Expanding on the extensive appeal of the new up!, which has already been roundly praised for its style, versatility and quality, the new e-up! builds on the standard car’s accomplished packaging with a zero emission solution.
With its 82 PS electric motor the e-up! boasts a peak torque figure of 210 Nm, equating to a brisk 0-62 mph time of 12.4 seconds and it will keep on going, where the law permits, to 80 mph.  The car boasts a maximum range of around 93 miles between charges.
This e-up!’s power derives from a lithium-ion battery pack located within the car’s floor and consisting of 204 cells, together rated at 374 volts and 18.7 kWh.

The motor is mated to a single-speed gearbox that is optimised for minimum friction.  The driveline is particularly quiet and compact as a result of the electric motor and the gearbox being integrated with very high quality intermeshing inside a single housing.
The battery weighs 230 kg but, despite this, the e-up! still weighs less than its internal combustion engined sibling, tipping the scales at 1,139 kg thanks to Volkswagen engineers’ extensive weight-saving measures.
The necessary variety of charging cables includes a fast charge connection which allows for up to 80 per cent of the battery’s capacity to be replenished in just 30 minutes.  Meanwhile, a full charge from a standard household plug takes nine hours.
Customers can purchase an optional wall box for home garage use, which provides a 3.6 kW supply and can recharge a battery in six hours.
Zero emission electric drive doesn’t mean compromising on comfort or convenience, either.  A strong line-up of factory-fitted equipment includes electronic air conditioning as standard, as well as cruise control and parking sensors.
The windscreen wipers function automatically, and when the sun goes down a dusk sensor automatically activates the headlights.
The new e-up! is available as a five-door, and fresh styling includes beefier front bumpers which house unique ‘C’ signature LED running lights that make the e-up! stand out from the crowd.
At the rear, a more angular bumper includes a prominent diffuser panel alongside a sharper tail light design.  The interior of the new e-up! features a leather-trimmed steering wheel, while chrome-trimmed interior door handles, air vent surrounds and instruments add a finishing flourish.
The new e-up! scores highly when it comes to bringing the online world into the cabin.  Like the new up! it features an innovative smartphone docking station which enables the driver’s phone to be turned into the car’s infotainment system.
Simply click the smartphone into the ‘Maps + More’ docking system on the centre console to unlock a host of features via the Volkswagen app.
The smartphone can be used to select and play music, or as a navigation system.  It can even display key data from the e-up!’s systems and tips from the Volkswagen Think Blue. Trainer - which coaches a driver in efficient driving techniques.
The smartphone connection is extended in the new e-up! thanks to Volkswagen’s Car-Net e-remote.  This gives the driver the power to manage the car’s charging process from their smartphone via the Volkswagen e-up! app.
They can also use the app to switch on their e-up!’s air conditioning remotely before getting in and review vehicle trip statistics, too.  A three-year subscription to the Car-Net e-remote service is included with the new e-up!.
The new e-up! is priced at £20,780 (RRP OTR) including the Government Plug-in Car Grant of £4,500.  Deliveries are expected to begin in October and the e-up! comes with a standard three-year warranty.
The vehicle’s battery comes with an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty, while the standard service interval is 20,000 miles or two years.
Currently, the e-up! is available from £275* per month via Volkswagen’s e-Solutions Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) scheme, with a £900 deposit contribution.  The deal is based on 6.4% APR representative, with full details available from Volkswagen Retailers.
The latest e-up! is a continuation of Volkswagen’s long history of electric mobility provision.  The first electric Golf, for instance, was launched fully 40 years ago, in 1976, badged as the CityStromer. Around 100 examples were built.
Now the e-up! joins the all-electric e-Golf in Volkswagen’s line-up of plug-in cars.  The Volkswagen range also includes the award-winning petrol-electric hybrid Golf GTE and Passat GTE models.
These four cars represent the start of a significant acceleration toward electro-mobility for Volkswagen.
The German manufacturer has stated, via its recently announced TOGETHER – Strategy 2025 programme, that it will introduce 30 additional electric or plug-in hybrid models by 2025.  And by that year Volkswagen expects purely battery-powered electric vehicles to account for a quarter of the global passenger car market.

With just 18 months to go until the introduction of mandatory in-car emergency call (eCall) systems for all new type approval vehicles sold within the European Union, MG Motor UK has confirmed its involvement as part of the CEN TC278/WG15 intelligent transport systems working group.
Through Guillaume Honore – Telematics Engineer at the SAIC Motor Technical Centre (SMTC), which is based at MG’s Longbridge site in Birmingham – the iconic British automotive marque will play a key role in the ongoing development of lifesaving eCall technologies across Europe.

As one of just sixty global members, only seven of whom are based in the UK, Guillaume will represent MG and the wider British automotive industry within the steering group, exchanging knowledge, best practice and industry experience, as well as consulting on the wider capabilities of in-car emergency technologies.
Alongside managing the preparation of standards in the run-up to eCall’s legislative roll-out across Britain, Guillaume will help to guide the integration of other state-of-the-art features into eCall capability, as well as work to identify additional benefits offered by cellular network connectivity.
Speaking about his involvement, Guillaume commented: “Being named as an expert within the CEN TC278/WG15 working group is a real honour.
“For MG, being part of the platform will help us to maintain our position as a forward-thinking automotive business, continually looking to identify new technologies and industry-leading capabilities.”
Matthew Cheyne, Head of Sales and Marketing at MG,added: “Introduced to improve safety and reduce emergency response times, eCall technology is a huge progression within the industry. Mandatory fitting will assist emergency services teams at the scene of an accident, helping to save the lives of countless motorists.
“Being involved in the EU steering group, through Guillaume’s expertise, is a significant achievement for MG, and one which will see us play a key role in the ongoing development of in-car technology standards.
“Guillaume has championed similar technology programmes for a number of other high-profile automotive manufacturers, making his experience and proficiency an invaluable asset. Bringing this knowledge to MG, while continuing his work as part of the group, is a huge opportunity for us to lead the way in technological capability, demonstrating our ambitions for the future.”
From March 2018, all new type approval cars sold within the European Union must be fitted with an approved eCall system. In the event of an accident, the system will transmit essential data – including type of vehicle, fuel used, time of accident and location – directly to the emergency services.
The European Commission estimates that, once eCall technology is implemented across the continent, hundreds of lives could be saved every year.

  • Slashes 0-60mph time to just 5.65 seconds
  • OEM Mazda electronic safety features are retained, as well as MOT emissions compliance and standard idle characteristics
  • Further optional upgrades enhance engine performance to 214 bhp and 183 lb.ft
  • Available now, with prices starting from £2195.00 excluding VAT
Leading automotive performance specialist BBR is delighted to launch an exciting engine tuning package for the latest ‘ND’ version of the 2.0-litre MX-5, which builds upon the success of the company’s existing Super 190 upgrade for the Mazda sportscar.
Designed to enhance the everyday driving experience for enthusiasts wanting the ultimate from their new MX-5, the upgrade represents the culmination of over two years of BBR’s in-house mechanical and electronic development work on Mazda’s advanced, direct-injection 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G engine, which despite producing 160bhp at 6300 rpm and 153 lb.ft at 4950 rpm as standard (when measured on BBR’s dyno) is noted for being unwilling to rev.

BBR’s ‘Super 200’ upgrade addresses this characteristic, significantly boosting peak power by 45 bhp to a mighty 205 bhp at 6950 rpm, allied to an impressive 179 lb.ft at 4950 rpm (a gain of 26 lb.ft). Crucially, where the stock engine is reluctant to attain higher revs, the BBR Super 200 equipped motor excels above 5500 rpm, offering intense, exhilarating performance and response all the way to the 7150 rpm limiter.
Initial performance testing indicates that (when fitted with the optional performance exhaust components) the 0-60 mph time is reduced from 7.3 seconds to a scorching 5.65, meaning that whatever the challenge the BBR Super 200 equipped Mazda MX-5 can really punch above its weight.
However, numbers only tell half of the story. Such is the quality of BBR’s development work that the power and torque output of the Super 200 equipped MX-5 exceeds that of the stock 2.0-litre Mazda throughout the rev range, providing an additional 30 lb.ft of torque at just 3500 rpm, making this a highly user-friendly conversion designed for everyday driving.
In detail, BBR’s Super 200 upgrade consists of exclusive, top quality high performance replacement billet steel intake and exhaust camshafts with upgraded valve springs and retainers, a bespoke 4 into 1 tuned length stainless steel exhaust manifold and a specially developed cold air intake system.
Electronically, the Super 200 benefits from BBR’s renowned StarChip ECU software package, which includes revised fuel, ignition and cam timing calibration designed to optimise driveability and performance across the rev range, whilst retaining all Mazda’s OEM fail safes.
Available now, the Super 200 package is priced at £2795.00 including installation at BBR’s Brackley premises by its qualified technicians and dyno power graph (A DIY version, including the ECU programming hardware is also available at £2195.00.)
For complete peace of mind BBR offers 12 to 36 month extendable warranty packages for Super 200 customers.
BBR ‘Super 200+’
Recognising that some MX-5 enthusiasts always desire additional performance, BBR now offers a selection of optional additional components that extract even more power from the car’s1998cc powerplant.
The addition of a 2.5 inch diameter high performance TIG welded stainless steel exhaust centre section (£495.00) allied to stainless steel 2.5 inch BBR silencers (£395.00) boosts peak power to 214 bhp and torque to a mighty 183 lb.ft and provides the ‘ND’ model of the MX-5 with an exhilarating soundtrack designed to electrify any drive. Two silencer options are available from BBR, a quieter GT option for customers who prefer a subtle more muted note, or a Supersport option delivering a no-compromises sportscar exhaust system.
For MX-5 2.0-litre owners wanting the ultimate in Skyactive-G normally aspirated engine tuning, BBR can supply a gasflowed cylinder head, reworked using a flowbench to optimise performance. On the dyno BBR has recorded over 225 bhp from this combination –price on application only.

On sale from the 1st October, the 2017 Mazda3 is offered with a choice of 105ps 1.5-litre or 150ps 2.2-litre SKYACTIV-D diesel engines, alongside a petrol line-up that includes 120ps and 165ps versions of the 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G.
Having added the smooth, frugal and sub 100g/km 1.5-litre SKYACTIV-D diesel engine to the Mazda3 last year, both this and the well-established 2.2-litre SKYACTIV-D engine now feature Transient Control, which ensures a more positive throttle response by reducing turbo lag and boosting torque to deliver a petrol-like engine feel.
Refinement has also been enhanced thanks to the introduction of Mazda’s Natural Sound Smoother (NSS) technology, which reduces knock noise during starting and low-speed acceleration on diesel engines.
Across the whole range, overall refinement has been substantially improved with added noise suppression material in the roof, doors, dashboard and transmission tunnel area.
Optimised door seals and additional vibration damping materials between the rear crossmembers further improve cabin comfort. In addition, revisions to theMacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension have focused on delivering improved ride comfort and reducing vibration, while at the same time enhancing the pin-sharp handling the Mazda3 is famed for.
The 2017 Mazda3 also features G-Vectoring Control (GVC), the first of Mazda’s SKYACTIV-VEHICLE DYNAMICS technologies. It varies engine torque to optimize wheel load to indiscernibly provide more precise handling and improved comfort.
Other technology highlights include the adaption of a full-colour display on the enhanced head–up display system, while for the first time the Mazda3 is offered with Adaptive LED headlights.^ On sale in the UK from the 1st October, the 2017 Mazda3 is priced from £17,595 to £24,195.

  • ›First ŠKODA OCTAVIA rolled off production line at newly constructed plant in Mladá Boleslav two decades ago
  • ›Modular vehicle design, advanced technology, high efficiency and ergonomics in OCTAVIA production
  • ›Production figures rose by more than a third within a year
  • ›ŠKODA OCTAVIA one of most successful model series in automotive world
  • ›Undisputed bestseller in traditional brand’s 121-year history with more than five million units sold

20 years ago, on 3 September 1996, former Czech President Vaclav Havel gave the starting signal for the production of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA in the newly opened part of the plant at the company's headquarters.

This also marked the beginning of a unique success story: Over the following two decades, the ŠKODA OCTAVIA became a worldwide bestseller and is still the best selling model of the brand from Mladá Boleslav. The popular compact car paved the way for ŠKODA’s success.

In February 1995 in Mladá Boleslav, the foundation stone for the new production line was laid, on which the first ŠKODA OCTAVIAs would be produced around 18 months later.

For the new series ŠKODA built a modern production line in a 32,000-square-meter hall. In addition, a total of 2,500 square meters of office space and 3,000 square meters of social areas were created. In March 1996, the new paint shop was completed, where up to 1,800 bodies of model series ŠKODA FELICIA and ŠKODA OCTAVIA would be painted every day.

On 3 September 1996, former President of the Czech Republic Václav Havel inaugurated the new plant and also officially gave the go-ahead for the series production of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA. “The plant is beautiful, modern, really pretty. It would be great if all factories looked like this.” – Havel’s words of praise at the opening ceremony.

The development of the completely new OCTAVIA model series began in 1992, approximately one year after the traditional Czech brand joined the Volkswagen Group. The ŠKODA OCTAVIA was based on a Group platform which was completely new at the time.

The robust body structure, which had been developed using the latest CAD (Computer Aided Design) technology, provided exemplary active and passive safety in combination with front airbags for driver and passenger. In addition, this was the first time that ŠKODA had offered the then new side airbags for the OCTAVIA.

With the clever liftback solution, the new compact featured an especially practical highlight: Thanks to the large tailgate of the hatchback model, customers benefited from excellent access to the 528-litre boot, which could be extended to as much as 1,328 litres by folding the rear seats down.

In 1996 – the first sales year – ŠKODA OCTAVIA customers could choose from two four-cylinder petrol engines or a turbodiesel drivetrain. In May 1998, the ŠKODA OCTAVIA COMBI extended the model range; from 1999 the estate version was also available with all-wheel drive.

The last vehicle from the first generation rolled off the production line in November 2010. Between September 1996 and November 2010 around 970,000 saloons and more than 470,000 estates were delivered.

The second-generation ŠKODA OCTAVIA seamlessly continued the success story of its predecessor: Between 2004 and 2013, 1.6 million customers opted for the saloon, 900,000 buyers chose the ŠKODA OCTAVIA estate.

The third generation of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA has been in production since November 2012. Today the bestseller is considered the heart of the brand and is extremely popular both as a family car and as a company vehicle.

Since the start of production of the first generation on September 3, 1996, more than five million ŠKODA OCTAVIAs have left the production halls.  In addition to the main plant in Mladá Boleslav the compact is also manufactured at the ŠKODA plants in China, India, Russia and Kazakhstan.

Hot on the heels of the Camaro SS exhaust announcement comes products for the Camaro V6 and four-cylinder derivatives
BORLA® Performance Industries, a pioneer and leader in the design and manufacture of stainless steel performance exhaust systems, has announced the introduction of new products designed exclusively for the latest generation Chevrolet Camaro.
The new exhaust systems were developed individually for the Camaro 3.6L V6 and 2.0L Turbo models, including models with the Chevrolet Dual Mode exhaust function, and they follow the recent introduction of performance exhaust systems for the Camaro SS 6.2L V8 model.

Designed from scratch at BORLA’s Research and Development Center in Oxnard, CA, and manufactured in the USA at its state-of-the-art facility in Johnson City, TN, BORLA drew on its extensive history of innovation to develop exhaust systems for all versions of the 2016 Camaro that offer an exciting sound, enhanced performance and great styling.
With today’s announcement, the new BORLA exhaust systems expand the impressive range of purpose-built performance products designed exclusively for the 2016 Camaro by focusing on the 3.6L V6 and the 2.0L Turbo models. As with all BORLA products, the new 2.25” diameter exhaust systems are designed to be drone-free, and made by hand from aerospace-grade, T-304 stainless steel for great durability.
PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
  • Designed specifically and individually for the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 3.6L V6 and 2.0L Turbo models
  • Manufactured from T-304 stainless steel for lasting durability
  • OE-standard, high-quality engineering and stainless steel construction allows BORLA Million Mile Warranty
  • Oversized exhaust tips available in two-tip and four-tip (Dual Mode) configurations

  • Drone-free muffler design reduces driver fatigue on long journeys
  • BORLA mufflers are available with valve technology to allow continued use of the Chevrolet Dual Mode exhaust function
Consistent with the entire line of BORLA exhaust systems, the new Camaro mufflers are available for a variety of applications. These include two- and four-tip rear sections, a Y-pipe center section, ATAK® and S-Type muffler technology, Performance and Touring mid-pipe options, plus muffler options with BORLA exhaust valves to allow continued used of the Chevrolet factory Dual Mode exhaust function. These different configurations give the car owner a fantastic array of options for both sound and budget.
The new exhaust systems offer both increased performance and sound over the stock system thanks to its less restrictive design. They can also be specified for models with or without the factory Dual Mode (NPP) exhaust valve function.
Cars fitted with the Dual Mode function can opt for ATAK or S-Type mufflers that incorporate BORLA’s own exhaust valve technology. This replaces the factory valves and allows owners to continue to enjoy the benefits of the Dual Mode button, with the ability to alter the noise level the car makes, albeit at a different volume thanks to the new BORLA mufflers.
Regardless of the spec of your Camaro V6 or four-cylinder Turbo, all owners can choose between the patented BORLA ATAK mufflers, with their full-blooded exhaust note that allows drivers to clearly hear and enjoy the performance of their car. The BORLA S-Type mufflers offer a more restrained exhaust note but still create a great sound and offer similar levels of performance increase.
A third option for owners of the 2.0L Turbo is the Touring Mid Pipe. This resonator can be fitted upstream of the mufflers to attenuate the sound and provide drivers with a milder output from either muffler option.
Further option in this modular exhaust concept include a Performance Mid Pipe for the Camaro V6 and 2.0L Turbo, as well as a Performance Down Pipe for the four-cylinder car, which is strictly for competition use only.

MARKET AND MODEL
  • New Mokka X in showrooms from October priced from £17,590 OTR
  • Diesel models start from £19,515 and give 20 per cent BiK
  • Powertrains achieve up to 72.4mpg combined and 152PS
The Mokka X builds on the popularity of the successful Mokka model, introducing a fresh interior and updated exterior design, as well as a new powertrain and featuring Vauxhall OnStar and Apple CarPlay.
Incorporating cues from Vauxhall’s new design philosophy, the new Mokka X will be the first model to introduce the “X” segment identifier for future Vauxhall SUV and crossover vehicles.

In the expanding compact SUV segment, Mokka has proven to be a hugely popular option, surpassing 120,000 sales in the UK since its launch. Last year it was in the top ten cars sold in the UK, and is currently 9th YTD. Appealing to retail and fleet buyers in equal volumes, the Mokka was number one in its segment in 2015, topping its class for fleet sales. This year it has strengthened its position as number one in its segment, outselling its rivals for both fleet and retail registrations.

Following a resurgence to the segment in recent years, including an impressive seven per cent growth from 2011 to 2012, the competitive compact SUV segment continues to grow and is now one of the largest in the UK. Compared to models such as the Nissan Juke, Nissan Qashqai, Renault Captur and Ford Kuga, the Vauxhall Mokka X provides an appealing alternative thanks to its bold, muscular new exterior, elegant interior, and cutting-edge connectivity.
The Mokka X’s bold new look is thanks to work carried out by a design team led by Brit Mark Adams. The elegantly sculpted front fascia gives the Mokka X a wider, more solid and muscular stance, while powerful and athletic lines at the rear and sides of the vehicle retain its sporty edge.
On the inside, the Mokka X has a completely new dashboard inspired by the new Astra. The revised instrument panel looks simpler, sharper and more precise in its execution. The centre stack has been redeveloped completely around the seven- and eight-inch touchscreens of the new generation infotainment systems. Now with fewer buttons, it has many functions that are accessible via the touchscreen.
The new Mokka X introduces a new powertrain to the segment, adding the 1.4-litre Direct Injection Turbo (152PS) petrol unit to the range, in addition to the much-lauded 1.6-litre ‘Whisper Diesel’ engine introduced last year. The 1.4-litre Turbo is available with manual or six-speed automatic transmission, as well as adaptive all-wheel drive and start/stop. The petrol engine can achieve up to 47.1mpg combined and CO2 emissions of 140g/km.
With an electromagnetic multi-plate clutch, the all-wheel drive technology is clever and efficient. The front-wheel drive only or all-wheel drive settings adapt automatically based on the road conditions, benefitting fuel consumption without affecting the driving experience.
In addition to the AWD system, Vauxhall engineers have made more innovative technology available to a broad group of customers by introducing LED Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) headlamps.
The new AFL LED system adapts the headlights’ lighting patterns automatically to the driving situation to give the best possible light performance without dazzling other road users. It features nine different functions, with the new LED system replacing the previous BiXenon AFL. LED technology features a light quality that allows seeing the ‘true’ colours of things, to the benefit of visual comfort, while it is more reliable, faster and more accurate in its reaction.
The new Mokka X will be available with the personal connectivity and service assistant, OnStar, from launch. OnStar offers customers a broad range of safety and comfort services, including access to a trained advisor 24/7, 365 days a year. In the event of the airbags deploying, OnStar automatically connects the vehicle to an advisor to establish if the emergency services are required. If there is no response, emergency responders are immediately sent to the exact location of the vehicle.
OnStar also turns the Mokka X into a 4G LTE mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing up to seven devices, from smartphones to tablets, to be connected simultaneously.
In addition, two versions of the new generation IntelliLink infotainment system will make their debut in the Mokka X. R 4.0 IntelliLink and NAVI 900 IntelliLink bring the world of smartphones to the car via both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone projection.

CHASSIS, POWERTRAIN AND TECHNOLOGY

  • Intelligent all-wheel drive for added stability both on and off road
  • Extended engine offering with latest generation petrol and diesel engines
  • AFL LED headlights with nine lighting settings for greater visibility in all conditions
The new Mokka X will appeal to a broad range of customers with a tailored engine and drivetrain offering, providing all-wheel or front-wheel drive, manual or automatic transmissions, and petrol or diesel engines. The new sub-compact SUV brings with it a host of technological highlights such as new full Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) LED headlamps.
Chassis
The new Vauxhall Mokka X is available with both front and all-wheel drive systems. The all-wheel drive system improves the on road stability when there is reduced grip on the roads, while also encouraging exploring off the beaten track. The Mokka X can easily distribute power between the front and rear axle from 100:0 to 50:50 thanks to the electronically-controlled multi-disc clutch.
In normal everyday use, the Mokka X 4x4 system runs as an economical front-wheel drive car. Its all-wheel drive system activates when the car is stationary to prevent wheel slip when moving away and engages as soon as the driver depresses the clutch pedal. Once driving the power is transferred back to the front wheels. The all-wheel drive system is then engaged when driving situations require it to improve the traction, such as on wet roads.
In instances such as when hitting a pothole or an ice patch, the additional torque can be transferred to the rear axle to provide maximum traction and stability. The ability to instantly distribute power between the front and the rear axles improves handling and ensures more traction when cornering.
Powertrain
The diesel line-up for the new Mokka X includes two of Vauxhall’s critically-acclaimed 1.6-litre CDTi ‘Whisper Diesel’ engines. Both the 110PS unit (NEDC fuel consumption: urban 64.2mpg, extra-urban 78.5-76.3mpg, combined 72.4-70.6mpg; 105-103g/km CO2) and the 136PS (NEDC fuel consumption: urban 61.4-47.1mpg, extra-urban 74.3-64.2mpg, combined 68.9-56.5mpg; 132-106g/km CO2) engines impress with their responsiveness, smooth running and low fuel consumption. The 136PS engine offers 320Nm of torque, from just 2,000rpm, and the 110PS unit 300Nm from 1,750rpm.
The engines add new levels of refinement to the Mokka X as both set new standards for noise and vibration. Engineers used state-of-the-art CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) simulations and scores of optimisation loops to assess the noise characteristics of each component and sub-system. As a result, numerous measures have been taken to improve running refinement, with the engineers also focussing on saving weight, using aluminium instead of cast iron for the engine block.
The VGT (variable geometry turbine) and high-pressure, common-rail fuel injection system add to the engines’ performance. Injectors capable of supplying fuel at 2,000 bar and up to 10 injection pulses per cylinder cycle ensure high power, improved fuel atomisation and efficient mixing with the air intake charge.
The 1.4-litre ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo petrol engine with 152PS, which made its debut in the new Astra, has been added to the Mokka X engine line-up. It is available with the six-speed automatic transmission and the intelligent all-wheel drive system, making it the most capable petrol engine available for the new model (NEDC fuel consumption: urban 35.8mpg, extra-urban 49.6mpg, combined 43.5mpg; 150g/km CO2).
During development, engineers paid particular attention to the petrol engine’s dynamic responsiveness and high performance, while also managing fuel consumption. The engine can deliver maximum torque of up to 245Nm at 2,200rpm and is available up to 4,400rpm. To help reduce fuel consumption, the engine has an all-aluminium construction, as well as the integration of the exhaust manifold and the use of an electronically-controlled oil pump. These factors result in faster engine warm-up and a reduction of mechanical losses.
The entry-level petrol engine for Vauxhall’s sub-compact SUV is the 1.6-litre unit with 115PS (NEDC fuel consumption: urban 32.8mpg, extra-urban 50.4mpg, combined 42.2mpg; 155g/km CO2). It comes in combination with a manual five-speed transmission and front-wheel drive.
The 1.4-litre Turbo with 140PS rounds off the petrol engine range. It can be combined with various drivetrain setups including six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive (NEDC fuel consumption: urban 37.2mpg, extra-urban 55.4mpg, combined 47.1mpg; 140g/km CO2), six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive (NEDC fuel consumption: urban 34.0mpg, extra-urban 50.4mpg, combined 43.5mpg; 152g/km CO2) or six-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel drive (NEDC fuel consumption: urban 33.6mpg, extra-urban 52.3mpg, combined 43.5mpg; 149g/km CO2).
Technology
The optional AFL LED headlamps produce a bright white light automatically and instantly adapting to the driving situation. AFL LED features nine individual functions, which not only optimise visibility but save energy too.
“The widespread availability of intelligent LED technology is the best way to significantly reduce the risks of night-time driving,” said Mark Adams, Vice President, Design Europe. “The new Vauxhall Mokka X with its optional AFL LED headlamps is an important step towards realising this potential.”
Vauxhall is a manufacturer that has always put customers first, and recognised the risks of night-time driving a number of years ago. It was the first manufacturer to bring AFL with bi-xenon headlamps to the compact market in 2003, and the Vauxhall Astra was the first compact car with cornering lights in 2004, followed by the Zafira in 2005. Embracing its tradition of making innovative technology features available across its product range, Vauxhall introduced halogen headlamp-based AFL in the Corsa in 2006.
The company now offers AFL in almost every passenger car model and the technology is developing constantly. For example, IntelliLux LED Matrix Light, which takes LED technology to the highest level, made its world premiere in the compact class last year on the new Vauxhall Astra.
The Mokka X, with adaptive forward lighting and full LED functionality for all headlamp and signal functions, marks the next milestone in the rollout of LED technology from Vauxhall. Similar to the Astra’s matrix system, AFL LED delivers the benefits of adaptive forward lighting without the moving elements. Instead of switching LEDs on or off in a variety of combinations, AFL LED adapts to the driving situation and the presence of other road users by automatically changing the lighting pattern of the headlamps.
The optional AFL LED headlamps have nine functions, each designed for a different road situation to provide optimal visibility. At speeds above 34 mph, Country Light improves illumination of the road and verges when driving in rural areas. The range of illumination in the driving lane is longer, while the distribution of light on the offside is lower to prevent dazzling oncoming traffic. In addition, the improved illumination of roadside verges enables earlier recognition of potentially dangerous objects including wild animals.
When cornering, AFL LED activates dynamic curve light, which switches on an additional left or right LED, illuminating the road in the direction of travel depending on the steering angle or turn signal. Dynamic curve light switches on automatically at speeds over 25mph when the indicators are in use and/or the steering angle changes from the straight-ahead position and crosses a certain threshold. The function switches off when signalling stops and the steering is returned to the straight-ahead position, and is active up to a maximum speed of 45mph.
At speeds under 34mph, AFL LED automatically activates Urban Light. Compared with the Country Light function, the beam is closer to the area near the car and wider at the sides, with the cornering lights operating at reduced intensity. The improved illumination helps the driver to see the sides of the road and avoid potential accidents at lower speeds, such as those involving pedestrians.
The Parking Light function illuminates the area around the vehicle when driving or reversing into a parking space, making it easier to see the surrounding area. In this mode, the cornering lights shine at reduced intensity when the driver selects reverse gear. Manoeuvring Light remains active for 20 seconds after disengaging reverse gear or until the car drives faster than 4mph in a forward gear, allowing time for more complex manoeuvres.
Tourist Mode (for when you are driving on the other side of the road to the UK), High BeamDaytime Running Lights and High Beam Assist (automatic activation/deactivation of high beam depending on the presence of other vehicles) complete the list of AFL LED functions that improve visibility.
The optional AFL LED headlamps for the new Mokka X not only enhance safety, they also require significantly less energy when compared to other lighting technologies. Vauxhall’s AFL LED headlamps take this inherent advantage a step further by automatically activating Stop Mode Light when the vehicle’s start/stop system has stopped the engine. In this mode, the cornering lights switch off while the low beam stays on, reducing the energy consumption of the headlamps yet retaining visibility to other drivers on the road.

  • 2004 MG ZT with three miles on the clock for auction at Classic Car Auctions’ September Sale.
  • Exactly as it left the factory, the current owner believes this is the best condition and lowest mileage MG Rover in the world.
  • Estimated at between £8,500 and £10,500, the car is for auction on 24th September.
A 2004 MG ZT 1.8 Turbo, with an unbelievable three miles on the clock, will go under the hammer at Classic Car Auctions’ (CCA) September Sale on 24th September at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre.
A remarkable find, the current and only owner purchased the car from a Derby based dealer in 2005 who was selling off the cars at half price following the collapse of MG Rover. It was then delivered to his farm just outside Silverstone race circuit with only one mile on the clock.

The owner wanted to have the ‘best in the world’ and so the car was immediately placed into storage, initially in a heated garage, subsequently in a Carcoon and latterly in a Car Bag, which has beautifully preserved the car. Amazingly, the owner has driven the car just two miles along the driveway, meaning the mileage now reads only three miles.
Now for sale again 11 years later, estimated at between £8,500 and £10,500, the owner believes this is the best condition and lowest mileage MG ZT in the world.
Presented in British Racing Green, it is in immaculate condition and exactly as it left the Longbridge factory. It still has the original ContiSport tyres and even the same fuel that was put in the tank all those years ago. The 1.8 litre turbocharged iconic Rover K-Series engine is gleaming.
Commenting on the sale of the car, CCA general manager, Guy Lees-Milne, said, “It’s amazing that our vendor has never used this car on the road and has cared for the car so much that it has been tucked away and only covered three miles. The time is now right to part with it and Classic Car Auctions are very proud to have been asked to help find it a new home.”
The high spec interior, so well preserved there’s still a new car smell, features half leather seats, green alcantara door lining, air conditioning and CD player.
Guy added, “This really is a special collector’s piece and certainly an amazing example of history from the last domestically owned mass-production car manufacturer.”

Volkswagen has announced the all new Crafter large commercial vehicle.

Economical, functional and reliable like never before
  • World premiere of the new Crafter today in Offenbach
  • 4 base models, 3 lengths, 3 heights – total of 69 derivatives
  • Economical due to lower fuel costs and low maintenance and wear costs – also known as the Total Costs of Ownership (TCO)
  • Front or rear drive, manual or automatic gearbox plus 4MOTION all-wheel drive
  • Pre-sales begin in November 2016
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has presented the new Crafter to around 350 international media representatives in Offenbach. With a maximum payload of 5.5 metric tonnes, a larger maximum cargo volume of 18.4 m3 and an excellent variety of drive types and derivatives, the new Crafter offers highly functional solutions for everyday use that meet customer expectations for individual transport tasks in all use areas.
The new Crafter features a chassis that has been redeveloped from the ground up with electromechanical steering, engines that are reliable, more fuel-efficient and optimised for both long trips and urban traffic, well thought-out solutions for loading, practical preparations for superstructure manufacturers, an ergonomic driver's workplace and an exceptional number of driver assistance systems.

The special aspects here: the entire vehicle concept was redeveloped from the ground up – based on specific customer wishes, as Dr Eckhard Scholz, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, explained at the event in Offenbach:
“The development of the new Crafter was a unique opportunity to avoid all compromises while drawing upon our decades of experience in the market segment.
The new Crafter represents a fusion of product focus and customer focus. In other words, we developed his vehicle from the customer’s perspective.”
This is easy to see, even at first glance: The Crafter makes good use of the design structure and exemplary quality of its “smaller sibling”, the sixth generation transporter: dynamic, contemporary and agile on the outside, at the same time it offers robust inner values such as the greatest possible payload, an ideal cargo volume of up to 18.4 m3 and a maximum cargo space height of 2,196 mm.
An extremely wide range of derivatives is offered for the new Crafter, including high tonnage versions.
As a panel van and Kombi, the new Crafter is available in various lengths (5986 mm, 6836 mm or, for the panel van, 7391 mm as well) and heights (2355 mm, 2590 mm or, for the panel van, 2798 mm as well).
On top of that come open variants as single or double cab versions with varying lengths and with or without superstructure solutions, e.g. as a pick-up, with a van body or a tip-up mechanism.
Especially from a practical perspective, the new Crafter impresses with excellent functionality, refined prep for different uses and optimised dimensions: in the front-wheel drive version, it offers a maximum cargo capacity of 18.4 m3 with a permissible gross weight of 3.0 – 4.0 t. The cargo width between wheel arches of 1,380 mm and a maximum cargo compartment length of 4,855 mm give it the best package dimensions of its vehicle class. Loading the new Crafter is easy thanks to the 1,311 mm opening of the sliding door, a minimal sill height of 570 mm on the front-wheel drive versions and optional 270° opening of the rear doors.
The new Crafter offers an ingenious solution for securing loads: the cargo can be secured “from all sides” in the most literal meaning of the words.
Anchor tracks in the form of patented airline profiles are integrated on the sidewalls, the partition wall, in the roof and in the floor.
The chassis, which has been redeveloped from the ground up and tuned in detail, has a comfortable McPherson front suspension and five different variants of a rigid rear axle, and parabolic springs that are progressive springs in some derivatives.
The electromechanical steering that is being introduced for the first time in this segment provides for excellent handling, optimised manoeuvrability and safe driving properties in all load states. This improved steering precision and fine response also leads to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions due to adaptive energy consumption.
Moreover, the ergonomics of the driver’s workplace have been optimised. It is possible to order three different variants of an optional ergonomic suspension seat with an AGR (“Campaign for Healthy Backs”) seal with adjustable lumbar supports and massage function.
The new Crafter’s standard features include electric windows, central locking with wireless remote control and practical and ergonomically designed storage features for a mobile phone, laptop and tablet, folding rule, working gloves and much more.
The driver assistance systems available for the new Crafter offer additional convenience and associated gains in safety.
Thanks to the electromechanical steering, being used for the first time in its class, the new Crafter provides an outstandingly wide array of active driver assistance systems, such as an active lane-keeping system (Lane Assist), a parking assistant (Park Assist) and an assistant for manoeuvring a trailer (Trailer Assist).
Other assistance systems, some of which are optional, include the “ACC Follow to Stop” adaptive cruise control system, the Front Assist emergency braking system, the standard Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, the side wind assistant that is also standard, driver alert system, automatic main beam dipping control by Light Assist and much more.
Available passive safety systems include – along with front, side and head airbags for the driver and front passenger – a reversing camera, Rear Traffic Alert, and sensor-based side protection that was specially developed for the new Crafter.
The new Crafter provides various well thought-out preparations for superstructure manufacturers: an optional universal cargo floor is equipped with shelving mounts, so that existing shelving systems from lease vehicles or previous models can be installed for all common suppliers of customisation solutions.
Moreover, the new Crafter will be the first vehicle in its class to offer optional modular add-on equipment.
Available ex factory as an option are a second compressor for refrigeration or fresh produce applications, four variants of a second battery, a second air conditioner and a second heat exchanger for a fuel-operated auxiliary heating system.
In addition, the new Crafter is offering the integrated FMS Fleet Management Interface as a prepared telematic functional interface, which may be combined with any of the telematic solutions generally available in the market. This makes it easy to integrate the new Crafter into existing fleets.
The further developed EU6 engines based on the Modular Diesel Platform (“MDB”) were specially configured for the new Crafter with respect to the “tough” requirements of a commercial vehicle. They are very reliable engines and are designed for both short-distance and long-distance transportation.
The 2.0l TDI engine, the “EA 288 Commercial”, which was further developed for the Crafter, is available with front-wheel drive at three different power output levels for EU6 markets: 75 kW (102 PS), 103 kW (140 PS) or as a BiTurbo TDI with 130 kW (177 PS).
The 1,968 cc TDI engine is installed transversely, and it is inclined eight degrees towards the front, which results in shorter equipment length and thereby provides more space for the driver and payload.
All engines fulfil the EU6 emissions standard, and they have a stop-start system as standard. Overall, they are 15% per cent more fuel-efficient on average.
new Crafter also scores with its ruggedness and low wear, maintenance and repair costs, all of which have a positive effect on total cost of ownership (TCO) over the vehicle’s life cycle.
Pre-sales of the new Crafter begin in November 2016. UK launch is expected in Spring 2017.
From around mid-2017, the powertrains on offer will be supplemented by the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with a transversely mounted engine and the rear-wheel drive system with a longitudinally mounted engine.

USA RECALL - Mazda recalls a number of it's models over many years to fix the hatch/Lift Gate Gas Stay Dampers.

On September 6, Mazda Motor Corporation filed a safety defect report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to address a concern with certain CX-3, Mazda3, Mazda5 and CX-5 vehicles.
On the affected vehicles, insufficient corrosion protective coating was applied to the ends of the external cylinders of the rear hatch/lift gate gas stay dampers (lift supports). If water containing road salt enters, it can cause corrosion.

Over time, increased corrosion may eventually cause it to break as the rear hatch or lift gate is opened. The rear hatch or lift gate may drop suddenly, and/or the broken parts may hit the customer, causing injury.
Affected vehicles include:
2010-2013 Model Year Mazda3
2012-2015 Model Year Mazda5
2013-2016 Model Year CX-5
2016 Model Year CX-3
Approximately 575,381 vehicles are affected in the U.S.
There have been no reports of accidents or injuries as a result of this condition in the affected Mazda vehicles.
Mazda North American Operations is headquartered in Irvine, Calif., and oversees the sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda vehicles in the United States and Mexico through more than 700 dealers. Operations in Mexico are managed by Mazda Motor de Mexico in Mexico City.

Volvo Cars has just released teh first car that will ultimately be used by a family for fully autonomous driving.

Volvo Cars, the premium car maker, has officially kicked off Drive Me, the world’s most ambitious and advanced public autonomous driving experiment. This morning it produced the very first autonomous car that will be used in the Drive Me project in Gothenburg.
The autonomous Volvo XC90 SUV was finalised in Volvo Cars’ special manufacturing facility in Torslanda this morning, and is the first in a series of autonomous cars that will eventually be handed to real families in Gothenburg to be driven on public roads.

Volvo is the industry leader in the area of automotive safety and believes that the introduction of AD technology promises to reduce car accidents. Furthermore, AD technology promises to free up congested roads, reduce pollution and allow drivers to use their time in their cars more valuably.

Volvo currently offers a semi-autonomous functionality called Pilot Assist on its 90 series cars. Pilot Assist gives gentle steering inputs to keep the car properly aligned within lane markings up to 80 mph without the need to follow another car. The Drive Me cars will add hands-off and feet-off capability in special autonomous drive zones around Gothenburg, powered by what Volvo calls the Autonomous Driving Brain.
The Swedish company, whose name has been synonymous with automotive safety ever since it invented the three-point seat belt in 1959, is pioneering the development of autonomous driving systems as part of its vision that no one will be seriously injured or killed in a new Volvo by the year 2020.
It is the customer-focused approach that sets the Drive Me project apart from other autonomous driving experiments. Instead of relying purely on the research of its own engineers, Volvo aims to collect feedback and input from real customers using these autonomous cars in their everyday lives.
By choosing this customer-focused approach, Volvo aims to further fine-tune its autonomous driving technologies and make its offering as relevant as possible to customers ahead of a commercial introduction around 2021.
“This is an important milestone for the Drive Me project,” said Erik Coelingh, Senior Technical Leader Active Safety at Volvo Cars, as he observed the final touches being put to the car. “Customers look at their cars differently than us engineers, so we are looking forward to learn how they use these cars in their daily lives and what feedback they will give us.”
After rolling off the production line, the Drive Me customer cars will undergo a rigorous testing phase to ensure that the cars’ advanced autonomous driving technologies function exactly as they should. Once this testing phase – overseen by Volvo’s highly capable engineers – is finalised, the cars will be handed over to the customers participating in the Drive Me pilot.
The Drive Me pilot project in Gothenburg is the first in a number of planned public trials with autonomous driving Volvo cars. A similar project to the one in Gothenburg will be launched in London next year, while Volvo is also assessing bids from interested cities in China to launch a Drive Me project there within the next few years.
Volvo also actively engages in strategic partnerships in the area of autonomous drive technology. Last month, it launched a new partnership with ride-sharing company Uber to jointly develop the next generation of autonomous driving cars. Earlier this week, Volvo revealed it will set up a new jointly owned company together with leading automotive supplier Autoliv to develop next-generation autonomous driving software.

Liberty Media Corporation Agrees to Acquire Formula One

  • Transaction price represents enterprise value for Formula One of $8.0b
  • Chase Carey appointed as Chairman; Bernie Ecclestone to remain CEO
  • Initial sale of 18.7% minority stake in Formula One, with 100% sale subject to satisfaction of conditions
Liberty Media Corporation ("Liberty Media") (Nasdaq: LSXMA, LSXMB, LSXMK, BATRA, BATRK, LMCA, LMCK) and CVC Capital Partners ("CVC") announced today that Liberty Media has agreed to acquire Formula One, the iconic global motorsports business, from a consortium of sellers led by CVC.
Liberty Media owns interests in a broad range of media, communications and entertainment businesses. Those interests are attributed to three tracking stock groups: the Liberty SiriusXM Group, the Liberty Braves Group, and the Liberty Media Group.

The consideration comprises cash and newly issued shares in the Liberty Media Group tracking stock (LMCK) and a debt instrument exchangeable into shares of LMCK. The transaction price represents an enterprise value for Formula One of $8.0 billion and an equity value of $4.4 billion(1).
The acquisition will be effected by Liberty Media acquiring 100% of the shares of Delta Topco, the parent company of Formula One (Delta Topco herein referred to as "Formula One")(2). The acquisition is subject to the satisfaction of certain conditions and is described in more detail below.
Concurrent with the execution of the agreement to effect the acquisition, Liberty Media has completed the acquisition of an 18.7% minority stake in Formula One for $746 million, funded entirely in cash (which is equal to $821 million in consideration less a $75 million discount to be repaid by Liberty Media to selling stockholders upon completion of the acquisition).
Prior to completion, CVC Funds will continue to be the controlling shareholder of Formula One.
After completion of the acquisition, Liberty Media will own Formula One and it will be attributed to the Liberty Media Group which will be renamed the Formula One Group
The consortium of sellers led by CVC will own approximately 65%(1)(3) of the Formula One Group's equity and will have board representation at Formula One to support Liberty Media in continuing to develop the full potential of the sport. In addition, a CVC representative will be joining the Liberty Media Board of Directors.
Chase Carey has been appointed by Delta Topco and will serve as the new Chairman of Formula One, succeeding Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, who will remain on Formula One's board as a non-executive director. Bernie Ecclestone will remain Formula One's CEO.
Greg Maffei, President and Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Media, said: "We are excited to become part of Formula One.
We think our long-term perspective and expertise with media and sports assets will allow us to be good stewards of Formula One and benefit fans, teams and our shareholders.
We look forward to working closely with Chase Carey and Bernie Ecclestone to support the next phase of growth for this hugely popular global sport."
Chase Carey, Chairman of Formula One, said: "I am thrilled to take up the role of Chairman of Formula One and have the opportunity to work alongsideBernie Ecclestone, CVC, and the Liberty Media team.
I greatly admire Formula One as a unique global sports entertainment franchise attracting hundreds of millions of fans each season from all around the world. I see great opportunity to help Formula One continue to develop and prosper for the benefit of the sport, fans, teams and investors alike."
Bernie Ecclestone, Chief Executive Officer of Formula One, said: "I would like to welcome Liberty Media and Chase Carey to Formula One and I look forward to working with them."
Donald Mackenzie, Co-Chairman of CVC, commented: "We are delighted Chase Carey is joining Formula One as its new Chairman and that he will be working alongside Bernie Ecclestone
Chase's experience and knowledge of sport, media and entertainment is as good as it gets and we are very pleased to secure his services. Bernie has been a wonderful CEO for us over the last 10 years.
There have been many successes and the occasional challenge but there has never been a dull moment and we have had a lot of fun. The combined skills of Chase and Bernie mean that the successes should continue and we wish them well.
We would like to thank Peter Brabeck-Letmathe for his outstanding contribution during his tenure as Chairman. His leadership has served the company well, and we are pleased that he will remain on the board as a non-executive director."
In the acquisition the selling stockholders will receive a mix of consideration comprising: $1.1 billion in cash, 138 million newly issued shares of LMCK and a $351 million exchangeable debt instrument to be issued by Formula One and exchangeable into shares of LMCK.
Funding for the cash component of the acquisition is expected to come from cash on hand at the Liberty Media Group. The newly issued LMCK shares will be subject to market co-ordination and lock-up agreements.
The Teams will be given the opportunity to participate in the investment in Formula One, and the detailed terms of that investment will be agreed in due course. Certain teams have already expressed an interest in investing after completion of the acquisition.
The interest in Formula One already acquired by Liberty Media, and the remaining interest to be acquired upon the closing of the acquisition, along with $4.1 billion of existing Formula One debt (which will be non-recourse to Liberty Media) and $0.7 billion in Formula One cash, is being attributed to the Liberty Media Group tracking stock.
Upon completion of the acquisition, the Liberty Media Group will be renamed the Formula One Group and the ticker symbols for the Series A, Series B and Series C Liberty Media Group tracking stocks will be changed from LMC (A/B/K), respectively, to FWON (A/B/K), respectively. Formula One will remain based in London.
The completion of the acquisition is subject to certain conditions, including the receipt of: (i) certain clearances and approvals by antitrust and competition law authorities in various countries, (ii) certain third-party consents and approvals, including that of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, the governing body of Formula One, and (iii) the approval of Liberty Media's stockholders of the issuance of LMCK shares in connection with the acquisition and the name change of the Liberty Media Group to the Formula One Group, and is expected to close by the first quarter of 2017.
Additional information regarding the acquisition and Formula One will be included in a proxy statement to be filed by Liberty Media with the Securities and Exchange Commission relating to the matters to be voted upon by Liberty Media's stockholders described above.
Liberty Media's President and CEO, Greg Maffei and Formula One's Chairman, Chase Carey will host an investor conference call at 6:00pm ET /4:00pm MT on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 to discuss the acquisition in more detail. Volvo Cars’ instrumental role in defining the adventurous Cross Country segment is widely acknowledged. With the imminent reveal of the new V90 Cross Country, the Swedish car maker is set to cement its leading role as the most capable and comfortable premium all-roader on offer and complete its 90 series line-up.

“Cross Country has become the true expression of a Volvo car in many people’s eyes. It was a winning concept from the start, perfect for the tough climate and road conditions that we experience in Sweden,” said Håkan Samuelsson, President & CEO, Volvo Car Group.
Developed in 1996, the first Cross Country estate combined functional flexibility and rugged capability. Today, 20 years later, the Cross Country segment is a familiar sight across the premium car market, providing a capable yet comfortable driving experience.
Extreme climate capability
Designed to cope with the demanding requirements of an extreme Scandinavian climate, Cross Country models perform in all sorts of road conditions – from muddy tracks and knee-deep snow to long-distance motorway driving.
Proving a popular choice with horse and boat owners thanks to its high ground clearance, pulling power and responsive All-Wheel Drive, Cross Country has cemented its position as a premium mainstay and a true all-weather alternative to the SUV.
“We were very careful from the very beginning to ensure that the Cross Country concept was not just an exercise in rugged styling.
We placed high demands on real-world capability, and as we developed the segment, we added the comfort and convenience elements that Volvo drivers have come to expect,” said Dr Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research & Development at Volvo Car Group.
The eagerly awaited V90 Cross Country will be revealed in mid-September.
First generation, 1997 – 2000
Developed as a capable alternative to the SUV and front-wheel-drive cars, Volvo Cars’ first Cross Country – the V70 XC – grew in popularity as old-school SUVs began to morph into city jeeps. Cross Country offered a new, adventurous take on motoring that delivered a competent mix of capability, functionality and comfort.
The V70 XC was an instant success, especially in the North American market.
Second generation, 2000 – 2007
In 2000, the second-generation V70 XC came with much bolder styling and higher ground clearance.
When Volvo’s first SUV – the XC90 – came in 2002, the V70 XC received a newer, more modern All-Wheel Drive system and changed its name to XC70 in order to align to its bigger brother.
Third generation, 2007 – 2016
The third-generation Volvo Cross Country arrived in 2007 with added elegance and luxury. The XC70 continued to be a North American love affair, accounting for almost half of the total volume produced.
In 2014, the XC70 gained recognition around the globe as Zlatan Ibrahimović’s car thanks to a Volvo Cars commercial featuring the Swedish footballer. Such was the impact that sales of the model grew markedly during its last years of production.

  • Jaguar Land Rover’s Castle Bromwich plant starts production of Jaguar XE
  • Move comes in response to F-PACE and XE sales success
  • £100m of fresh investment in Birmingham plant reaffirms commitment to British manufacturing
  • Announcement demonstrates Jaguar Land Rover’s fully flexible West Midlands manufacturing operations
Following the huge customer demand for Jaguar’s two latest models, the F-PACE and XE, Jaguar Land Rover today revealed that the mid-sized premium sport sedan, the Jaguar XE, is to be built at Castle Bromwich - marking the return of all Jaguar sports and saloon car manufacturing to the Birmingham plant.
The XE will gradually transfer from its current home at Solihull, demonstrating the inherent flexibility of Jaguar Land Rover’s West Midlands manufacturing operations - the result of more than £1bn of infrastructure investment at Solihull and Castle Bromwich.

This investment in new press lines, body shops and final assembly halls supports production of the three Jaguar models built on the company’s technically advanced aluminium architecture*.
Wolfgang Stadler, Jaguar Land Rover’s Executive Director of Manufacturing, said: “The significant investment to create two centres of excellence in aluminium vehicle manufacturing, utilising shared technologies, was deliberate. It gives us the flexibility to quickly respond to consumer demand for our growing range of products.”
The arrival of XE at Castle Bromwich continues the renaissance of the plant, which was slated for closure in 2008. The £100m investment to welcome the latest model takes the total invested in the site to more than £500m over the last two years, supporting continuous improvement in the production of XF, F-TYPE and XJ, also built at the plant.
Nicolas Guibert, Castle Bromwich Operations Director, said: “2016 is a pivotal year for Castle Bromwich. The arrival of the XE sees us increase our model lines and volume.
“This plant has a rich heritage and is undergoing its most significant transformation in decades, with major infrastructure projects either complete or under way. The commissioning of our all-new press line and launch of our body shop to support the introduction of XE means Castle Bromwich is future-proof.”
In August, Jaguar sales stood at 85,726 for the year, an increase of 72% on 2015. This strong performance is driven primarily by F-PACE, the fastest selling Jaguar of all time, and XE, which made its US market debut in the summer.
Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull plant will continue to operate three shifts, 24 hours a day, to keep up with global demand for the Jaguar F-PACE and Range Rover Sport which are built on the same production line.
