Upgraded Suzuki swift launches with a VAT free offer.

The Swift is one of Suzuki’s world strategic models and makes strong statements in styling, impact safety, driving performance, handling as well as offering low fuel consumption and low CO2 emissions.
The powertrain is a Euro 5 compliant 1.2 litre engine incorporating Dual VVT (Variable intake and exhaust Valve Timing) that produces 94PS at 6,000rpm with a torque figure of 118Nm at 4,800rpm. Swift is highly fuel efficient offering 56.5mpg on the EC combined cycle for the manual transmission model with 2WD.  C02emissions are also one of the lowest in its class producing just 116g/km on the combined cycle (manual transmission).

Due to less than 10 per cent uptake of the 1.3-litre DDiS model, Suzuki has taken the decision to discontinue this model from the range this year.
UK Specification Summary
Swift is available in four clearly defined specification grades, SZ2, SZ3, SZ4 and Sport with 1.6-litre engine. In addition to seven airbags and ESP as standard, SZ2 has front passenger airbag deactivation facility, electric front windows, remote central door locking with deadlocks, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, MP3 / WMA compatible CD tuner with USB port and steering wheel mounted audio controls. SZ3 adds air conditioning, 16-inch alloy wheels, integrated audio unit and bluetooth connectivity with music streaming facility.
As part of the minor change specification upgrades from June 2014, all Swift models (except Sport)are now fitted with LED DRL (Daytime Running Lights) and front fog lights. A gear shift indicator has now been added to help aid fuel efficiency as well as Tyre Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) for added driver safety.  These two features have also now been added to the 1.6-litre Sport model.
Also from June 2014, SZ4 adds navigation and DAB digital radio as standard to the already high specification that includes automatic air conditioning, electric rear windows, rear privacy glass (five door models), push button keyless start, automatic headlamps, cruise control and heated mirrors with integrated turn indicators.

4x4 model for added flexibility.
Following good sales success in Japan and several European Countries, Suzuki took the positive decision in mid-2013 to launch the 4x4 model in the UK. This model is available as a five door 1.2 petrol model with manual transmission and equipped as either an SZ3 or SZ4 grade.
Thanks to the use of small and lightweight components Swift 4x4 is just 65kg heavier than an equivalent 2WD petrol model and emissions are only 10g/km higher at 126g/km. Apart from 4x4 badging and a slightly increased body ride height of 25mm the SZ3 grade appears identical to an equivalent SZ3 five door.
The SZ4 model has a more rugged appearance and offers extra protection over rough ground by adding front and rear skid plates, black wheel arch extensions and black side skirts.
1.6-litre Sport.
The flagship Sport model was launched in the UK in January 2012; befitting its status as the performance flagship of the Swift model range it reflects the pursuit of even better handling, driving performance, environmental compatibility and an uncompromising focus on quality. Overall, it offers a rewarding experience of Suzuki’s sporting DNA.
Suzuki launched the Swift Sport in a growing number of Countries and sales in the UK are around 1,100 units per annum, representing 10 per cent of total Swift sales. The Sport model has a bespoke exhaust system with twin tailpipes, one on each side of the rear diffuser.
The Swift Sport’s M16A engine offers power combined with low emissions. The engine has a variable intake system and an optimised intake VVT (Variable Valve Timing) for increased valve lift, maximum output is an impressive 100kW (136PS) and maximum torque is 160Nm at an engine speed of 4,400 rpm. The engine’s high output is combined with excellent fuel economy of 44.1mpg on the Combined EC Cycle and CO2emissions are 147g/km.

MG doubles 2013 sales figures in first five months of 2014, not hard to do really, was it !

MG sustains dramatic growth in 2014 as the Midlands based manufacturer doubles 2013 total sales volumes in just the first five months of the year.
MG’s 90th anniversary year continues to be one of unparalleled success for the iconic marque, as figures announced by the SMMT for May reveal that MG once again leads growth for the UK automotive industry; posting an astounding 1754 per cent increase month on month, and an exceptional 842 percentage increase year to date compared to this time last year.
Sales for the iconic manufacturer continue to improve as MG has posted recording breaking sales every month so far in 2014, including the best Q1 sales in the company’s history. This year is already MG’s best ever sales year, surpassing previous best sales success in 2012 where 782 units were sold.

Nissan’s zero-emission revolution is entering its next important phase with the launch of e-NV200, the company’s second 100 percent electric vehicle.
Launched at a time when air quality in city centres is taking on even greater significance, e-NV200 promises emission-free running thanks to its advanced battery-powered electric motor. As a commercial vehicle the e-NV200 promises to take on an even greater role in reducing emissions and improving air quality as it operates day and night with van and taxi fleets in city centres.
As well as producing no tail-pipe pollution at all – and thus having a hugely positive effect on city centre NOx levels – e-NV200’s electric motor produces no noise while its smooth, gear-change-free drivetrain means a less stressed, more relaxed and therefore safer driver.
The Nissan e-NV200 combines the award-winning electric drivetrain from Nissan LEAF, 2011 World Car of the Year, with the best-in-class cargo volume and practicality of the Nissan NV200, 2010 International Van of the Year.

But e-NV200 is far more than a simple conversion of an existing conventionally powered vehicle.
In creating its first pure electric LCV, Nissan has significantly re-engineered and re-styled NV200 for its new role. And although it does use a number of key elements from LEAF and NV200, some 30 percent of its components are unique to e-NV200. There are styling changes, a re-engineered chassis, interior revision, a new battery pack and a higher capacity regenerative braking system.
The result is a range of zero-emission vehicles that are capable of making a significant contribution not only to future mobility but also to the business model of any company using small vans, people movers or taxis.  For as well as being an exciting vehicle to drive, e-NV200 will be cost effective to run and, just as importantly, its sustainability will reflect positively on any operator’s business decision.
After an exhaustive testing programme, which included providing globally recognised companies with prototype vehicles to provide feedback in real world usage, e-NV200 is now ready to come to market.
When sales start in June, e-NV200 will be available as a compact but capacious and practical van or as a five-seat passenger vehicle in Combi or more luxurious Evalia versions (Evalia not offered in the UK). The LCV version has a cargo volume of 4.2m3 and can carry two standard Euro pallets, while sliding side doors on both sides and wide opening rear doors – a top hinged single rear door is also available – ensure that loading and unloading is as easy as possible.
Running costs are the number one priority for most fleet operators and the e-NV200 has been developed to help the business equation. Planned maintenance costs are 40 percent lower and without engine oil, belts, gearbox or clutch there are fewer parts to be checked or replaced. Fuel costs are also significantly lower, with diesel costing three or four times as much as electricity for 100 km of driving.
In the coming year there will also be dedicated taxi versions of e-NV200 on the market, a vehicle built to comply with specific, and invariably different, regulations in capital cities. The first European city to adopt e-NV200 as part of its taxi fleet will be the vehicle’s home city of Barcelona, Spain.
In fact, e-NV200 is built exclusively in Barcelona for global sale. It will be produced in Spain alongside NV200, using lithium-ion battery cells produced at Nissan’s battery plant in Sunderland, UK. The battery packs themselves are made in Barcelona to a unique design for e-NV200.
The Nissan e-NV200 is perfectly suited to a working life in the UK’s cities and towns. It has a range a homologated NEDC range of 106 miles – considerably more than the average 100 km daily driving distance of 70 percent of the fleets using compact vans in their businesses. In Europe 35 percent of this category of van never travel more than 120 km in the life of the van.
All of this capability is complemented by a cargo area which is identical to NV200 at 4.2 cubic metres and the payload capacity is even greater than its diesel cousin with up to 770 kg possible.
The battery can be recharged overnight in 8 hours using a domestic 16-amp single-phase 3.3 kW charger – perfect if e-NV200 is not operating around the clock – but this time reduces to just four hours if the optional 6.6kW/32-amp charger is fitted and a suitable supply is used.
Alternatively, a dedicated CHAdeMO DC 50 kW quick charger can recharge the battery to 80 percent capacity in as little as 30 minutes or less if the battery still holds some charge, meaning that e-NV200 can be charged while it is being loaded with goods for another delivery, for example.
More than 1,100 CHAdeMO quick chargers available to the public have been installed across Europe, with 220 of those in the UK. It is expected that e-NV200 fleet operators will install their own quick chargers at their place of business or works depots. Taxi companies including Taxi Electric in the Netherlands and C&C Taxis in the UK have installed quick chargers at their depots to increase fleet utilisation.
“The engineering changes we have made have produced much more than a good electric van… it is a fantastic van by any standards. Drivers will want to get behind the wheel of e-NV200 not just because it produces no emissions, but also because it is so good to drive – the ride comfort, the acceleration, the refinement and the ease of use are all far ahead of what they are used to,” said Guillaume Carter, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing for Nissan Europe.
“There is change in the air,” said Jean-Pierre Diernaz, Director of Electric Vehicles for Nissan Europe. “Europe’s cities are introducing ever stringent restrictions on emissions. London already has a congestion charge zone based on emissions while the city’s Mayor is preparing for the introduction of an Ultra Low Emission Zone by 2020.
“Paris has this year prevented vehicles driving into its centre in a bid to cut pollution. Diesels, meanwhile, are coming under increased scrutiny for their NOx and particulate emissions.
“As the growth in sales of Nissan LEAF proves, this is the time of the zero-emission vehicle. Nissan e-NV200 takes us into a completely different market segment and will help cement our position as the global leader in electric vehicle technology.
“We believe e-NV200 will genuinely change the make-up of light van and taxi fleets as well as changing the environment in the heart of our cities. All of the 200,000 vans sold per year which never cover more than 100 km a day in their lifetime, could be replaced by e-NV200 without ever needing to stop to refuel during their working day. This simple fact, combined with the low running costs, capabilities and comfort make this a truly game-changing vehicle,” added Diernaz.

New 1.5L Skyactive-D engine to appear in new Mazda2

Mazda confirms its all-new Mazda2 will debut with the SKYACTIV-D 1.5, a brand-new 1.5-litre clean diesel engine, when the convention-challenging carmaker introduces its next-generation B-segment model, which will be initially launched in Japan.
First unveiled in March at the Geneva International Motor Show alongside the Mazda Hazumi concept (the basis for the all-new Mazda2), the SKYACTIV-D 1.5 shares much with its award-winning sibling: The SKYACTIV-D 2.2 clean diesel available for the Mazda CX-5, Mazda6 and Mazda3. The SKYACTIV-D 1.5 was developed in the pursuit of ideal combustion despite a very low compression ratio. As a result, the engine boasts outstanding dynamic performance from standstill to its unusually high redline..

New innovations for the small-displacement newcomer to the SKYACTIV range include an expanded homogenous lean burn range, even less mechanical resistance, and new insulation technology to counter the increased cooling loss associated with a smaller engine. So it’s exceptionally efficient and clean, delivering top-class fuel economy and emissions, and will comply with Euro 6 without needing pricey exhaust aftertreatment.
In addition to the SKYACTIV-D 1.5, the all-new Mazda2 will come equipped with the full line-up of SKYACTIV Technology, including the highly efficient six-speed SKYACTIV-Drive automatic and SKYACTIV-MT manual transmissions. It will also have the carmaker’s fuel-saving i-stop idle-stop and i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration systems. Mazda expects its new clean diesel-powered supermini to achieve the best fuel economy of any combustion-engine powered vehicle available in Japan*. The SKYACTIV-D 1.5 should be popular in Europe, too. The company believes the next Mazda2 will follow in the tracks of existing SKYACTIV-based Mazdas, among other things in terms of outstanding real-world fuel consumption and Mazda’s characteristic driving fun.

Land Rover has extended its support to the Born Free Foundation’s work in India by delivering a brand new Land Rover Freelander to the Satpuda Foundation, one of Born Free’s partner organisations in Central India, to carry out critical conservation work in the country’s central tiger reserves.
The Land Rover Freelander features the distinctive Born Free white paw prints, and will be a vital asset in the field and a highly visible ambassador for conservation work in the Satpuda Landscape Tiger Programme area, which is the largest viable block of tiger habitat in India.

Tigers have become a highly endangered species due to poaching and loss of their natural habitat. In fact, their numbers have now plummeted to just 3,500 worldwide - these creatures are fighting for their very survival. There are dedicated teams at Satpuda working to ensure their future and this Land Rover Freelander is now an important part of that network.
Mark Cameron, Brand Experience Director at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “Land Rover’s on-going partnership with the Born Free Foundation has already helped support some of the Foundation’s most important projects in the UK, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa and Sri Lanka. With this addition of the Land Rover Freelander to the Satpuda Landscape Tiger Programme, I believe together we will now make a real contribution to the conservation of the endangered Tiger in India.
“The Land Rover Freelander’s all-terrain capability will enable conservation workers to reach areas which would otherwise be inaccessible and ultimately protect the tigers throughout the Satpuda Landscape.”

“Today the link is even stronger with Born Free-branded Land Rovers already deployed in wildlife hotspots in South Africa, Kenya, Sri Lanka and Ethiopia. Now India will benefit from this strategic alliance and I am delighted that a brand new Freelander will be assisting in our efforts to protect wild tigers as part of our Satpuda Tiger Landscape Project, as well as help prevent their continued devastation at the hand of poachers.

Kids – and grown-ups – who love design and finding out how things work will find plenty to entertain them in the latest development of the Toyota Camatte, a car designed for all ages to drive and enjoy.
The Camatte returns to the International Tokyo Toy Show for the third year running this week, with a new Sport version on display in the Toyota Design Lab. Visitors of all ages are invited to create their own colourful digital designs and see them reproduced on the car by a mass of LEDs  across the bonnet.
Those more interested in the car’s nuts-and-bolts qualities can learn about how the car is constructed and the functions of its working parts in a stripped-down model featured in Toyota’s Tech Lab.
Camatte has been created to help inspire the drivers of the future and show them how car design and engineering can be rewarding and fun.

Yamaha continues launched new MT models, now they give us the MT-09.

An initial group of 86 dealers have been awarded Alfa Romeo franchises in the United States and Canada.
 
In the U.S., 82 Alfa Romeo dealers are located in 33 states, with California, Texas, and Florida having the largest concentration of dealerships. There are four Alfa Romeo dealers in Canada in this first group.
 
These 86 dealers will be the first to sell the all-new 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C coupe and limited-edition 4C Launch Edition when the iconic Italian sports car brand returns to the North American market this year.
 
“This group of dealers represents the first phase in the Alfa Romeo dealer network selection process,” said Peter Grady, Vice President of Network Development, Chrysler Group LLC. “Each Alfa Romeo dealer will have a unique staff dedicated to the brand’s premium market clientele. We require each Alfa Romeo dealer to have their sales and technical staff go through an intensive curriculum to ensure the highest levels of customer care and proficiency of the Alfa Romeo 4C. We anticipate that the Alfa Romeo dealer network ultimately will exceed 300 franchises in North America.”



Additional Alfa Romeo franchises will be awarded this year. Initially, each franchise will receive the highly-anticipated Alfa Romeo 4C Launch Edition.

Exclusive: new looks, new tech and front-wheel drive for next-generation BMW 1 Series due in 2018

The BMW 1 Series has always been a hit in the UK, ranking as 2013’s ninth best-selling car, with 41,883 finding homes. But despite its success, the company is planning a complete rethink for the next generation of its sporty, rear-drive hatch, due in 2018. Our exclusive image shows how the car could look and there are more pics in this week's Auto Express magazine.
Following the lead of its Audi A3 and Mercedes A-Class rivals (both also set for replacement in 2018), the MkIII 1 Series will be front-wheel drive with more powerful versions featuring xDrive four-wheel drive. 

1 Series to join growing range of FWD BMWs

Driving enthusiasts might be up in arms, but BMW is confident most customers won’t be able to tell. A poll in 2010 found around 80 per cent of 1 Series drivers wrongly assumed their cars were front-wheel drive. And cars like the new MINI and Ford Fiesta ST have proven front-drive can be as much fun as rear-drive. Regardless of where power is sent, the 1 Series will look sharper and sportier with the slimmer LED lights and a sharper grille. 

The 1 Series won’t be the first front-wheel-drive BMW, of course – that will be the 2 Series Active Tourer MPV, which we’ll drive next month, while the new X1 (due in 2015) will be offered with front or four-wheel drive. All three of these mould-breaking BMWs will be based on the new UKL1 architecture that already underpins the new three and five-door MINIs.

2018 BMW 1 Series to be bigger with more space

Expect the 1 Series’ wheelbase to be stretched even further than the 2,567mm of the five-door MINI, creating more space in the back than at present and a bigger boot – it’s currently 360 litres or 1,200 litres with the rear seats folded. 
Yet even though the new 1 Series will be slightly bigger, it’s expected to be lighter. Removing the propshaft (which is necessary for rear-wheel drive) alone is likely to save 30kg, while greater use of aluminium in the body will cut more kilos, improving handling and economy. To distance the 1 Series from the MINI, we expect BMW to tune the chassis on standard cars more for comfort than ‘go-kart handling’.

4x4 BMW M1 super hatch in the pipeline?

Using the UKL1 platform allows BMW to employ its new modular family of turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder and 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines – several have already debuted in the new MINI. Expect the most efficient three-cylinder diesel to return well over 70mpg and emit less than 100g/km of CO2. Topping the range could be a four-wheel-drive M1 hatch, using a 2.0-litre petrol twin-turbo (possibly with an e-boost system to spin up the smaller turbo instantly) with around 360bhp – enough to eclipse Mercedes’ 355bhp A45 AMG. 


As well as the three and five-door, a Mercedes CLA-rivalling 1 Series saloon is expected, plus replacements for the 2 Series coupe and Convertible. At launch in 2018, the 1 Series will not only rival all-new versions of the A-Class and A3, but also the Infiniti Q30 and the posh replacement for Volvo’s V40, due in 2016.

FIAT to launch improved Abarth 500, after successful Gumball 3000.

New colours, greater technology and a host of other changes feature in the latest range of Abarth 500 cars for 2014/15.
The new range is launched this week in the wake of the hugely successful partnership of the Gumball 3000 supercar event, which visited Edinburgh and London recently as part of an international tour.
The endurance road trip featured some of the world’s most exotic supercars, drawing huge crowds to both UK city centres. But many of the loudest cheers were reserved for the fleet of Abarths – the new 695 biposto, a 595 Competizione, 595 Turismo and 595 50th Anniversario – taking part in the event.
It was the first time British crowds had seen the 190hp biposto on the road. The “most Abarth of all Abarths” has a top speed of 143mph and accelerates from 0-62mph in just 5.9 seconds. It features a special “Grey Performance” paint colour, front, rear and roof spoilers, a Brembo braking system and can be specified with options such as a “Dog Ring” gearbox, lightweight aluminium bonnet, carbon fibre detailing and 4-point racing seatbelts.

The 595 Turismo is powered by a 160hp version of Abarth’s 1.4-litre turbocharged T-Jet engine and gets leather sports seats, 17-inch 10-spoke diamond cut alloy wheels. A similar engine powers the 595 Competitizione, which features a dual mode ‘Record Monza’ exhaust system, perforated front and rear disc brakes and aluminium pedal kit and footrest.
With only 299 to be produced, the Abarth 595 50th Anniversario (Anniversary Edition) has a 180hp, 1.4-litre turbocharged T-Jet engine, and features an Abarth Competizione gearbox, 305mm floating disc brakes from Brembo, the ‘Record Monza’  exhaust and 17-inch alloy wheels.
A total of 17 body colours are now available across the new range in solid, metallic, tri-coat and bi-colour finishes. New hues include Cordolo Red tri-coat metallic, Circuit Grey/ Legends Blue bi-colour, Rally Beige, and Trofeo Grey.
Inside, the entire range receives a new instrument panel with 7-inch digital display and TFT (Thin Film Transistor) technology. The backlit, multi-purpose display has two modes: ‘normal’ for information such as fuel consumption and headlight alignment, and ‘sport’ which shows performance data such as longitudinal/lateral acceleration (G-meter).
“Last weekend’s Gumball 3000 event was the perfect platform at which to announce, and display, our new range of Abarth cars,” says Gerry Southerington, head of brand, Abarth UK.
“Customers and fans alike were able to see some of the changes we have made to the range, helping them to better understand how we are giving our drivers much more opportunity to customise and optimise their new car to create the Abarth that they really want to own.”
The Abarth 500 range starts at £14,560 (OTR) for the 1.4 T-Jet 135hp (manual), rising to £32,990 (OTR) for the 695 biposto 1.4 T-Jet 190hp.

Rolls Royce owner to raise £200k for children charity through the Gumball 3000.

A Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupé stopped off in Edinburgh on Sunday 8 June as part of an epic 3,000 mile journey from Miami to Ibiza that promises to raise a six-figure sum for charity.
Rolls-Royce owner, Garreth Wood, founder of the Edinburgh-based Speratus Group, his wife Nicola and school friend William Rhind are taking part in the Gumball 3000 Rally, a star-studded event that sees an array of the world’s most exotic, luxurious and often outlandishly decorated cars cover remarkable distances in just seven days.
Mr and Mrs Wood have taken the opportunity to raise vital funds and awareness for ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’, a charity that has granted the wishes of over 14,500 children suffering from life threatening illnesses since it was founded in 1990.

Throughout their journey they will perform 50 Random Acts of Kindness with Garreth’s company promising to donate £2,000 for every act, the Gumball Foundation will then match the money raised. Every penny of the £200,000 is committed to sending a group of children and their helpers on a journey to Lapland to meet Father Christmas.
In preparation for the rally, the couple have commissioned a specialist wrapping company to decorate the car in a red chrome and black velvet finish complete with a Scottish flag motif on the boot.
“It’s a great honour to support ‘When you wish upon a Star’. This trip to Lapland promises to create magical memories for children and families dealing with life threatening illnesses,” said Garreth Wood, owner of the ‘Velvet Phantom’. “This journey presents an incredible opportunity to raise vital funds for such a worthy cause. It’s also important to raise awareness; this is why we chose a temporary wrap for the car that is sure to wow the crowds wherever we go! We are incredibly grateful to the Gumball Foundation for agreeing to match our donation allowing us to double the number of children we can take to Lapland at the end of the year.”

Kia to launch all new SOUL EV in Europe, the first Zero Emmisions car outside of Korea.

Kia Motors has begun volume production of its new all-electric Kia Soul EV for export sales.  A landmark in Kia’s history, the zero-emissions Soul EV is Kia’s first electric vehicle to be marketed by the company outside Korea.
The first vehicles off the production line are destined for select European countries and are scheduled to go on sale across the continent during the second half of the year. The Soul EV is manufactured at Kia’s Gwangju facility in Korea, where annual output of the electric car is initially planned to reach 5,000 units.
“Now that production of export models has begun, the new Soul EV is truly at the forefront of Kia’s ‘Clean Mobility’ program, providing environmentally-friendly transport to our customers around the world,” commented Thomas Oh, Executive Vice President and COO, Kia Motors Corporation.

“Although it is Kia’s first globally-sold all-electric vehicle, the Soul EV is our second-generation battery electric vehicle and benefits significantly from our in-depth experience gained from development of the Ray EV and proven daily operations of the Ray EV fleet in Korea for the past three years.”
Embodying the iconic design language of the second-generation Kia Soul, that went on sale in the UK in April, the Soul EV is a uniquely designed battery electric vehicle perfectly suited for city commuters thanks to its class-leading drive range, a spacious cabin and generous cargo area.
Featuring a high-capacity 192-cell 27 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack, 212 km of the Soul EV’s drive range is now certified for Europe. Key enablers for the Soul EV’s outstanding drive range are industry-leading 200 Wh/kg cell energy density and a number of state-of-the art energy-saving features such as the new heat pump, smart air intake control system and a new individual ventilation system that ensure maximum driving range without losing energy for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC).  The Soul EV also employs regenerative braking to capture and recycle into the battery the kinetic energy generated while the car is coasting and braking.
Power comes from an 81.4 kW (110 ps) electric motor, producing a generous and instantly available 285 Nm (29 kg/m) of torque, driving the front wheels via a single speed constant ratio gear reduction unit.
Ensuring that the Soul EV retains all the ‘fun-to-drive’ character of the regular Soul, rapid acceleration to 100 kph (62 mph) is predicted to take 11.2 seconds, while top speed is in the region of 145 kph (90 mph).
The battery pack is mounted beneath the cabin, ensuring a low centre of gravity and contributing to the car’s accomplished ride, handling and refinement.
Charging is accomplished by plugging the Soul EV into any standard household electricity supply. Recharging times are up to five hours for a fully depleted battery using a 6.6 kW AC slow charger. An 80 per cent charge can be achieved in as little as 25 minutes with a 100 kW charger (if available) or 33 minutes using a 50 kW DC charger.
The new Soul EV has achieved the world automotive industry’s first UL Environment Validation for containing 23,942 grams of bio-based plastic and 10 per cent bio-based organic carbon content. Soul EV’s recyclable interior materials include Bio Plastic, Bio Foam, Bio Fabric and Bio PET Felt, together with low volatile organic compounds and newly developed antibacterial materials and paint.

Citroen to launch two new cars to the UK at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (GFoS)

At 15 Model Year, SE becomes the new entry point to the Discovery range. With this change, customers receive additional features as standard compared to the previous entry point GS specification. These include; cruise control, front fog lights, automatic headlamps and wipers, headlamp power wash, auto dimming rear view mirror and interior foot well and door puddle lamps.
SE Tech replaces the previous XS specification and adds Xenon headlights with LED signature as standard whilst HSE variants now feature 20” alloy wheels as standard rather than the previous 19”. Customers can also bring that added touch of luxury to their Discovery of choice with the option of adding the Grand Black Lacquer wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel from the XXV Special Edition anniversary model.
Changes to the exterior colour palette will see three new colours introduced; Aruba, Kaikora Stone and Montalcino Red replace Luxor, Ipanema Sand and Nara Bronze.
Cutting edge in-car connectivity
Land Rover InControlTM Apps is introduced as a customer option to complement the Discovery’s existing infotainment system and provide the ultimate for in-car connectivity. It brings the convenience, familiarity and original look and feel of compatible smartphone apps into the owner’s vehicle, which are displayed and controlled from the vehicle’s touchscreen.
This technology has been developed with some of the world’s leading smartphone app developers and is compatible with the latest Apple and Android smartphones. Optimised for in-car use, Land Rover InControlTMApps offers services such as satellite-navigation, media streaming, internet radio and location services, whilst also providing easy access to the connected smartphone’s contacts, calendar and music library.
Compatible apps include Stitcher, Glympse, Sygic, Parkopedia, Hotelseeker, Cityseeker, Eventseeker, News on Board and MobileDay, the latter enabling one-touch access to voice conference calls without the need to dial a number. The range of apps is being continually expanded, with new content available every time the apps update.
The owner must download Land Rover InControlTM Apps to their smartphone from either the Apple App Store (for iPhone 5 and later) or Google Play (for Android version 4.0 and later). Once the phone is connected to the vehicle’s dedicated USB port, the owner simply taps the InControl Apps icon on the central touchscreen and selects the desired vehicle-compatible app from the menu.

Maserati  sales figures in May show yet another confident month in the UK with 113 new registrations – a 223% increase year on year compared to May 2013 figures.
Total Maserati sales in Great Britain for the year so far amount to 430 units, representing a significant increase of 209% over 2013 figures. In first place is Maserati’s homeland, Italy, where total sales this year have increased by 632% compared to this time last year – the biggest sales volume increase seen in any European market.
Other flourishing markets include Germany, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands. In total 2,326 new Maseratis have been registered in Europe during the first five months of 2014; which is a 391% increase on 2013.  
These healthy numbers are thanks in part to the recent introduction of a Diesel engine to the Maserati range for the first time. Both the marque’s new executive saloon model, the Ghibli, and the luxury flagship model, the Quattroporte, are now available with Diesel powertrains.

Spied for the first time in its own skin, the nameless Bentley SUV nears production

We’re already well versed with Bentley’s forthcoming SUV thanks to a barrage of teaser images and videos, but for the first time we’ve spied the luxury SUV testing in its own production body. The spy images reveal the showroom model will distance itself by some margin over the EXP 9 concept that previewed it back in 2011.
In comparison to the concept we can see the general shape and structure of the SUV will remain intact but a Continental GT face has been crafted onto the front end. Look closely at the images and you’ll see Bentley has added some rather bulbous cladding over the front and rear wheel arches in an attempt to hide its more curvaceous styling. The concept shown in Geneva in 2011 was designed with a boxier stance, featuring squared off panels and a more rigid front end.

Viewed in profile and from the rear there is more of a resemblance towards the concept than there is round the front. The steeply raked rear windscreen and two oval exhausts give a more athletic look, while the number plate and rear lamp positioning seems unchanged from the concept.
Not only is the nameless 4x4 the first SUV from Bentley it will also be the first model from the marque to feature a petrol-electric powertrain. The engine fitted beneath this particular test mule is the familiar 6.0-litre W12 engine but it’s expected the brand will also offer the more frugal 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, too.


When launched in 2016 the Bentley SUV will cost in excess of £140,000 with prices likely to rise over £200,000 for the range topping models. Even before its official reveal the popularity of the SUV is evident, with Bentley already raking up over 2,000 pre-orders. Although Bentley may initially have the luxury SUV market to itself, shortly after its launch Rolls Royce is expected to show its hand with its yet to be named SUV.

GSX-R600 Tyco Suzuki replica now available, for a limited run only.

Suzuki GB has announced a limited run of GSX-R600 Tyco Suzuki replicas, after Guy Martin and WIlliam Dunlop took the iconic supersport machine to podium placed finishes at this year's North West 200 and Isle of Man TT.
The machines have been put together with the help of TAS Racing, who have taken the GSX-R600 to two British Supersport Championship titles as well as a number of podiums and race wins on the roads too, including victory at this year's Spring Cup at Oliver's Mount in the hands of Martin.
The GSX-R600 comes with a Tyco Suzuki replica paint scheme - put together by the same people responsible for the team's race bike livery - a Yoshimura R11 silencer, Genuine Suzuki double-bubble race screen, pillion seat cowl, as well as a Suzuki paddock stand.
Suzuki GB General Manager Paul de Lusignan said, "After a strong start to the year for the team and the GSX-R600, with Guy Martin winning the supersport race at the Ian Watson Spring Cup and both riders taking podiums on the bike at the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT, we're delighted to announce a limited run of these Tyco Suzuki replicas. These bikes offer a great chance to get your hands on a machine prepped by the same team that prepare bikes for Martin and Dunlop, and also adds that little extra to the already highly-regarded GSX-R600."
The GSX-R600 Tyco Suzuki replica comes with an RRP of £10,249, and is included in the current £750 Cash Deposit Paid campaign. They will be arriving in dealerships from mid-July.

The Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations team of expert designers and engineers will be led by Paul Newsome, Director of Special Vehicle Operations, recently recruited from Williams Advanced Engineering. Working on present and future vehicle portfolios, the team will create halo vehicles ranging from high luxury to extreme performance.
To support the delivery of these products, Jaguar Land Rover will be investing in a new dedicated Technical Centre, located in the West Midlands area of the UK, close to the current headquarters.
A team of 150 Jaguar Land Rover specialists will be based at the new Technical Centre. Its unique facilities will feature a customer commissioning suite for bespoke services and premium vehicle personalisation, Formula 1-inspired flexible workshops and a fully automated paint facility.
In addition, a new heritage vehicle workshop will be created at Browns Lane in Coventry, the spiritual home of Jaguar. This will be the production site for the six recently announced lightweight E-Type recreations and will also allow the newly formed heritage team to expand its servicing and restoration services. The newly expanded heritage business will be open from August 1st.

New Mercedes Traveliner to adds to Citan family, and its a full seven seater too.

A new extra-long Traveliner variant of the Mercedes-Benz Citan urban delivery van will soon be available to order, with a total of seven seats, offering outstanding flexibility.
The new variant is ideal for alternating between carrying crew and cargo in commercial applications, use as a taxi, or for a mix of professional and private use: as a highly flexible Traveliner with up to seven seats, the Citan is able to cater to a multitude of different requirements.
Based on the extra-long version of the Citan (length 4,705 mm), with a permissible gross vehicle weight of 2.2 t, the extra-long Traveliner offers a new third seat row, consisting of two individual seats.

These are independently adjustable fore-and-aft by 130 mm, and can be individually folded down, or removed as required. They can be easily accessed once the seats in the middle row have been folded down. Passengers in the rear row have additional stowage facilities in the side wall panels.
Depending on the position of the individual seats, the load space behind them will take between 300 and 400 litres of luggage. Removing the seats in the third row increases the cargo capacity of Citan to 2,200 l. And if the middle row of three seats is folded down too, the load space is enlarged again to 3,500 l.
The Citan is highly practical, as highlighted by the standard equipment for the extra-long Traveliner, which includes a flexible cover for the load compartment, as well as load-securing rings in the floor for securing the cargo when the seats are folded down or removed.
Available to order from August 2014 in the UK, the new model variant offers a choice of two engine output ratings, as either the Citan 109 CDI (90 hp) or the Citan 111 CDI (110 hp), with prices starting from £17,810 plus VAT.
The new vehicle will be on display at Mercedes-Benz VanExperience LIVE, an invite-only van operator event taking place during the next two weeks for more than 1,800 van operators. To book a place at VanExperience LIVE, operators can contact their local Mercedes-Benz Van dealer.
